Title: Memorial Donations - JDRF
Description: In Memory of Claudette Yamin
peppers23 - April 5, 2008 02:14 AM (GMT)
Dear Etrain Family and Guests,
In order to make it easier to follow the wishes of the Yamin Family, here's a direct link to the Central Virginia Chapter of the JDRF - Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, through which you may make an online donation to honor Ms. Claudette's memory.
https://www.jdrf.org/index.cfm?page_id=100899 I spoke with a represenative of JDRF in Richmond today, Alicia Arce, and she said that this is the way to make make a memorial donation over the internet. If you choose to donate, when it asks for which chapter, please choose
VA - Central Virginia Chapter. There is a field that will ask for your relationship to the honoree. I just put Etrain. Where it asks for the address to send your donation notice to the family, for now, please feel free to put the address of the Central Virginia Chapter listed below. Please email your full name and address to Ms. Arce at
aarce@jdrf.org and she will forward notice of your tribute donation to Elliott. The amount of your donation will be kept private. All donations go directly to JDRF.
Many of us have donated to this organization in the past, however, I would like any first-time donors to know that JDRF is a very reputable foundation. And please, if you have time or any questions, spend a few minutes looking over their mission statement and so forth on their site.
JDRF - Central Virginia Chapter
3805 Cutshaw Ave. #212
Richmond, Va 23230
Hugs to all,
Peppers :grouphug:
*****UPDATED INFORMATION 4/10/08*******
I was asked to pass this on by Alicia Arce from JDRF;
As per Elliott's request, she is sending him a weekly envelope of both online donation notices and memorial donation cards and letters sent to the RICHMOND office. If you made an online tribute donation or sent one to the National address in New York in Claudette's memory, then please send the following information to her at
aarce@jdrf.org; Your full name and address. Feel free to put that you are from the Etrain and your screen name if you so desire.
You may still send a memorial donation and letter to the Richmond address but please DO NOT write the amount of your donation on your card or letter. Ms. Arce will only be forwarding to Elliott your cards and letters that omit this.
If you made an online donation and wish to send Elliott a personal message via email to Alicia, please keep it brief as she is quite busy these days (in a good way).

thank you for this thread and the link Patty.
judyp - April 5, 2008 02:27 AM (GMT)
What should we put in for an address to send the acknowledge card to? It's a required field so you can't leave it blank. Maybe we could put the address of the chapter in and they will be able to get the card to Elliott some time in the future?

I am having the same issue. I know it has been discussed before, but I don't remember how it was resolved. Anyone remember?
This is what it says:
JDRF will send a letter acknowledging your Memorial Donation to the person of your choosing. Please fill in the recipient's information below.

Thanks for reminding me of this issue. Ms. Arce said that she will put the acknowledgements all aside and send them to the person and address of the family's choosing. This issue is being worked out.
Good Idea Judy
Can anyone post the Richmond Chapter's address? I can't seem to find it on the site.
EYaminCDaughtryfan - April 5, 2008 03:06 AM (GMT)
This is a great idea. A cure needs to found soon.

Thanks Linda and GraceStreet. When I made my donation earlier today, I only recall putting in my home address. I was at work and in a hurry. Woops.....
Ms. Arce will see that the family gets notice of the online donations and is looking out for them. And if you prefer, you can mail a check or money order in to the chapter address. Please put "Claudette Yamin" in the comments section of your check so that your donation gets properly credited.

After trying to figure it out ...I just called them and taked with Ms.Arce and she took my donation...What a sweet lady she is..

I mailed a check today to the Cutshaw Address. Put a letter with it so I would be sure they knew it was in memory of Claudette. I don't know why I didn't even think of doing it online. Oh well, it all works.
sandyb - April 5, 2008 04:20 AM (GMT)
I mailed a check also. Wish I had thought about doing it online or just calling. I especially want to ensure it gets properly credited to Claudette.
judyp - April 5, 2008 04:22 AM (GMT)
I just donated and put in the chapter's address for the acknowledgement card and it seemed to go through.

It's all the same. Even if you sent a check to the National Hedquarters in New York and noted that the donation was in memory of Claudette Yamin, Central Va Chapter, it will still count all the same. All monies go to National to fund a cure.
I'm fairly choosy about which non-profit organizations I support, given that I work in fundraising/finance area of a different not-for-profit entity and have a fairly good grasp of accounting for charity-based operations. In my opinion, JDRF is the real deal. I have donated with a high degree of comfort that my money will be well spent.

Me too.
I put (E-Train) after my signature.
I thought the family would like to know the donation came from an E-Trainer rather than just a random person.

Your donation is worth just as much and, I'm sure, appreciated just as much with or without the Etrain designation.

I did something wrong as well when I filled out the form early Tuesday morning. The confirmation email said they'd send a card to me acknowledging my memorial donation to ...... me! Somehow, my own name showed up there.
I called and spoke with Alicia. She asked me to forward the confirmation email to her and said she would straighten it out right away. We had a nice little chat, talking about our experiencing meeting Elliott and how much we respected Mama Yamin. Poor girl, she'd been tearing up all morning with each new phone call. At least I got to be alone with my tears.

I understand and agree with your position trouble. The reason why I put Etrain is so that when the family gets the list of memorial donations, they don't need to wonder "who's this person, was he/she important in her life?". I'm not a family member or a close friend, but a casual acquaintence, (and even this is a stretch), and admirer of Ms. Claudette. Etrain denotes the lack of a personal relationship.
Then again, we all are free to just make a donation to JDRF. A memorial donation is specific to honor the memory of an individual an at this time, Ms. Claudette's passing is my motivation for donating.

Hi Peppers ! I didn't mean to make it sound like that , but actually, it was because of Claudett that I gave at this time , I think I put down "for" Claudette, but I don't think I remembered to identify myself ! :headsmack:

I didn't think to put E-Train in the relationship field, I put friend, well because that's how she made us feel. Where I put my name though I added (aka HarleyWoman).

No worries trouble :). There are no hard and set rules here. We each will put what we feel appropriate.

*****UPDATED INFORMATION 4/10/08*******
I was asked to pass this on by Alicia Arce from JDRF;
As per Elliott's request, she is sending him a weekly envelope of both online donation notices and memorial donation cards and letters sent to the RICHMOND office. If you made an online tribute donation or sent one to the National address in New York in Claudette's memory, then please send the following information to her at aarce@jdrf.org; Your full name and address.

??????
Are we just suppose to send Alicia an e-mail with our name and address and tell her that we made an on-line donation?
Didn't we do that when we filled out the on-line donation form?
Linda4Elliott - April 14, 2008 12:46 PM (GMT)
I Love Elliott, I think maybe because Elliott wanted a report of the donations, it was easier for Ms. Arse to have an email sent to her, than to go through all of the donations the JDRF has received in the last couple of weeks. At least that's the reason my brain came up with...LOL
harleywoman - April 14, 2008 12:58 PM (GMT)
