Rainy, over at moosak, just posted this article about the girl who auditioned tonight from Oregon

Everybody cheers for the people from their hometowns. It's natural. I was hoping to see some stand outs from Philly. Most of the really stand out singers came from far away to audition in Philly. That's ok. There's no rule against that. They didn't show many of the auditions of those who got through to Hollywood. I'm hoping there were some Philly area residents amongst them.
Of the local Philly area people who we saw last night, I liked the very first guy. I think his name is Joey? He had an inspirational story about loosing 200 pounds. I liked his personality and thought he sounded good. That's the kind of person who should be in the contest, a regular everyday person.
I also liked the good looking student from Dover, Delaware. I can't remember his name. Simon said the girls would like him. I thought he sounded and looked great. I didn't like his personality as much as the first guy.

same two for me, also. I REALLY liked the first guy more than anyone the rest of the night. I hope he does well.
Efan2 - January 16, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
I liked those 2 as well, along with the young woman with the hadicapped child and the last girl, the nanny to twins. Of course we had to sit through the usual parade of weirdos. I know that is supposed to be entertaining, but I'm just saying.........

I also liked the young woman with the handicapped child and the nanny. Both ladies were interesting.
I didn't see the first guy...the second guy...well I kind of liked him, he seemed a little overconfident though.
Some of those contestants were kinda scarey...What was up with that one guy singing a stalker song and moving closer to Paula?? And her laughing about it? Kinda icky and wierd...

Wasn't his name Chris? Not only the girls will like him, this "older" woman liked him just fine.....
Berkana - January 16, 2008 06:02 PM (GMT)
I want to see more good auditions then bad auditions. Although that one guy in the yellow jacket with the really deep voice was hilarious.
I liked the first and second guy, as well. The mother with the little girl was good. Not so sure I liked the last girl Brooke, but I'll see how she does in hollywood week; if they show her of course.

Thanks HW. I was inspired by yours. I think it's great that you're going to go see her next month. Take pictures if she's up for it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=va6wnH1POQQHere's Chris Watson, the good looking guy from Delaware
itslate - January 16, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
LOL, I've just been all through this talking to my sister in law on the phone.
I also liked those two guys... thought the NEW Chris was a real cutie too. He'll go over big if he can hit more than just those few notes from the song he picked. I also liked Junot Joyner.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bu0nKDB95nUMy fav female was the one with the child with Rhetts syndrome.
Most did say they were from a music background though. Making a living from it.
eta: Aviva I too was hoping to see someone from Philly. Thought maybe they'd grab someone from South Philly to sing Frank Sinatra :).
AvivaDove - January 16, 2008 07:45 PM (GMT)
Itslate,
I liked Junot too, even though he's not from the Philly area lol.
Even if a Philly area person doesn't make it far, I won't feel too bad. Bianca Ryan, winner of the first season of Simon's other show, America's Got Talent, is from Philadelphia. I love her.
ElliottisTrueBlue - January 16, 2008 08:26 PM (GMT)
I think the highlight of my evening was the "No Sex Aloud" dude :rotfl:

haha, that was pretty good, but the stalker song was even better ;)
Hmmm - January 16, 2008 11:25 PM (GMT)
That stalker song was so creepy it had me backing away from the TV!
I started watching late and when I turned it on everyone was hugging a large african-american woman and then walked her out to tell her family that she wasn't going thru. Was there a backstory or something?

aawwww....her name was Temptress. She was 16 and was auditioning for herself, as well as for her mother who is very ill. She didn't do terribly, but not good enough to make it. She started to cry. Her lip was trembling. She was genuinely very upset. They were very nice to her.

lolllllllllllllll...I don't know what was worse, Paul singing Wait for You...or Simon!!!
;)
chloewannabee - January 17, 2008 01:21 AM (GMT)
I wish someone with half a voice would have used WFY.

Lol..........First time I've ever heard Simon singing..... don't think he should give up his day job.
Wasn't this the first song from a male idol? (Have heard a couple of Carrie, Kelly and JHudson references, but don't recall anyone singing Daughtry, Ruben, Clay, etc....
I bet the judges were wishing it was Elliott there again... and hearing someone sing Elliott's hit had to make them feel good. Even though the contestant wasn't a good singer, at least he was a good guy.
Wonder how many other folks will try to emulate Elliott during the try-outs?
Rutti - January 17, 2008 01:26 AM (GMT)
What I thought was neat was that he said he was going to sing Elliott Yamin's Wait For You instead of just Wait For You. Hey, it's a mention on national TV, right?

Absolutely!
harleywoman - January 17, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
He may not have been a good singer but the whole thing was great, the judges reactions, etc. They were so nice and respectfuly to him. I loved it. AmandaRhea was watching, she texted me right after.
chloewannabee - January 17, 2008 02:00 AM (GMT)
they just showed some guy with 18 pounds of eye makeup on, and said something about Daughtry, i don't know if they were referring to a song of his or the makeup!
concertcris - January 17, 2008 02:27 AM (GMT)
:discuss: Hi everyone. I have read all your posts and found them to be quite interesting. Not sure if any of you know this but I am an avid watcher of American Idol in spite of some of the treatment and thoughts that have sprouted out of the judges mouths.
Anyway, thought I would give you the names of some of the people mentioned in case you start following the show as closely as I am. I only know them quite well because I do re-caps on other sites about the show.
Angela Martin is the woman whose child has Retts Syndrome and I personally thought she was great.
Joey Cantalano is the man who lost all the weight and I also liked him alot.
Melanie Nyema is the girl who sang back-up for Taylor Hicks on his tour. I think she might do quite well but felt she was very nervous on this first audition and of course good old Simon was not interested at all but luckily Randy and Paula put her through.
Junot Joyner has a great voice and I was glad to see him make it. Loved his confidence when he asked if his voice was good enough to go to Hollywood.
Another favorite of mine is Beth Stalker who sang Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered. Very pleasant tone to her voice.
Brooke White is the nanny with the adorable personality who has never seen an R-rated movie. She looks like a fun person.
Chris Watson is the young guy from Delaware who sang Follow Me. He is a real cutie with an interesting voice.
The down side is Kristy Lee Cook who sang Amazing Grace. Good voice but she is one of the professionals who did have a contract with Arista/Nashville. Notice how none of that was mentioned?
In case some of you missed the show and are interested you can see the people mentioned above on Youtube.
:music: Looks like some great contestants so far and hope all do well in Hollywood. Thanks for reading this.
rooney - January 17, 2008 02:39 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the recap. It's a big help!
ithad2bu - January 17, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
I predict that Melanie (Taylor's backup singer) will have a tough go of it just because of her connection with Taylor unfortunately. I thought she was good, but it was pretty clear that Simon didn't want anything to do with her once she mentioned Taylor. He really seems to despise him.
Sad.
Linda4Elliott - January 17, 2008 03:30 AM (GMT)
I think my favorite audition tonight, was the black girl with short blonde hair. I am drawing a blank right now as to what she sang. It was very hectic at my house tonight. All three of the judges liked her. Anyone remember?
eta: I'm answering my own question!! lol I found this on Jeanne;s Idol Stalker blog

| Pia "Zpia" Easley is a model and a musician and a background singer. I love her look and style! She sang "I’ve Got to Use My Imagination" by Gladys Knight. Simon thought it was a "very good audition" and that he likes her and that she is interesting. He also said she doesn’t have the attitude of a background singer, likes her confidence and just generally likes her a lot. Three yeses means Pia is through to Hollywood. |

This one??
Pia Easley is a model, singer and many other things. She has the soul of Nadia Turner, and she certainly could fit into the Idol equation.

Chris Watson
Junot
Jose Catalano (sp?)
Beth Stalker
Joey ?
Jonathan Baines (I like him. :awe: :toocute: )
The girl who imitated Britney.
Bruce
Colton Swon
Well, I really didn't get to list down the names of the people I liked in Dallas. I was busy when it was aired.
DoxieChickLuvsE - January 17, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
I loved Renaldo Lupez (I think that was his name) and his catchy tune of "I am your brother"...
It will be out on CD in three weeks I am sure. LOL
