Title: Heath Ledger

wowhesgood - January 22, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
OMG, just saw a news headline he was found dead in a Manhattan apartment. I've loved some of the work he has done.

Linda4Elliott - January 22, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
WHAT?????? really? Very, very sad.......

rooney - January 22, 2008 10:13 PM (GMT)
Oh, that's so sad! I liked him too. I remember him as Mel Gibson's son in 'The Patriot.'

wowhesgood - January 22, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
The news is reporting it is suspected to be drug related. Sad and just have to say I hate drugs!

Linda4Elliott - January 22, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
I listenend to the news for just a bit, and they said he was surrounded by pills :(

lindagt - January 22, 2008 10:43 PM (GMT)
They are saying it might be suicide too - that would just be too sad - such a young talented guy. Depression is as debilitating as drug addiction - whatever it was, it's just too sad. He had a young daughter.

terriberriez - January 22, 2008 10:50 PM (GMT)
I just read about this. :( This is really sad. Although I never saw Brokeback Mountain, I remember Ledgers' earlier movies like A Knights Tale

SoulMusicRocks - January 22, 2008 10:57 PM (GMT)
That is horrible. It's really sad when we lose great talent to such tragedy. I wonder what actually happened......

harleywoman - January 23, 2008 12:17 AM (GMT)
Man, this is really sad. Didn't he just go through a break up?

yellin4yamin - January 23, 2008 12:22 AM (GMT)
so so sad

ElliottCat101 - January 23, 2008 03:03 AM (GMT)
I was shocked when I heard this. I never expected him to OD, whether accidental or not. It's very sad...

nymphadora - January 23, 2008 03:08 AM (GMT)
I just read the bulletin one of my Myspace friends posted about this. I still can't believe it. Shocking! May Heath rest in peace.

ohioguy45780 - January 23, 2008 03:56 AM (GMT)
may have been an *accidental* drug overdose; looks like no intent to take his own life. News reports he was on Ambien (which is a killer) and other prescribed meds.

Sad, considering his daughter.

And his parents had to find out about his death from the media!

Rick1965 - January 23, 2008 05:28 AM (GMT)
How tragic...he was such a gifted actor. He was so powerful in Brokeback Mountain...and he had very little dialog! And he leaves behind a little daughter. Very sad news indeed.

RIP, Heath.

RIP Heath Ledger.

In my humble opinion, his performance in Brokeback Mountain remains to be one of the greatest performances of the last ten years of cinema. He was mind-numbinlgy great in that one. Just thinking about certain scenes (the jacket scene, the alley scene) gives me goosebumps. What a loss for the acting community.

brwneydgirl - January 23, 2008 07:02 AM (GMT)
:( I gasped this afternoon when I saw this on tv. I could not believe it. Such a tragic loss. I loved his work in Brokeback Mountain and in 10 Things I Hate About You. He also seemed very humble, kind, and sort of shy in interviews that I saw. Whether it was an accident or intentional, it is extremely sad. :(

et4elliott - January 23, 2008 02:15 PM (GMT)
I was shocked when I heard this news. Although I never saw any of his movies, it is still sad to lose someone at such a young age, no matter how or why. I feel sorry for those he left behind (especially his daughter). I think it also goes to show that the celebrities you think have such a great life - money, success, fame, etc. does not equal happiness. It's truly sad.

yamignonette - January 23, 2008 03:37 PM (GMT)
I have loved Heath Ledger since I saw him on 10 Things I Hate About You. I saw him in many of his other movies and really admired his work. When I read the news today, I was really, truly, deeply sad at his passing away. :(

I was also a fan of his work, and it's such a sad loss. I read somewhere that he touched places of loneliness in the heart, and that's how he touched me with his acting especially in Brokeback Mtn. He was definitely one of the most interesting actors out there. I'll miss the performances that he could given us.

dgolden20 - January 23, 2008 08:46 PM (GMT)
I'm really shook up about this. It's so sad that this had to happen to such a good, humble person. He was so down to earth and it's just unfair. He had a two year old daughter, such a bright future. I'm really sad and there's nothing I can do. I hope he is in a better place and that he will live on forever in his movies and his lovely daughter. RIP HEATH ... YOU'LL BE FOREVER LOVED

I was and still am obsessed with Brokeback Mountain. I have seen it about 20 times. I cried when it didn't get the Oscar. So needless to say, I am so sad about this.

Of course DH doesn't understand because he never has felt "close" to a star. It is true, I didn't know him personally - but he touched me through his acting in Brokeback. I sobbed. DH bought me an autographed picture for the movie. It is in a frame right by my computer.

Since Heath and Jake come in second behind my obsession with Elliott, it has made me thin the dreaded "What if....?" Not just with Elliott, buy with any of us anytime. Life is so short.

RIP Heath. We will all miss you so much. You have touched so many lives and inspired so many people through your work (esp Brokeback). Prayers for Michelle, Matilda and Heath's family.

I was devastated & shocked to read about Heaths' passing on the net. My internet has been down for over a week & when it came back up today, Heaths' passing was the first thing I saw. I still am in disbelief & know his family, friends & loved ones have to be numb with shock & grief. My heart breaks for little Matilda, who will only be able to know her father & remember him through movies, pictures & memories of others. Absolutely heartbreaking.

This is so terribly sad. His little daughter is only 2. I had read that since filming his last movie he had had trouble sleeping b/c the movie was very disturbing to him.
He was on prescribed sleeping pills, so perhaps it just was a very tragic accidental overdose. I would hate to think he took his own life.

Saw him in the Patriot and Brokeback Mtn. His performance in the latter was amazing. It was a magnificent, gut-wrenching performance. I resisted seeing it for a long time but I am so glad I did b/c his performance and the movie as a whole moved me terribly.
RIP

I agree 100%. I've only seen Brokeback Mountain once, and have not been able to watch it again. It's because I was so upset with how it ended.....it was heartbreaking. The acting was incredible. Jake and Heath took a big risk as Hollywood leading men to take on a movie like that. But honestly, it made me respect them both as actors and people all the more because it showed they are not afraid to move outside of their comfort zone. This movie helped to dispel stereotypes in a mainstream way and with A list stars too. Still, the subject matter-- violence and prejudice towards people who do not fit the expected social roles is one that will always resonate with people. I think we all wish we lived in a more tolerant, peaceful, and loving world that embraces the diversity of humanity. This movie taps into basic human emotions so powerfully, and that's probably why it did so well with people of many beliefs and walks of life.

On a side note, I heard some audio of the new Batman movie. Heath sounds scary as the Joker. It is definitely a debarkation from Jack Nicholson's more sarcastically funny version of the Joker back in the first movie. He sounds like he portrays him as more psychotic and ruthless. It will be odd to see the new Batman whenever it is released. IDK, it's just so sad that this happened. We never know what people are going through medically, socially, or emotionally.

RIP HEATH :brokenheart:

I was deeply saddened by the news of Heath's death. He was a gifted actor and a well loved human being. The people who worked with him have said wonderful things about him. He leaves behind an incredible body of work for a man of 28 years old.

When I saw him in "Ten Things I Hate About You" all those years ago, who could have guessed that such great work was to follow.

I'm glad that the early speculations have been proven untrue. We will soon find out what really happened. He had just bought food at a local market, he had a massage scheduled and he had made plans to meet a friend for lunch or dinner the next day. He had plans. What happened must have been a tragic accident.

Pneumonia, combined with sleep medication could have caused breathing problems and he could not wake up in time. Who knows.

He will be missed.

If anyone wants to add a brick to Heath Ledger's "virtual" building on this site, here is the link: http://www.topdogcity.com/heathledger2.htm
I thought it would be nice if people posted some nice memorial messages there. You can add one per email address per month.
