http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAuwdcADcIU&feature=relatedHe looks like the missing Deluise brother!
I don't think I have ever been more embarrased for anyone in my whole life!!!
WHAT WAS HE THINKING?????
AND is it me or does he lisp when he sings???
shatner8 - February 10, 2008 05:10 PM (GMT)
YIKES! (and I like Michael Buble, but this interpretation, wrong, just wrong)
Efan2 - February 10, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
Definitely lacking in soul. Doesn't hold a candle to Elliott's version. Boring....
Linda4Elliott - February 10, 2008 05:35 PM (GMT)
welllllll, I like Michael Buble's version. :hide: I don't think he is a soul man, more of a jazz/big band kinda man. So I think it's pretty good when I listen to it in that context. If you picture yourself sitting in a smokey lounge, it works :rotfl:
On the other hand, the version Shatner posted this morning of Usher, now THAT is bad.
hahaha..I hope I didn't kill this thread, feel free to keep poking fun!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
MOMster - February 10, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
I think Buble-Deluise is kinda smarmy.
trouble - February 10, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
 I'ts got that slow uneven tempo , that makes me dislike jazz ! I thought it was a lackluster rendition !
chattycb - February 10, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
Well, it's not the best rendition I've heard, but not the worst either. Sorta like comparing apples to oranges.
The definitive version for me is Donny's , with Elliott's a close second.
I love Buble, however. He's at his best with jazzy standards-- check out his latest cd
"Call Me Irresponsible."

THIS POST IS POISONOUS...IF YOU CAN'T CONTROL THE WAY IT ENTERS THE THREAD

Typical Buble. I don't mind his voice, the only problem is I literally can SLEEP to his voice. He doesn't evoke any passion for me....just makes me sleepy. Man, if he recorded a lullaby CD, I would sleep like a log! (No kidden, I am yawning as I type this!)

That's funny that you say that....his CD comes with a warning against listening to Buble and operating heavy machinery.

I still love ya, Rick!
Rick1965 - February 10, 2008 11:01 PM (GMT)
OK...OK...I'll admit it...I actually like Michel Buble...except when he sings Home and A Song For You...other than that he is fine.

phhhbbbllllllltttttttt!!!!! so funny!
Berkana - February 11, 2008 06:04 AM (GMT)
Aw I love Michael Buble, he's awesome in concert (Probably my third favorite artist to see in concert behind John Fogerty, and Prince.), and I don't mind the version. He's not trying to sing it like Donny Hathaway (like Elliott did), he's infusing more jazz to it, and I agree with Chattycb it's like comparing apples to oranges.
LilYaminion - February 11, 2008 03:38 PM (GMT)
Oh my.... and I like him too....
chloewannabee - February 11, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
well i LOVED the trumpet solo!

I just hate the jazz-vibe that Michael puts into his take on ASFY.

SoulMusicRocks - February 17, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
I love old school and modern Jazz pretty equally. This version was ok. As Chatty stated, Elliott and Donny do this song the best justice with their soulful power. Michael is still a good vocalist in his own right albeit in a very different genre.
et4elliott - February 21, 2008 09:26 PM (GMT)
WAY TOO SLOW for me. Sorry but I couldn't sit and listen through it all the way. Elliott's version is much better!
Taratova - February 22, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)
Every time I hear a song Elliott sung and it is being sung by someone else , I hear Elliott's version in my mind and they never measure up to Elliott's version. Elliott just owns it once he sings it.
artymom - February 23, 2008 02:37 AM (GMT)
I love you Buble but I'm sorry, that was snoozy, not jazzy. Once I heard Elliott's version, I was done. You're right Tara, he just OWNS it.
SoulAngel - February 24, 2008 02:28 PM (GMT)
Awww I really love Michael Buble. I have all 3 of his albums and they are great.
He is very sweet and charismatic too.
I like his version, it's different to Elliott's but still great.
I think this footage is from the DVD I have of Michael Buble too and it's excellent by the way. :awe:
Here is another rendition of
Song For You that I love from another fav singer of mine. Christina can do no wrong in my book.

I have this CD and I don't know why I didn't think to check this earlier, but guess who produced ASFY on Buble's album AND plays the piano.
Yes folks, none other than David Foster :rotfl: I though some of you may enjoy that tidbit.
And as Chloe mentioned in another thread, I was a little put off by Randy's comment after Elliott's performance of ASFY....Yo, I hated the arrangement, it was confusing, but you can blow, you got it like that, you could sing it like Donny anyday...(something to that effect), but NOW I realize that he was making a dig at Foster. I LOVE RANDY.

Yes, it was Randy's version of a b***h-slap! :rotfl:

Well, I'll say that I don't like Michael's ASFY...not when you compare it to Elliott...however, I like Mr. Buble...he was my fave BEFORE Elliott...in fact, I'm going on a road trip tomorrow to see him in concert in Austin...with my friend who likes Elliott but still loves Michael...no accounting for taste...lol! But...it'll be fun...I'm taking all Elliott's music to "remind" her how wonderful he is... :angelnot:

I agree. Michael is jazz not R & B. For his style, I think he did a great job. I listen to this version all the time and then listen to Elliott. Yes, I prefer Elliott but I do love Michael's version also.

LOL that hits the nail right on the head for me. No wonder Elliott's version of
Home was better too (even MB admitted it). E's voice packs a punch :1word:

Sorry to disagree with everyone who posted so far. ..
I think Karen Carpenter's version of ASFY is actually the best- especially the last line "And when my life is over, remember when we were together. We were alone and I was singing a song for you." Chokes me up.
I LOVE Buble's "Home"- and I think it is the definitive version.
That said, Elliott did a great job with both of them!

It really depends on the sound you like for ASFY. Elliott's closely covers Donnie Hathaway, Karen Carpenter's is more a clean - lovely version and I have to say, I even love the original by the songwriter Leon Russell, but that dates me doesn't it. I love them all for different reasons. Elliott's moves me the most - particularly that long wailing run at the end.
