Title: When Do We Find Out...
FrankS67 - January 24, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
...if Elliott will indeed perform at the Grammys?
I may be way out of the loop, but wasn't there some scuttlebutt back in the autumn that this year's Grammys would feature a tribute to Donny Hathaway?
...and that perhaps Elliott would garner an opportunity to sing (perhaps ASFY) during that tribute?
I know some folks have mentioned his USO tour, but won't he be in LA on the 12th for that?
The Grammys are the 10th.
I could really care less at this point whether he got a nomination or not...for him to SING during the ceremony, particularly during a tribute like this, would garner him more long-term rewards than a trophy, if you ask me-

FrankS , That certainly would be great for Elliott to get that kind of exposure. I didn't hear anything but you never know!! :elliottcap:
harleywoman - January 24, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
My gut tells me he's not performing. He has never mentioned it in any interviews, not even that there may be a possibility. Also there was an article about the Grammnys in which Jeff Rahham was quoted, he didn't say anything either.
There is something about the Grammys on his myspace so my thinking is if he were going to perform, it would be there as well by now. Here's what's on his myspace:
Feb 7 2008 11:00A
Grammy Radio Forum @ Staples Center Los Angeles
Actually, at this point there may not be a Grammys show which would be a bummer.
FrankS67 - January 24, 2008 06:21 PM (GMT)
Actually, the Writers Guild decided NOT to picket the Grammys, so the show should go on as planned, with all the attendant star wattage-
AND-
It very well may be that Elliott has not been allowed to divulge anything as yet-
There was an article in the NY Post, I believe, about a rumored Grammy Night duet between Beyonce and Tina Turner, but the official NARAS response was that they had not yet released the names of any performers, so any speculation was simply that... speculation.
So-
I guess my initial question is now amended to state:
Does anyone know WHEN the Grammy performers will be announced by NARAS (the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences)?

We could always be pleasantly surprised - but I agree. Apparently he's been asked to participate in this forum, and that's good news, but it would be a big, big surprise to me if he performed. I kind of hope he walks the red carpet, now that the event will not be picketed.
jamie50 - January 24, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
It'll be a drag to see the Grammys without him but I doubt he'll perform.
The music business is in free fall and the Grammys will give artists a needed boost. There's no way the major labels will allow an Indie artist to take one of those valuable performing spots. Maybe, he'll get to walk the red carpet but that's how I see it. Maybe he could be a presenter (keeping fingers crossed).
nanassetta - January 24, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
I found this article among many. I haven't seen mention of any performers.....yet.

According to Pulse Music Board, the only confirmed performers are Beyonce and Tina Turner who will doing a duet. I don't think they could make any announcements until they knew the event wouldn't have pickets. I'm sure they'll put out more names soon.

Your right Jaime,
The only way it might happen is if Sony uses some of its clout. But it seems like so many of the recent lay-offs were at Sony music labels, (BMG in particular.)
But I like the idea of floating a Plan "E" if someone should get sick or bail, that Elliott would be on a short list to get contacted to perform in their place.
Jarvs - January 24, 2008 08:23 PM (GMT)
Janet Jackson will also perform at the grammy's.

I had just been thinking that it would be cool if someday Elliott could perform with Tina Turner - would they rock the house or what!
jamie50 - January 24, 2008 08:48 PM (GMT)
More Grammy news:
"Today comes word that last year's best new artist winner and "American Idol" vet Carrie Underwood will perform.
Also announced today was a "special gospel segment" that will feature Aretha Franklin, as expected, as well as Mary J. Blige, the Clark Sisters, Israel and New Breed and Trin-i-tee 5:7. In a separate and very-special Grammy pairing, Rihanna will perform with reunited '80s funk/R&B act the Time.
But what's sure to be the most curious pairing of the evening is the Foo Fighters with Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones and an orchestra comprised of three contest-winning fans. Jones will be arranging the orchestral accompaniment to the Foo Fighters' "The Pretender," and according to a press release, "taking up the baton as special guest conductor."
I like Carrie but I'm getting a little sick of seeing her on every awards show.

Yeah, , I'm not looking for E to perform, but the hope of catching a glimpse of him will keep me watching! I don't think he has much hope of being a presenter, performer or anything else. He's an Indie artist and a successful one at that, so the PTB are going to try to shut him out. They just hate it when someone makes it without them and gets a decent paycheck for their efforts!
Sunny - January 24, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
I recently heard (or read somewhere) that because of the writers' strike that they will have more acts performing at the Grammy's this year.
Linda4Elliott - January 24, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
sorry, but not Carrie Underwood again......I really have nothing against her, but I am getting sick to death of her. Over exposure is gonna hurt her. Not to mention, she is un-inspiring as a singer. I prefered Bo Bice to her.
I hope to see Elliott on the red carpet. That would be great. I am afraid I am of the same opinion as those who think he won't perform because he is indie, BUT I would not be surprised to hear that the majors are making offers after his Hickory contract expires.
realitymom - January 24, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
I love Carrie's music (especially her newest single), but I also am tiring of seeing her all over the place. She has a beautiful voice, but she lacks feeling/passion/real emotion/grit (whatever ya wanna call it) when she performs. She seems removed from the music she sings, rather than a part of it. Would have been such a blessing to see Elliott perform. *sigh* Maybe next year!

I'm searching around trying to find out about this Grammy Radio Forum. This is what I have come up with so far.

Carrie Underwood yey. I guess she will win again. If an artist was invited to person he/she has the more chances of winning an award.
harleywoman - January 25, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
Okay, I gotta laugh. When Elliott performs on the Grammys several times, would we like for him to be referred to a recycled. I think them would be fightin words for us. LOL
Linda4Elliott - January 25, 2008 06:21 PM (GMT)
imo, Janet Jackson is recycled, because it's just the same old thing over and over w/her. Elliott will continue to evolve and grow...I just know it. I don't mind hearing the same artists perform again, if they are inspiring and/or fresh. I have to wonder about her connections when she keeps getting these gigs.....

Well, her guy - Jermain Dupri, has the same manager as Elliott - so if everything is related, I'd like to think that they all have the same connections and eventually that will pay off in some important hook ups/collaborations/invitations for Elliott. Let the wardrobe malfunctions fly where they may.
