Title: WFY Ranks in Mediabase Taking Off Chart
Description: Adult contemporary radio spinning WFY
Sk8888 - January 10, 2008 02:00 AM (GMT)
If you had told me last March that ten months later we would be seeing WFY climbing a MediaBase Chart, let alone, in the "Taking Off" Chart, I wouldn't have believed you. It just goes to show you that each format moves at its own pace.
I've posted the Top 50 Adult Contemporary stations spinning WFY in the Requesting Forum, but take a look at this "Taking Off" data from MediaBase for the Adult Contemporary radio stations:
Jump! Menu | 7-Day Chart | Taking Off

That's unbelievable skates! I hope it translates into SALES! I want PLATINUM! tee hee
thats okay, GOLD is great too!!!
ohioguy45780 - January 10, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
It's another format, with a high A.I., if I recall...should help the album sustain some sales.

W O W :cheerleaders:
I hope that this may translate into a few album sales during the normally slow season.
eta: we all were thinking about sales :rotfl:
Sk8888 - January 10, 2008 02:26 AM (GMT)
OMG, that is so funny, all of you mentioned sales, and I was thinking the same thing. Here's hoping that the listeners of AC radio get hooked enough to buy the entire CD.
ohioguy45780 - January 10, 2008 02:33 AM (GMT)
well, after seeing what happened at RCA with Taylor and Kat, we do see sales are important.
nanassetta - January 10, 2008 02:41 AM (GMT)
Incredible! :elliottelliott:
luvthatelliott - January 10, 2008 02:42 AM (GMT)
This is great news. I've actually heard WFY all over the place today. Q94 played it early this morning. I heard it on Lite98 during my work day and it was also played on whatever radio staion was being played at my daughter's dance studio... YAY!
durden - January 10, 2008 02:46 AM (GMT)
I wonder if WFY's popularity in any way hurt the chances of One Word getting played? Because it is such a strong single, maybe stations just decided to stick with it and not move on to One Word?
In any case, this really just goes to show that radio has truly embraced Elliott in a way that few other AI alums have been. To be honest, I don't think we need to worry about future radio airplay. We just need the right single, the right promotions for it, and I'm sure that radio will respond.

WFY is doing great in this format!! It is being played a lot in my area, everytime I turn on the ac station, I hear it. :) *My percetion* is that as a fanbase we've been focused on supporting OW lately and haven't been as focused on WFY like we were a few months ago. Our focus has been on and the majority of our efforts have been put into the new single, so it is eyeopening to see this and realize WFY is still going very strong after all these months. Thanks sk8888 for posting this info. Can you explain a little more what it means though? And how high has WFY been on the charts in AC?
Taratova - January 10, 2008 05:09 AM (GMT)
Three formats increased play of WFY.. Top 40 is spinning WFY with the most spins, AC is close behind with HAC spinning almost 1000 spins a week but about half of the other two formats.. This is great that they are adding many spins of this song. It is showing me that this song is very well liked along with Fergie's Big Girls don"t Cry, Daughtry's Home , and also Plain White Tees, Hey There Delilah. Eliott"s WFY is in the same league as these top songs of 2007. The radio stations are giving these songs along with WFY many spins.
KittyloverforElliott - January 10, 2008 05:11 AM (GMT)
I am really impressed but not surprised. Thank you for sharing. I love WFY.
CathyEM - January 10, 2008 06:14 AM (GMT)
I tuned in to Casey Kasem's American Top 20 show (AC) last weekend and was delighted to hear him announce WFY as #5 for the week. He read a very glowing review of the CD right before he played the song.

So that's why he's been on the rise at Amazon lately! This week's sales should be better than last. The entire album really is more AC than Top 40 IMO, so maybe we'll finally see a word-of-mouth snowball effect among a certain type of listener.
ohioguy45780 - January 10, 2008 01:00 PM (GMT)
the AC format doesn't necessarily sell albums, though it can't hurt, and may have more of an impact on sustaining sales than we realize. It can create fan dedication and appeal beyond the teeney-bopper top 40 format. AC and HAC is the place for true vocal talent, and songs outside the rap/hiphop/hard rock/electronic world. (in short, the place for real music. LOL). Buble, Dion, Jones, Mayer, ect. all have nice "homes" established in this format.
I Love Elliott - January 10, 2008 01:59 PM (GMT)
If we go back to requesting WFY again, maybe we can get him to #1!! :number1:
While requesting WFY, I"m going to say....I like Elliotts "other" song, One Word, too.
Go ahead and lay the ground work for OW while I'm at it. :eyebrows:

Agreed. AC won't spike sales in individual weeks, but it will grow his fanbase in the long-term. Honestly, this is probably the most important thing--that he gain fans willing to stick with him for future CDs. Top40 sales are often huge but ephemeral, except for only the huge artists (Timberlake, Gwen Stefani, etc.)

Gold IS great, but Platinum would be PERFECTLY, POSITIVELY, PRECIOUS!!!
If anyone can do it..E can;) And how absolutely wonderful for him! I know I still hear WFY constantly on local stations. It just won't quit! The song new the E-train was behind it and it kept on saying "I think I can I think I can I think I can"..and it DID, and still it is chugging along strong;)

Quoted for emphasis. It is the creation of fans who stick with you your entire career that gives you longevity and a place amongst the superstars of music history.

Wow! That is fantastic!! I remember when we wondered if either one of those shows would spin WFY, and then we get a spin from both shows in one night!!

Thanks for the update. It is amazing how WFY just keeps plugging along.
wowhesgood - January 12, 2008 03:26 AM (GMT)
WFY is up there with some really pretty good songs. I remember listening to an interview last fall on a San Diego radio station and Elliott talked about how WFY is still so successful. I really wonder if that isn't why they aren't pushing OW yet.

The opened door to One Word could be requesting Wait For You and add a request for his new song.. let's hope!! :elliottelliott:

WFY was #5 again tonight on Casey Kasem's show on the top ten AC hits in America this week. He mentioned that Elliott dropped out of high school, got kicked out of Hebrew school for making fun of his teacher, and went on to earn a "Good Enough Degree."
