Title: Whom Do You Like Better: David C Or Daughtry?

jogr - April 18, 2008 10:53 PM (GMT)
I really like David C's voice (I'm crazy about Billie Jean) - I think I like David even better than Chris D.
How about you?

Rutti - April 18, 2008 11:12 PM (GMT)
Sorry Daughtry fans, but I think David C's voice has it all over Daughtry's. It will be interesting to see how things pan out with him.

CathyEM - April 19, 2008 01:55 AM (GMT)
For me, comparing their voices is like comparing apples to oranges. They have different sounds. David C. seems more "authentic" to me but I think that's open to interpretation. What's the biggest difference for me is that I would get frustrated at Chris's lack of facial expressions. He seemed stone-faced for most of his performances. David C. emotes much better and seems like a very warm, sensitive person who's not afraid to show his soft side. That enhances the overall "package" for me, so David's my preference.

(But there will NEVER be another Elliott!!)

David's voice is much more better than Daughtrys.

BTW, I agree with the poster above me. ^_^

I like David C so much better......Chris D sounds too much like other bands out there.....David has his own sound........

Jelliott - April 19, 2008 03:03 AM (GMT)
David C!!!!!

I agree %100. I think their sounds are very different. David's voice moves me more, though.

idoletc - April 19, 2008 10:02 AM (GMT)
I think they are both very good, in different ways...but I have to say..I love looking at Chris Daughtry. :thud:

Berkana - April 19, 2008 04:44 PM (GMT)
Ugh David Cook.

I do not like Daughtry at all. (Probably one of the reasons I wasn't a fan of David Cook at the beginning of the competition because I thought he was trying to emulate Daughtry.)

ElliottisTrueBlue - April 19, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
Cookie fo' sho'. He's got a better range, and more soul (plus he doesn't seem like he's trying so hard to be a "rocker", he just is, which is probably why I never got Daughtry vibes from him). But I'm totally biased. There's only one Idol contestant who trumps Cookie in my book, and we are on his fansite right now :chloe:

SoulMusicRocks - April 20, 2008 12:19 PM (GMT)
David Cook. His voice and range is better, IMO.

GraceStreet - April 20, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
David Cook, by far. He's more versatile and accessible (ie. on the show, there was always something about Daughtry I could never warm up to, in spite of his obvious music career-ready performances. I guess I felt he was all surface...).

elliottisamazing - April 21, 2008 02:29 AM (GMT)
By a million miles..

David Cook.

That's so true Grace. David screams rockstar but he doesn't scream untouchable or kind of arrogant. (though Simon calls his performances that once in a while.)

Chris always seemed kind of full of himself and a bit "icey". (But I don't know him personally so I can't really claim that as being true.)

I don't know him personally either but I feel exactly the same way Berkana. While Cookie always seemed like a warm, open person in the same vein as Elliott or Ace, Daughtry seemed rather...cold. Like ice. (hey there we go with the fire and ice thing :P) I can't explain it, but vibes say a lot.

movin2thabeet - April 23, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
David Cook!

ElliottisTrueBlue - April 23, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
I do believe it's unanimous.

Oh, by the way, the Cookie Monsters over @ IDF officially love the E-trainers after telling them the nice things ya'll said about him here. :grouphug:

Duh! I didn't realize you could save the songs, thought you could only listen. Yeah. I love Makeover.

ElliottisTrueBlue - April 24, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah, that's his solo album! The one that was taken off Amazon.

jersey_grl20 - April 24, 2008 07:36 PM (GMT)
Cookie!! He's the first idol I've liked, and actually voted for, since Elliott.

Not me, I voted a few times for Melinda last year. No one this year, yet. I do agree that D.C. is the best this year, for sure.

wowhesgood - April 24, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)
No question, David Cook. I appreciate Daughtry's dedication to his family but he's way too arrogant for my tastes.

ohioguy45780 - April 24, 2008 11:30 PM (GMT)
Both have their pluses. Daughtry happened at the right time; he's very lucky that Nickelback and the like had been experiencing such success. He's equally lucky that Clive Davis was still in power at BMG at the time. I think his singles have been solid, if derivative. I actually believe he will have a long career. There's enough of a fanbase there to last years. His "image" is working, even if many of us here find it grasping at affectation. I really enjoy his music on the radio; no need to turn the dial.

Cook is more versatile, but that may be a minus; this is a time of pigeonholing artists to a particular genre, with little room for crossover (the days of Ronstadt, The Eagles, etc, are long gone). Enjoy his rendition of MOTN now, because his handlers will steer him clear of that type of music altogether once he is crowned or takes 2nd place. He is a better singer than Daughtry (certainly more nuance to his voice), and his image must be conceived as an alt/emo rocker to work. That may not be a good thing, since emo rock appears to be in decline. Cook is a platinum success waiting to happen.

ElliottisTrueBlue - April 25, 2008 12:06 AM (GMT)
I agree about the pigeonholing, but Cookie's versatility will allow him to have the last laugh. Genres cycle in and out of popularity, but with versatility you can keep up with the times :rocker:

et4elliott - April 26, 2008 11:00 AM (GMT)
It's really hard for me to decide, at least right now. When I was watching David Cook I could see so many similarities between him and Daughtry. I love them both!

nymphadora - April 26, 2008 02:31 PM (GMT)
:david: !!!

While I really like Chris, I absolutely love David Cook. I remember listening to Chris on Idol and thinking that sometimes he was shouting rather than singing. I never get that feeling from David. There's a new Youtube video of David singing with just his acoustic guitar that was posted yesterday. I posted it in another topic and said that this is how I would like to see David post-idol rather than with a full band because I want to hear his beautiful voice. But I know that he's a rocker and the band is the way to go if he wants to be mega successful (which I think he will be).

David Cook Singing Live

David C has become my number two favorite idol of all time.

Taratova - May 3, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
I think Daughtry put out a very radio friendly good Cd. That being said I also thnk Cook has as much potential. Cook has a bit more softer feelng in his voice and also a little more on the mellow side which I tend to lean with my musical taste. I am not a hard rocker and Chris is a bit more hard in some of his strong notes.

idoletc - May 4, 2008 09:33 AM (GMT)
I have watched a re-watched Season 5 of AI. Has anyone else noticed that sometimes when Chris would begin to sing, the audience would start to scream, and he would act a little pleasantly surprised at the reaction? He would turn his head slightly and grin, I found him to be very humble, JMO. I see the same in DC as well. What they are experiencing with the audience has got to be a very "heady" thing, tho.

Carryviking - May 8, 2008 01:22 PM (GMT)
David Cook :)

Well, you see, I didn't think Chris was that arrogant on the show. He wasn't very expressive, but he still seemed humble. It was after the show that his head blew up IMO.

You may be right, I don't know for sure how Chris is now. I know I really liked him on season 5 and on the AI tour. Then when I seen him again on the IGB in Africa segment, his experience with that really seemed to touch him. I truly hope he stays grounded like our Elliott.

It's the interviews. They could be misleading though.

Nevertheless I still prefer Cookie :)

That is exactly the reason why I never really liked Chris Daughtry. He was shouting most of the time. The only performances by Chris that I liked were Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman and What a Wonderful World coz he managed to sing them without screaming.

I think David's MT experience might be the reason he doesn't shout, because it is so easy to lose your voice during a show if you don't have good technique!
