Title: Any News On Melinda?

AvivaDove - March 18, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
Any more news? Is she recording a cd? Simon called her his Melinda. I would have figured he would have gotten her a contract by now. I love Melinda.

Linda4Elliott - March 18, 2008 07:14 PM (GMT)
I know that she released a single on itunes. My Funny Valentine, but it is arranged different from the one she did on AI.

I visited her myspace and didn't find any new info, but I did read one of her funny blogs. She has a great sense of humor. Too bad we didn't get to see her personality very much last season.

Finally...Sorry it took me so long!!!
Current mood:  full

Hey ya'll!!!! First, I should probably apologize for being MIA for the past couple months. I do come on here and read the comments, but I have been going so much I haven't had time to respond like I want to and catch you up on what's been going on. So, let's see here…what have we missed?
I finished the tour…duh, I know. But I just never got a chance to say that I had the very best time with my all my babies. I was so proud to be on the stage with every single one of them. I can't wait to see what God is going to do in each of their lives. I know they will be a successful bunch. So, to Sligh, GiGi, HayBay, Jaya, Philness, Husband, Kish, Blaker and Baby Girl…here's to making history!!!

Since the tour, I have had so much fun doing corporate dates, appearances and even some great charities out there. It was a blast! I met Mickey Mouse, ate great food, got a VIP tour of DisneyWorld, ate great food, rode in my first cable car, ate great food, had an amazing birthday party, ate great food, signed with great management, ate great food, took my mommy to the White house, ate great food (with the president), did some recording (no date for the album so far, sorry!), ate great food, hosted Christmas at Belmont, ate great food, sang a whole bunch, ate great food, got to meet some amazing Backups, ate great food and so on…which means…I had to go shopping with my best friend Kelley because I don't think I quite fit in the clothes I had previous to all the great food. Oops…my bad…did I mention the food was great?

Anyway, I have had the best time and I am so excited about what's next. Coming up, there is the Michael W. Smith Christmas Tour with the Katinas and I get to go into the studio and do what I love! I am so thankful to God for opening doors I never imagined. I know that I owe all of this to Him and I will spend the rest of my life and all eternity thanking Him for it. That's why I am so excited to have just had Thanksgiving Day. I absolutely love the reminder to be grateful for all that life has to offer. Even when things don't turn out how I thought they might, I know that His plan is so much better than my own and that the right things always happens when God is control. It's amazing!

So I said all that to say…I have learned at least 10 things since the tour…ready???

1. It is possible to actually miss the ten people you have been with for the entire year…and it is impossible to be any more proud of all of them.

2. When you visit DisneyWorld, just know that there is a 50/50 chance Mickey Mouse is a girl. Just try talking to him…her…the mouse.

3. If you want to have a roller skating party for your birthday, you may need to purchase collision insurance for certain family members that will remain nameless…

4. If you find yourself sitting next to the President for dinner and they place your soup far away from you, feel free to move the soup closer instead of scooping it up in your spoon and praying to God it stays on the spoon on that long trip to your mouth…because it probably won't make it. Thank the Lord for strategically placed napkins.

5. The song "Have A Nice Day" does not go over too well if you are singing at a convention that starts at 8:30am.

6. If you are singing for an ice skating event, you might want to wear something a little warm since you might be right next to the ice…a sleeveless, above the knee dress does not count.

7. If you are hosting an event, you may want to know how to pronounce the name of the venue…can anyone say Schermerhorn? Anybody?

8. There is no incognito if you have "The Doolittle" nose. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it does cover a good portion of my face and is therefore hard to disguise…clown noses don't even fit.

9. The Tennessee Titans may not win every game, but when you are on the sidelines with them, you understand why they are the best team ever. They are the greatest guys!!! And if Vince (so very) Young calls you "baby", you may forget that you call him "so very Young" to remind yourself that you are much older than he is.

10. Spanx do not work on sweet potato pie, chocolate cake and apple pie all at the same time. I guess they can only hold in so much of your stomach. Oh! And cheese burgers and French fries and carrot cake and steak…such good steak…

***Bonus*** Joining a fitness center does not automatically make you fit. And if you decide to go to the gym and use their ever so clever cardio theater, you might want to get on one of the machines as opposed to just watching the movie…

*That one was on the house…

She sang MFV on AI Extra and said she is creating an album! I'm very excited for her. She was a brilliant vocalist last year. She said she got to work with Jonny Lang too, so that is cool. He has a brilliant bluesy/soul voice.

Linda,
Thanks for posting that!

According to some Melinda fans who've posted on Television Without Pity, she hopes to release an indie album in June or thereabouts, with a mix of original and cover material, under the aegis of something called the Music Publishing Company of America, some kind of music-publishing outfit based in NYC.

She's also said to have a Christmas 08 album in the works, as well as an all-originals album release planned for 2009.

How much of this is true, I don't know. But it would be nice if it were true.

AvivaDove - March 20, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
I'm surprised Simon didn't sign her with Clive.

I get the feeling that Simon kind of separates "who I really like musically" from "who I want to see signed because I believe they'll make a lot of bucks," don't you?

He seems to love and admire classical crossover, smooth jazz, great vocalists in the old-fashioned tradition, but then when it comes to signings he pushes for people and styles that I don't think he enjoys at all. Like, he was looking like mad for a blond country singer starting at least in Season 2 (Carmen Rasmussen! What a vocalist. Not.), but he clearly hates country music.

He's a real split personality, I think.

:music: I personally can not wait to get music from Melinda. She was my top favorite last season. Also hope to get music from Lakisha Jones, Chris Sligh, Phil Stacey and now that I have heard some music from Chris Richardson, he also is on my list.

Go Melinda! :woohoo:

idoletc - March 23, 2008 03:35 PM (GMT)
Oh, yes, absolutely, can hardly wait for some Melinda music. She, to me, is the female Elliott. Love, love ,love her greatly! :cheerleader1:

ElliottisTrueBlue - March 23, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
Hope she releases something soon. She's the only S6er I will probably buy anything from...

Did anyone see Melinda this morning on the Today Show? She was the surprise wedding singer for the bride and groom. Every June the Today Show hosts a wedding and the couple is married on air. Apparently Melinda is the bride's cousin.
They surprised the couple by having Melinda perform.

Melinda said she has just finished her vocals for her first album. She will be choosing a single to release in the next few weeks and her CD should be released in the fall.

AvivaDove - June 25, 2008 02:18 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the update! I can hardly wait. Someday, I would love to hear her sing with Elliott.

SoulMusicRocks - July 30, 2008 12:41 PM (GMT)
It's about time! She is insanely talented and deserves the deal/CD.

Linda4Elliott - July 30, 2008 01:07 PM (GMT)
Great news!!!

itslate - July 31, 2008 04:51 AM (GMT)
GREAT! Can't wait to hear it.

Melinda, one of my other favorites from AI, said in her 8/3/08 MySpace blog that she recently finished recording songs for her CD. She recorded nine of them in NY and six more in Nashville. Mike Mangini is her producer.

I don't remember seeing an approximate release date, but I know she's already been involved in the "mixing process" and is about to gear up "for promo, video shoots and fun things surrounding (the) CD release." So, I assume (or I should say, hope) it won't be long before it comes out.

Linda4Elliott - August 8, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
Elliott also worked with Mike Mangini. Was it on ASFY? and a couple others too, I think.

I'm very excited for Melinda's CD.

Sounds like Santa will be extra good to us this year!
