Title: Can I Ask You Something?
craxymonkey - May 11, 2008 02:11 AM (GMT)
I still can't complete an answer of why I love elliott.
I never ever liked an artist this much before, I just don't know what made me so addicted.
What made you love him or addicted to him? as in wanting more and more.
Is it the sexiness, humbleness, the voice, the whole package or what?
Also, what is your most favoritest quote from the man?
Thanks guys (:
Linda4Elliott - May 11, 2008 02:40 AM (GMT)
craxy, that's a tough question because part of it is so easy to answer and yet the answer is always too simplistic to fully explain the feelings...hahaha, does that even make sense?
The voice was the initial attraction. The humility and willingness to be his self, crying so openly in front of people. Working so hard on the show and since the show. Being so kind to everyone. Giving of his self not just to charities, but to his fans and people in general. Being funny and goofy. The voice, did I mention that?? LOL The voice slays me!!! There just aren't many people in this world like him.
And I knew this answer would fall short of what I feel, but it's hard to put into words. Language is not my strong suit.

Wow. I'm not a good at putting things like this into words but I'll try my best here. I think it really is hard to formulate a definite answer as to why we all love Elliott so much. Somehow, it's really hard to explain. This isn't the first time that I became a fan of an artist, but this is the first time that I became a really, really big fan of someone.
Honestly, it wasn't in American Idol that I first heard of Elliott. It was May 31st last year when I first heard him on the radio and I just melted...literally. And then the next thing I knew, I was spending hours on the internet searching, listening and reading about this guy that I had only heard from the radio. I guess it was his voice that initially pulled me to become a big fan. But as time went on, I realized that if I didn't know much about this guy, I wouldn't be as big of a fan as I am right now. It really is hard to explain. He just drives us to love him...more than words could describe.
My favorite quote from the man? It's hard to tell! Everything that comes from him is just pure sweetness and humility...for me it's hard to think of a favorite quote from him. I couldn't tell what it really is in him that just pulls us to love him more and more as we see and hear him. I think, for an artist to be successful and to be loved, the talent, which Elliott is so full of, is important, but the heart and kind of person of the artist should be there too. Elliott has the talent. Elliott has that VERY big heart. Elliott is just synonymous with every adjective with a positive meaning that I could think of. And I think what makes us love him is just because he is who he is and he is just the ordinary, yet VERY special person that we can all relate to and that is very easy to love. :elliottelliott:

I'll try to put it as short as I can, but it's kind of complicated. Most people here say,"It was the first time I heard his voice." But for me it wasn't like that - it wasn't until months later that I really noticed how good he was. I loved when he sang "I Believe To My Soul" in the Top 3 (and I had never heard the song before either) but it still hadn't hit me how good his voice is. When I heard him on tour with Chris Daughtry I thought he sounded good, but he hadn't become "great" with me yet.
It was when I was bored a few days after the tour and watched a tape of the Top 3 that I really heard Elliott's voice for the "first" time. And it was a performance most people on here don't even really talk about - "Open Arms". But for some reason that's what did it, I closed my eyes for a second and that's when it happened.
I've pretty much loved Elliott ever since, haha.
Gahh, I just realized I didn't mention his personality at all. If it wasn't for Elliott's personality I probably wouldn't be a fan of his. It takes more than a voice to make me like somebody. Elliott has got to be one of the nicest people ever - he was so genuine when I met him, not to mention how he just puts himself out there. Like how he cries in public - I guess I might have weird taste or something, but I love when guys show their emotions. He doesn't try to be anything, he's just himself, which is awesome.
Craxy gosh, you know I can't sum up everything I like about Elliott in a forum post. >:C

Craxy- I'm sure lots of people have read your question and are still trying to formulate a good answer. Having failed coming up with a great answer myself, I'll just say that ONE thing I love about Elliott is that he seems to make everyone else feel good about themselves. It's a truly remarkable person who can make others feel valued and loved.
idoletc - May 23, 2008 11:58 AM (GMT)
Momster, I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. Elliott has a way of making each person feel appreciated. He came upon this trait by way of his wonderful mother, Claudette. Both very remarkable human beings. But, of course, none of us could know that from the first time we seen Elliott. So, at first it had to be the voice, I guess. I remember on a results show Ryan showed a clip of Claudette and then said to Elliott, "We love your mom, she's really cool".I knew she had to be special because Ryan never said that about any of the other idols parents that I remember. Claudette said it correctly about Elliott, "He's such a good soul". He inherited that from his mother.

Very hard question, but here goes an attempt to answer. At first, it was simply support of a local boy. Elliott was more or less a neighborhood boy. Everyone in Richmond and especially the West End supported Elliott. My older son, who went to high school with Elliott, began to tell me stories of what a hard time Elliott had as a teenager , includng some of the bad choices Elliott made and that coupled with his average looks, lack of formal training, etc made me like him more. Rooting for the underdog. Next came an appreciation for his truly great voice. It's the type of voice that is timeless and beautiful. Just enough growl, always in key and very soothing. Then, I began to hear stories about how he used his opportunity for good. Elliott acknolwedges that he wasn't always the man he is now. It takes real character to admit your mistakes and change the way you live your life. Elliott has most certainly done that. Always nice, lending his name to charity and of course being grateful, humble and appreciative of his fans. You just don't hear any negative press about Elliott. What a refreshing change from the way so many musicians behave. So, I am and will always be a hugh Elliott Yamin fan and will support him in any way I can. That voice, OMG who could ever resist that voice!

Why do I love Elliott? I think I took a little bit of a different route. As much as I enjoyed him on Idol and was disappointed when he was voted off, it wasn't until after that that I really fell for him. I remember wondering what was up with him in January 2007 and after looking on the internet for news I thought that I'd check out some of his performances. Believe it or not, the one that really got to me was Savin' Me - he hit some notes that made me feel the music in a way I never had before. I think it was the sheer rawness of his voice - I hadn't heard that on Idol. Then I heard ILYMTYEK from the State Fair and to this day I can't listen to it without feeling his voice from the bottom of my spine right up into my brain - it feels like an electric charge.
But for me the icing on the cake was when he started doing all the radio interviews for Wait for You. Besides singing the song so beautifully acoustically, I felt like I got to hear who he actually was - not as a contestant in a reality show, but as his own self. He made me laugh out loud (I love a man who can do that), he made me think and he so impressed me as to what a genuine person he seemed to be. Like Momster, I love the fact that he seems to make everybody he comes into contact with happy. When I watch him perform or see him interviewed, I'm in awe at the sheer joy not only on the peoples' faces around him, but also on his. As much as I wonder about Paula sometimes, she got him from the first moment she saw him sing and the joy on her face whenever he performs is how I feel whenever I see him.
I've heard him say that he really doesn't consider himself a role model, but anybody who can acknowledge that they weren't on a good path through life and take it and turn it around so completely deserves every good thing that comes their way. I wish there were more people like Elliott in the world - I think it would be a much better place.

It's is voice like no other.

One of the major reasons that I started to admire Elliott is his raw natural talent and ability to absorb music for its complete texture. There are plenty of singers in the music world that present a product rather than tell their story with honesty and a genuine effort. We are bombarded every other week with the same canned mediocrity that serves a single purpose of generating as much money as possible with no regard for the people that support it to begin with.
With Elliott there isn't a transparent plan, there is no obnoxious marketing ploy. He's not slathered in designer clothes recklessly pimping any product that will give him money to promote them. He's an artist that is doing what he is meant to do. Heart and Soul is not something that can be created by a team of marketing reps at a record label, you either are in tune with it or you're not. Elliott has one of the biggest hearts accented by the most genuine soul that I have seen in a long time.
He has shown his vulnerability on numerous occasions without fear of what it will do to some fabricated "image". He is who he is, you can not only hear it but feel it in his music. That is what an artist is to me and what will secure is spot as a future legend. Anyone can be taught to sing, but not everyone can sing honestly. His lack of ego is what enables him to sing from the heart and make every single person watching him perform as though he is singing to them, and including them on his journey.
As far as how he is personally, I imagine that he exemplifies integrity, respect, and compassion just as it comes through in his music. I'll take his character and talent over a formulaic drone any day. The sky is the limit, its just up to him to see how far it goes.
