I don't understand how they often show us a contestant at home before their audition. It's not always the good singers who we see at home or at work before they go in to see the judges. Do they interview them days before the audition? If it's good singer who gets through, do they tape it afterwards? With that angry Grace Slick lady from Philly, I imagine they filmed her house before her audition. Doing that of course would get a person's hopes up and make them angry afterwards.

Do they know all of these many people before they ever get to to the audition venue?

I think with some of the contestants that they want to push, they film something afterwards because these auditions took place in the summer. As for the locals like the angry Grace Slick girl, my guess is that they also have camera crews ready at a moments notice to go film something if they think it will get ratings. (usually the ones who are a little unbalanced) Just my guesses of course :)

I would think they film them at their home after the auditions (whether or not they make it to Hollywood)... It just makes most sense to me; I don't think there's that much time in between when they audition for the very first time to when they see the judges.

All I know is that they film a bunch of those, and don't show them all... Maybe they film everybody who makes it to the judges at their home, and then pick the most interesting? :dunno:

I've seen Grace Slick the next day on a FOX show - she said they went to her apartment and filmed the clip days before the audition. Because of that she had high hopes and of course we all know what happened - she just lost it.
I don't know why they picked her or how they knew days before, that she would audition.

Blossom, I'm thinking they filmed her at home after a previous audition. They passed her through at that audition, filmed her at home, then she auditioned before Randy, Paula and Simon.

Grace Slick was the Jefferson Airplane frontwoman. The crazy chick imitated her on Idol though.
