Title: New Elliott Interview - Wdvd
Description: video blog, song clips "coming soon"
durden - May 23, 2008 10:47 AM (GMT)
(Apologies if this has been posted already)
E recently did an interview with WDVD
http://rope.963wdvd.com/IdolsWed/yamin.mp3I got it from Yaminions.com
Basically:
Elliott talks about his new album. Says they're trying to get it out by Fall. He's been working with all the people he's wanted to work with. And the best part is that he said we will be getting a Q&A video blog plus new song clips "very soon"!
shatner8 - May 23, 2008 10:59 AM (GMT)
Great interview, Elliott sounding confident, and the mention of E train :hooray:
cannot wait for the clips and video, and glad he is doing more r/b this time around
itslate - May 23, 2008 11:42 AM (GMT)
Thanks Durden. I was wondering about the Q&A just this morning. :)
eta: do you know where and when this was taped? The station is from Detroit.. but was he there?
GypsyNFla - May 23, 2008 11:49 AM (GMT)
If he's working with Harvey Mason, Jr. and the Underdogs, I'm really looking forward to what's going to be on his CD.

Hooray for this (from the MTV article):
"And they bring artists custom material only, meaning there's no vault of unrecorded songs they pass around. "When Monday comes around, we start writing the song for the person [coming in that week]," Thomas said."
And here's a link to Midi Mafia stuff:
Midi Mafia sound clipsGreat interview. Can hardly wait to hear the new stuff.

me too!! There are a lot of songs from The Underdogs that I love!!
JackieB - May 23, 2008 01:48 PM (GMT)
I loved this interview. So cute with his Lakers "we" "us" stuff. Sounds like me with "my" Bears.
So, can anyone explain what happened? He was in Japan on the 2oth, (would that be the 19th here?) then flew home and now has to return for the events scheduled for the 27th? Jeepers - too much time in an airplane!
harleywoman - May 23, 2008 02:05 PM (GMT)
Darn it, can't listen to it at work. Have to wait until home, getting so tired of that but what can you do. LOL
ohioguy45780 - May 23, 2008 02:08 PM (GMT)
looks like he's lining up majors behind himagain...Stargate, Harvey Mason, The Underdogs, James Dupri, Janet(?). Throw in Quincy Jones and he'd have a trifecta of producer power there.
KatfanBill - May 23, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
Interesting that he is talking about working with the Underdogs. The connection between Kat and he gets stronger. She did 3 songs with them for her first CD. Do What You Do, from the CD, I Lost You from the Walmart single which was supposed to be their "Bonus Track" and Let Me Know Your Name that never got released but you can hear part of it on her EPK.
Can't wait to hear the samples and I hope we hear more "Movin On" and less "One Word". personally.

I was actually wondering about that, because when I checked out The Underdogs, it looks like they've worked with a few other Idols, including Kat, Jordin and Fantasia, I think.

and Ruben and Mario Vasquez not to mention the Dreamgirls soundtrack which featured JHUD. I wouldn't be surprised if they worked with her (JHUD) on her debut. It wasn't just Kat.
I Love Elliott - May 23, 2008 03:32 PM (GMT)
So great to hear his voice!!!
He sounds really rested and upbeat.
Funny he didn't mention Dianne Warren.
Possibly a "first of the year" release....
(Elliott........say it ain't so....)
Hopefully he will crank that thing up and get it out by fall!!!
Hmmm....David Cook and "Take My Breath Away". I would like to hear that!
That sweet boy....he keeps promoting the E-TRAIN!!!!!!!
Gotta love him. :awe:

So that would have been on Tuesday night, when the David's sang. No glimpses of Elliott in the audience? I'm sure someone would have caught it, if the camera was anywhere near him :). Then I'm guessing he headed out to Japan right after. Does that sound right? (I missed when he left for Japan).
eta: the file was named idol wednesday... but I guess it could have been taped on Tuesday to be played on the station on Wednesday.

What a wonderful, informative, fun interview! I guess I'll need to learn more about basketball (I do like basketball, but the men in my life actually don't watch it much - I think I prefer it to football). Thank you, thank you for the link. Can't wait for all that's coming up - I'm so ready for more, more, more of Elliott.

Nobody in the world, can sing ANY song as well as Elliott!!!

Exactly. (especially the sentiment expressed by the non-smiley smiley). I loved/hated it when Elliott said in the interview -- Of course, nobody knows that song. (or something like that.).
Nobody knows *any* of Elliott's amazing songs except Wait for You, not TMBA or the everybody-who-hears-it -loves-it Trainwreck or Movin' On, as KatFanBill mentioned above.
That's the strange thing about the music industry. Lots and lots of albums and songs "don't sell." But it's hard to imagine that some of these *wouldn't* sell if anybody ever heard them! It's certainly happened with Elliott and his Idol buddies, but it happens to lots of people. Carly Hennessy-Smithson's first cd is wonderful, in my opinion -- but it dropped like a rock, making Elliott's, Katharine's, and Blake's sales look extremely high. And even people who've formerly had big sales, like Kelly C. My December has a lot of *great* stuff on it, in my opinion -- but ... doesn't sell. I swear, if anybody had a chance to hear this stuff, it would sell.
Just so strange. Songs are either played so often that they become earworms -- and then they get a lot of sales -- or they're simply never played, ever, at all. What an odd system.
And we're about to go through it all again with E's sophomore album, I suppose.

Oh, I know you didn't mean DC could do it better than Elliott. Just venting at the idea of one of the best songs on the CD being sung by someone other than Elliott. Let's face it - he can make crappy songs sound like magic, so IMO, they (whomever that is) should have taken advantage of one of the really great songs on that album. (Like TMBA or TW or MO)
JackieB - May 23, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
Applesauce, that line you mentioned about him saying "nobody knows that song" lit me right up, too. Those who love him know the song, and those who don't, would if they ever heard the darn thing!

It just killed me that he sounded kind of regretful when he said it -- as of course he should be. It's awful that Elliott (as well as others) has to feel this way about wonderful songs!

Okay guys, since I can't download the interview where I am, can you tell me the connection between David Cook and Take My Breath Away because I'm totally confused.
Boo, I can't hear the interview.
JackieB - May 23, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
When asked what song he would select for David Cook to sing, he was thinking about it when one of the DJs said it could be from his own album, if he felt like giving it a plug. Elliott said that he actually thought that of the songs on his album, David Cook could pull off Take My Breath Away. I'm sure he could. But no where near the way Elliott Yamin pulls off Take My Breath Away.
jamie50 - May 23, 2008 11:54 PM (GMT)
Thank you. I was actually able to go to the station site and listen to the podcast. Very cool to hear E's voice and hear he's a fan of both Davids.
Lots of cool stuff coming up. I agree that nobody could do that song like E though. I've been reading lots of stuff about AI this season and I'm amazed how many time Elliott's name comes up.
Even when Slezak reviewed the finale for EW, the only past Idol he mentioned was Elliott. It's fun to see so much recognition two years after his season.
artymom - May 24, 2008 12:06 AM (GMT)
YTMBA is one of my favs from the CD too. I don't know much about the music industry but it seems that launching any single is a major undertaking. Remember all those radio interviews and acoustic singing he did to promote WFY? He must have been on every major station between the East Coast and California! As an Indie he does not have the huge machine of a major label steamrolling the staions into playing his songs.
I'm guessing TPTB in Elliott's music life then decided OW was going to be the next big thing and never looked back. Oh well. By the time it was clear that it was NOT going to be the hit WFY was, it was time for Elliott to go back to the studio to produce another CD. That window of opportunity for a tune to be a hit is pretty small and fleeting.
I can't wait for the new CD though. Now that Elliott has some street cred and is hooking up with some biggies in the music world, it should be even easier to promote. We know WE will love it!
Loved hearing Elliott give ETrain a shout out!

Awww, thank you. That's a very sweet thing to say. It was taken Mother's Day 1968. I know this only because she was meticulous about writing info on the back of photos or labeling them in albums. I wanted to use it just for a Mother's Day siggy, but I have had a heck of a time taking it down.
