Title: Sales This Week
Description: 40% Increase

vanbrew - April 23, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
From USA Today:

"Elliott got a 40% or so boost from appearing on Idol last week, jumping from 1,000 to 1,400 for a total of 505,000."

thank g.od for elliott!! - April 23, 2008 09:57 PM (GMT)
thank you AI!!! lol :hooray:

Nice spin on the increase. While I had hoped for more, it is pretty impressive that he's consistently selling basically off the success of WFY and the Idol appearance.

Idol doesn't really deliver the big boost unless you also have the song you sing getting radio play at the same time.

He should have similiar sales this week as the Idol boost usually lasts for a couple of weeks.

I have to honestly say I'm a little disappointed. Just by following the chart changes in Amazon and iTunes I was expecting sales to be a little higher than that. :(

jamie50 - April 23, 2008 10:10 PM (GMT)
Amazon sells way less albums than people think. David Cook had the #1 mp3 for sale on Amazon last week and sold 900 copies. Free had personal meaning but I don't see it as the kind of song that generates sales. Most people are too unfamiliar with it.

I'm surprised that people found 1400 copies to purchase.

My Target is sold out. But there are still plenty over at Best Buy.

I think people are really starting to have to scratch around.

It makes sense that perhaps the majority of sales are through on-line fulfillment.

Same here.

Everytime I check stores, there are either 1,2 (and they are basicly hidden) or NONE.

You can't buy what is not there.

Sk8888 - April 23, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
It's not a complaint. But, clearly there's no replenishment efforts anymore either.

I have no idea what the final number of CD's printed was, but I would like to know.

Elliott is still getting decent spins on WFY but the CD is hard to find. What is before them in the store is usually what they buy. I see plenty of the other American Idol artists, no Elliott, only in Target.

I was expecting more sales but I agree that it might be heard to find a copy of his cd. I wonder how many he has sold counting his overseas market?

Well, the press release about Fontana, the Universal group, hooking up with Pulse described Elliott's first album as "fast closing in on the platinum range" (not the real quote) or something like that , so maybe he's in the top half of the 600,000s somewhere by now?

The thing is, they have to decide carefully where they put their money and what they push, so a push on restocking, when there's nothing really out there to spur people to buy, probably wouldn't be on the agenda. ... After all, the recent AI appearance was completely unexpected.

I would think that, when they second album begins getting buzz and hopefully airplay, then they'll start keeping an eye open as to whether they should start a push on the first album too. If the second album takes hold, that'll drive sales of the first.

Really, it's great that he keeps selling around the 1000 mark when there's really nothing going on that makes people think to buy it.

Hope he takes off in Japan! I can really really see that happening, given Japanese musical tastes. That would boost international sales big time.

Flipboy5 - April 25, 2008 12:32 AM (GMT)
The album is never on the shelves. I'm sure the boost would have been bigger if it was actually stocked. Having said that, 40% is Fan-freaking-tastic!

Can't find his cd at Walmart either.

SoulMusicRocks - April 27, 2008 11:55 AM (GMT)
40% is nothing to sneeze at. I'm so proud of Elliott getting to where he is today both success wise and musically. Hopefully the sales of his debut album will go even higher with the release of the 2nd. I hear the distant sound of some new hit single by Eman!!!! wooooo.

ohioguy45780 - April 27, 2008 12:12 PM (GMT)
Target seems to be the best bet when it comes to finding his CD (it's apparent to me that their orders helped give him his "Gold" album). He has had healthy stock at the Targets I've been in. Wal-Mart and others never have more than 2 copies -- one Target had 13.

SoulMusicRocks - April 27, 2008 12:18 PM (GMT)
Good point, OG. Hopefully the distribution of his 2nd CD will be more equitable/solid across the variety of stores to maximize sales.

Target would move more of them too if it wasn't so expensive.
(what is it, like $14.98?) Plus, they don't have the bonus songs on it anymore, do they?

georgiafan1 - April 27, 2008 11:53 PM (GMT)
Being Indie, I think that Elliott's team decided that a price point of $12.98 - $14.98 would be best for retail. For every CD sold at Target and Best Buy, it was like selling 1 1/2 on iTunes. People bought them so it worked out for them. They did not have to pay to have as many CDs made to get the same amount of money.

I'm happy and amazed that Elliott's first CD has sold so well. :cheerleaders:

ITA Georgia. Let's hope for platinum for the next one! :)

durden - April 28, 2008 01:34 AM (GMT)
He got to 500K through the strength of 1 single. Imagine what 2 or 3 more hits could do. If the next album has three or four radio hits, we may be looking at platinum. :rocker:

jamie50 - April 30, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
This week's update via Idol Chatter

Elliott sold 1,000, down from 1,400; total 506,000.

jogr - April 30, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
I guess we will not get to 1000 K soon.
We need now a new single or a new CD.
Elliott give us a new song.
I want to start voting, requesting .... ...whatever is needed.

I'm right there with ya. Hopefully the sophomore album will be a resounding success that will beckon new fans to buy his original album. I'm keeping faith in his talent and direction as an artist. Can't wait!!!

PoorMe - May 1, 2008 03:24 AM (GMT)
Maybe when that Disneymania album comes out it will spur a few more sales of his debut album.

Millie858 - May 1, 2008 02:11 PM (GMT)
I bet a lot of the sales was prob digital. I usually buy albums off iTunes unless I want the cd itself.
