Title: Jordin Sparks
Description: vocal hemmorrhage

ohioguy45780 - April 20, 2008 04:20 PM (GMT)
Apparently, Jordin Sparks has suffered an acute vocal hemmorrhage, and all appearances have been cancelled. This is a serious condition for a singer. She was scheduled to perform with Alicia Keyes and has pulled out for now. More details forthcoming from Hollywood sources.

Gossip: The condition may be so bad that she may never be able to sing again!

This is terrible news. I really, really like Jordin. She seems like she has her head on straight too. I hope she'll be okay.

That is sad. I hope that Jordin can fully recover. Opening for Alicia Keys would have been a big thing for her career.

I read about that yesterday.

wow, that's terrible. Must be devastating for her. Not only her livelihood at stake, but I assume it's her passion, as well. I wish her a speedy recovery!

LilRedDevilLizzy - April 20, 2008 07:55 PM (GMT)
How horrible! I hope she gets well soon.

ohioguy45780 - April 20, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
oops...didn't know it was already reported.

I feel so bad for Jordan and her fans. I hope she makes a full recovery.

SoulMusicRocks - April 20, 2008 11:07 PM (GMT)
That's horrible. Hopefully things will turn out alright.

I hope she gets better soon. David Archuleta had a vocal chord problem, but recovered. Hopefully, the press is making this sound much worse than it is.

Blake Lewis will now fill in for Sparks for at least two events...including Earth Day festivities.

What is this, the Miss America pageant?

Wow...hope she recovers ok.

Seriously? OMgosh, that is too bad. I hope she heals quickly and completely. She appears to be a great young lady. Get well Jordin!

Well, this is what can happen when you push and push and push a kid into the belt-tastic world of contemporary music. hollering from the big stage with all the instruments amped to the max. Performers' voices do give out, but it's pretty hideous when you get such severe events at age 18.

Reportedly, David A. had vocal paralysis rather than just beaten and bruised vocal cords, didn't he? The cause of that doesn't seem to be as easily determinable, apparently. Could be related to use of your voice or maybe not. Whereas Jordin's is clearly an overuse/wrong use issue.

The music execs and her parents ought to have been a lot more careful about this. I suppose her parents didn't really understand the issue, and once she got into the hands of the industry, it was just sing sing sing belt belt belt. So if her voice had any inherent weaknesses or she hadn't been trained to sing in the healthiest way (which she probably hadn't), she was at risk for this. Presumably now they'll find doctors and vocal coaches who'll focus on bringing her back to health and making sure she sings in a way that ensures she stays that way. ... On the other hand, doing that for real would probably take a big chunk of time away from her career right now, and will they be willing to let that happen?

I don't know. I'd kind of like that. Then if Blake was unable to appear, we'd get to hear Melinda.

That sucks! I hope she gets better.

Now they seem to be saying she'll be back in two to three weeks. I guess that's what they would say, given that they're counting on the Keys tour to build her audience. But I think that's likely to be way too soon for her long-term vocal health, since what she probably really needs is -- first, rest, and then a slow working back in plus retraining in how she's singing so that she is less at risk for this happening again. Two weeks then back on a major tour opening for a big star isn't going to accomplish that.

I hope her problem was extremely minor, because otherwise she's being handled quite unfairly and not for her long-term good, I'd say.

LilRedDevilLizzy - April 22, 2008 03:59 PM (GMT)
The NY Post has her on its front page and an article inside mentions that they think she'll be back in a few weeks, but experts weigh in and say she shouldn't even speak or cough until doctors give her permission.
the article also mentions that a similar malady almost ended Frank Sinatras career. He took a break from singing for almost three years and focused on movies before his voice was recovered enough.

I actually had a condition similar. I know I was in pain. Best wishes to her.
