My daughter and I went to the Buble concert last night. We saw him in Hershey last year, so we were prepared for a great night full of music, laughter and fun. We are both huge fans. If you haven't seen Michael live, you might be surprised about how funny, witty and charming he is In between songs, he has you laughing at his antics and stories. Because of the children in the audience, a lot of his "material" is innuendo; he's the master of telling off-color stories without actually using any x-rated language. I have never been as entertained as I have been at a Michael Buble concert.

But even with all the wonderful filler, he still sings a great many songs. And all of my favorites were included. During "Home", a video played on the large screens behind him which elicited "oohs" and applause from the sold-out crowd because they were local shots of Hershey as well as logos of the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Flyers and our own Hershey Bears (hockey). As he finished the song, the camera in the video pulled back from a "Welcome to Hershey" sign landscaped into the grounds in front of the Hershey High School. Very, very classy.

His final encore was "A Song for You". Sorry, Michael, but you can't even begin to touch Elliott on this one. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it's not half as good as Elliott's. He did do something with the song at the end though - instead of singing "I'm singing this song to you", he changed it to something along the lines of "I'm singing this song with my chocolate eating buddies". The crowd, and I, loved it.

I took some videos of him singing "Me and Mrs. Jones" and his new single, "Lost". I'll upload them tonight and post links.

The opening act was amazing - Naturally7. It's a group of seven men who sing acapella with a twist. Their voices sound like instruments. You would swear that there was a band playing with them. It's one of the most incredible things I have ever heard. At times, it sounded like even violins were accompanying them. And the lead singer - Dwight Stewart - has one of the most beautiful voices. Check out this video:

and this one where you can hear them use their vocals to make instrumental music:

I bought their CD and met them after the concert. They were so nice and easy to talk to. I've become a very big fan of theirs.

Cfans,
Thanks for your post-- so glad your daughter and you had a great time.
I love Michael, have his latest CD and listen to it all the time. He was quite entertaining on Rachel Ray's show a while back. He played at either Radio City or the Garden in NYC this past summer but tickets were prohibitive so I didn't go. Plus I found out about it too late. Would love to see him in concert one day but not as much as Elliott!!!

ETA: You live near Hershey? How cool! I love it there although i haven't been in a long time. Every fall they have the most amazing car swap and meet on their fair grounds. Have you ever been?

I know what you mean about the cost Chatty. But we save our pennies for a whole year just to be able to go. He's promised to come back often, so we'll be saving for next year's concert.

I actually live on the outskirts of Harrisburg, about 18 miles from Hershey, so it's a very easy drive. I've never been to the car swap/meet, but I know it's one of the largest on the east coast. Every hotel room within 30 miles is booked during that week. When she was younger, my daughter competed with the Hershey Figure Skating Club, so we drove back/forth to Hershey nearly every day/night for years. The Hershey entertainment complex continues to grow and grow, so I'm very glad to be so close.

Carolyn, I don't think I knew what part of PA you were from until just now. I lived in Newville (outside of Carlisle) for 9 yrs, from '93 - '02. I miss it very much. I usually come back to visit once a year and stay with a friend in the area and try to plan my trip around a concert at Hershey. Last year summer we went to see The Police.

I'd love to see Buble in concert. Gypsy posted a few videos of Naturally7 a while back and they are fantastic! That had to be a great concert :)
