Title: Elliott Yamin Out At Croshal
Description: Who will market Elliott now?

ohioguy45780 - February 5, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
Now listed as a **"past client"** on their website.

This is a loss of a substantial marketing arm. Obviously there was no renewal. I do notice many artists don't stay at CEG more than a year or so. I wonder when they truly severed their relationship? Is this why there was no push for OW? Or was the lack of OW's success a reason for the split?

Let's hope he lines up a new marketing team pronto!!

Wow, interesting find. ... All along, I've wondered at how little time people seem to spend with this group. And it looks to me now like none of the people who were listed as clients during the time Elliott was are listed as current clients, so they split with a bunch of clients at around the same time. Either they hvae problems or that's part of their business plan. Maybe they just sign on for particular launches or something?

If this really did have something to do with a lack of marketing on One Word that's really poor planning on everybody's part, it would seem. On the other hand, maybe the One Word problem was just one of those unpredictable things about what will fly when.

More news to stay tuned for, I guess.

This is interesting. I don't know who is replacing them, but I'm looking forward to finding out. Seems like it's a good move on Elliott's part. Some of Elliott's money was spent on ineffective things during their promotion (remember ISquad?) Their current big push is Taylor Dayne from the 80's.

I'm looking at this as a choice by Elliott's team. I wonder who they will pick now.

Yep, because if you want to switch, you need to do it prior to your next album coming out. A new marketing representative will do that and probably needs to be on board well before the cd comes out. So since Elliott says the new one is scheduled for late summer release, now's the time to line up a new team.

ETA: I don't think the split is too old, since while the CEG web site is changed, their MySpace still lists all of Elliott's stuff:

georgiafan1 - February 5, 2008 05:25 PM (GMT)
I hope it all works out well for Elliott.

One thing that really bugged me about CEG was that they used to send MySpace bulletins with Elliott's first name spelled as "Elliot". I wrote them and asked them to correct the spelling and to check his MySpace or CD cover if they needed proof of the correct spelling. They wrote back and said thanks and they spelled it correctly most of the time from then on.

I used to wonder if the reason so many places had Elliott's first name spelled incorrectly was because CEG spelled it incorrectly.

Sk8888 - February 5, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
I wish nothing but the best for Croshal and his team.

Moving forward though, I'm looking for a marketing partnership that will take Elliott's well-earned success on his debut CD, and WFY single, and invest that "capital" with savvy professionals who can outline a plan for making Elliott's second CD release even more successful than his first.

Eyess2NKiss - February 5, 2008 08:47 PM (GMT)
You're hiring then, sk8888??? That sounds like a real winner to me!!!

Rick1965 - February 5, 2008 09:21 PM (GMT)
I am sure there will be alot of interest in Elliott from some great management teams. The industry must have taken notice of Elliott's success as an indie...he charted very high with his single and the album did very well with very little promotion (I mean compared to the push he would have had on a major label)

This can only be a good thing.

This is interesting news. I wonder who will take over the job for album #2? I guess I still want E to get all the advantages a major label can provide.

Unfortunately, I don't know that in the current environment you can have both the mega-money, mega-staff initial push on songs and albums that big labels provide *and* the indie freeom to pursue a lot of unusual and innovative deals and projects on your own that explore the possibilities of the new music economy and to shape your own musical identity (especially if you're a pretty new artist.), can you?

It would be nice if there were a way, but when I read stuff about the music industry people still seem to say that a major deal is gonna tie you down in ways you might not like, especially now that the media world is changing so fast, while an indie deal just can't possibly provide all the money and clout in working with big radio and big tv and such that you can get with a major.

I guess they'll try to get as good a promotional team on board as they can for the next cd. So far, it seems to me they're doing quite well getting as much balance as possible, so I'm thinking they have their eye on some new potential partners that can supply stuff they may have lacked last time. Hoping so, anyway.

I sincerely hope that that never happens. His co-managers have done a great job so far. They both have well established careers in the music industry. One's family and the other one is from Richmond too. They seem to really care what happens to Elliott. Being a new artist, Elliott needs people around him who will look out for his best interest, not just the bottom line on their corporate spreadsheet. IMHO.

That was my 1st thought too!

If Croshal spelled Elliott's name wrong on their site, perhaps they inadvertently listed him as a past client???

hip-yamized - February 5, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
If he is a past client, they forgot to remove him and his ONE WORD video from their "Featured Artists" page.

SoulMusicRocks - February 5, 2008 10:57 PM (GMT)
Wow, that's pretty crazy. Well, I hope he ends up with great new management.

I should have said:

I'm looking for Elliott and his team to hire someone who will make the best use of his current success and ensure that his second CD is even more successful than his first.

do we know what Elliott was doing for the Super Bowl? Jaime's myspace has pics of her & friends there and her @ the Maxim Super Bowl party, even a picture with Ryan Seacrest at Maxim Party but no Elliott.
In meetings with new management?
In studio recording next album?
At rehearsal for surprise Grammy performance?

hmmmmm

And whats up with her myspace playing "lost" by Michael Buble? Not E Music.

klo129 - February 5, 2008 11:18 PM (GMT)
Isn't Three Ring Projects (Jeff Rabhan) Elliott's management company (with E co-managed by Josh Abraham)? I've never understood who handles what among Sony/ATV, Three Ring, Croshal, and Red. Elliott's still listed as a client on the Three Ring site (and his name is spelled correctly).

I agree with Klo that it's sometimes difficult to know the job responsibilities of each group.

But if there's one area where I hope Elliott and his team find a rain maker, it would be in the area of East Coast/National television appearances.

That being said, Elliott's radio road show tour was imperative to gaining credibility with the DJ's and local radio, so I'm grateful to Croshal and team for any role they played in coordinating that much needed Meet & Greet with radio station personnel.

I think Croshal did a good job with getting Elliott's name out there.

But honestly, I say on to bigger and better things. Big fish in a small pond and all that...

harleywoman - February 5, 2008 11:59 PM (GMT)
I'm sure Jaime was at the Superbowl as part of being a Hometown Hottie finalist. Not only was there the party, she had a photo shoot while there. There are others that are close to E that don't stream his music either. Just sayin.... She has a video of him singing ASFY on her myspace page. Besides that's her offical page not her personal one. :)

I personally think Elliott is in the studio big time because he hasn't logged into myspace in a few days. JMO

I was kinda thinking the same thing, and if he is making business changes as well, he is a very busy man right now.

I agree - he's getting ready to leave for the better part of a month with the USO and Angola trips (plus some time here in Richmond - hehe!) If he wants the CD out by summer, this is prime recording time - and it's the practical time for him to renew or replace anyone on his team as seems appropriate.

I think that some are confusing Croshal, the marketing group, with Elliott's management. They are not the same.

I see that they are for marketing, but would some fine well learned person lay out who Elliott's with and what they do? It's really confusing.

Linda4Elliott - February 6, 2008 04:42 AM (GMT)
Just looking at Croshal's site under services (can't copy and paste) it lists marketing, pricing, distribution, contracts, production, releasing internationally, etc...

In addition, they can facilitate the entire release of an album.
They specialize in partnerships with televison and film and a variety of consumer brands.

They also provide management for a select group of artists.

I also found the Elliott Yamin Case Study on a pdf document....interesting

I saw that too Linda. I was wondering... were they the group responsible for getting radio/tv spots for Elliott? I have never quite understood everyone's function... it was all a little blurred to me. If he had a management team and a marketing team, who does what exactly? Where does Red distribution and Sony publishing fit in? I know there's someone here that can explain to all!

georgiafan1 - February 6, 2008 04:54 AM (GMT)
Red handled radio. Not sure what else. I remember that some guy named Danny from Red went with Elliott to a lot of the radio stations during the radio tour and seemed to already have a great relationship with the DJs. Some DJs would kid around with/about him.

alienhamster - February 6, 2008 05:16 AM (GMT)
I'll be interested to see who grabs him up next (or whom he grabs up). Thanks to Croshal for all their help in launching E's career.

I think Croshal was mainly responsible for getting him publicity, in whatever form, rather than directly involved with pushing for radio play. ... Like, you can book him for an interview with a dj, but that isn't the same as pushing the station to play him, which I think was mainly done by Red.

To get something on the radio today, you generally have to convince the suits in the corporate office to pick up the song. The djs and even the program director have little or nothing to do with what's played in most cases, I think. However, getting booked into interviews helps get your persona out there, and *may* play a tiny role in getting the station to play you, in some cases.

Croshal seems to do somewhat different things for different clients, and they also have their own virtual label.

Wow, looking at Elliott's case study really makes clear what an endless job it is to get that publicity, with all the people fighting for it. The idea that you have to make a special effort to get reviews at About.com and so on, even as you're also trying to pitch somebody to Letterman and Tyra Banks -- a pretty daunting task. I really think they've done pretty well by the boy. But every marketing group is probably limited by their specific competencies and specific connections.

Here's another aricle that come in August about RED Distribution. Some of you will remember this one.
