I love her...but ...UGH!!!!!

Here's a very young Amy singing "Teach Me Tonight" This version is more like the original De Castro Sisters version. See what you think.

I love it but can't say who is better in this song - her or Elliott.
Just both are great.

I can say who's better! :) It would have been fun to hear Elliott (the better) do that song with that orchestra Amy had. I really hope that someday he records that song. I thought it was magic the night he did it on idol.

She sounds like Diane Schuur...love it!

I first saw Amy's performance video in 2006 right after Elliott performed the song on AI. I loved the song (which I had never heard before then) and Elliott's rendition so much that I went searching online to see what the original song was like or how others sounded doing it. That's when I saw Amy's version. I loved her different take on it (but that didn't affect how much I liked Elliott's version) and became an Amy fan right then and there. :)
ETA: Just to clarify, the song I was referring to above is Teach Me Tonight, not MMFL. Heh. I forgot to quote the pertinent post...I really shouldn't be posting when I'm preoccupied with work (or vice versa). LOL ;)

she truely is gifted. Too bad her life is soooo messed up. It is sad.

Well now that she's actually in rehab maybe things will get better for her. :)
ETA: I just saw on another thread that MMFL was on her first CD so she actually recorded it long before we heard Elliott sing it.

She recorded MMFL under the title "In my Bed" on her first CD -FRANK.
I don't like her rendition at all. Elliott's is so much better.
My favorite Amy's song is "What is it about men". Can't stop listening to it.

I have a copy of Amy's Frank, with the MMFL track. I, too, prefer E's version. ;)

I like her voice a lot... loved Teach Me Tonight. Her Moody's Mood version I did not care for at all, though...
SoulMusicRocks - February 17, 2008 10:07 PM (GMT)
I feel bad for Amy because of all she is going through in her life. As for this version, it is decent. Some of the phrasing is definitely channeling Ella Fitzgerald. She is a talented artist who has brought back the 60's with her album "Back to Black".

Her MMFL was too fast. Elliott's was much better.

I definately prefer Elliott's version. Even though I love Amy Winehouse.

I do love this song and there are so so many versions of it. Amy's is really great, and it certainly doesn't take away from the purity of Elliott's rendition.
elizajv - April 4, 2008 12:34 AM (GMT)
This is the first time I checked out this thread and also that video. Amy is certainly talented and that version of Teach Me Tonight was great. Her Moody's Mood was rushed and lacked that sexiness that E's version exuded.
chloewannabee - April 4, 2008 02:35 AM (GMT)
Generally, I like her singing, although I have little respect for her, but, I'm sorry, her MMFL is just plain SKEERY!!!!!

Wow I loved that version! Look at how pretty and normal she looks there!
Wish I had that as a recorded version.
I would also still love to hear Elliott record Teach Me Tonight (because when he did it, it was OMAGAWH sexy.)
chloewannabee - April 4, 2008 02:43 AM (GMT)
Yea, Teach me tonight is AWESOME!!And I love the orchestra-the sax does me in
