I was very sorry to learn of the loss of Elliott Yamin’s mom last evening. I would like, as a fan, to send my deepest condolences to the entire Yamin family. In addition to being a wonderfully talented singer, Elliott has always come across as a decent, likeable, charming guy – a ‘mensch’ (as he and my people would say). I’m glad that his mother got to experience the American Idol thrill ride with him and perhaps it made her feel that his hopes and dreams and his future as an entertainer were secured because of it. Last night he sang beautifully as he always does, but with an added strength and dignity under the circumstances.
I’m sure his mom was always proud of all of his accomplishments, as a budding entertainer but even more importantly, as a good, caring, devoted son.
Here is a sentiment that is inscribed on my parent’s headstone, for Claudette since the apple never falls far from the tree – ‘Heaven is now richer’.
