i guess it truly isnt that bad, since the album has been out for 1 year and 3 months!

I look at any uptick as a real positive! And he got an uptick without any visible pr that I can see -- so that seems to indicate a certain kind lasting interest in him, doesn't it? ...

Or maybe it's a delayed reaction from the Wait for You appearance on So You Think You Can Dance? I heard Wait for You when I was in TJ Maxx the other day, too -- wonder if it's being played in more different stores these days or something?

To me, it says something that, after well over a year, he's selling as many in a week as Kelly C's latest album. Even though that album got -- very very undeserved, in y opinion -- bad press, she's still Kelly Clarkson.

I have checked my Target and WalMart and they have NO Elliott Yamin CDs. Lots of Daughtry and Kellie Pickler, but no Elliott !

Argh! How annoying. Hard to believe he wouldn't sell more if more cds were sitting out there.

I heard WFY on New York's WPLJ the other day. I was surprised, cause they were big holdouts back when!Oh wait,LOL!!! He made me forget to get a toll ticket, can you imagine????!!!
I often hear it on the new york lite fm stations :chloe: :chloe: :chloe:

Wow, that sounds pretty good!

And according to this chart

Billboard Japan Hot 100

the single is still at #21 over there, along with only a few other Western artists, all big names.

Chugging right along in Japan, looks like.

Elliott singing Easy Lover . Elliott can sing anything and make it more.

Elliott's voice is just what I love. Perfection.

Total sales (as of 6/15) for the album in Japan is 65,492. Gold in Japan is 100,000 so he's got a good shot at it. Three more weeks at the current sales rate and he's there. The linked chart shows the album as #3 on their chart for all Western artists. He's sold more albums in Japan than Usher.
He's doing really well.

Imagine if he got the same amount of promotion in Japan as he did in the US (because, as I understand it, he has a major label backing him up in Japan). His album could have gone platinum easily.

But I do think it's great that he's still selling. And the fact that E's selling as much as My December (considering it's Kelly, and the fact that her album is much younger by a few months) is very impressive.

:hooray: This is all great news!!. I'd never heard his rendition of "Easy Lover". His voice is like no other. You never get his voice mixed up with someone else. Love him!! :awe:

happyandmissy - June 21, 2008 02:44 AM (GMT)
Such good news. I heard Wait for You in the airport not long ago and started jumping up and down like a kid.

I've been thinking about how great it was last July 4th when Elliott was on the Captol Fourth show. I wish tht would happen again.

I'm so new at posting, so if I mess up, please forgive me. I finally got onto the AI boards, and I've been replying to everything I can that can give Elliott a boost. On some of my replies to subjects like "who was the most talented idol ever" I type that people should go to YouTube and type in A Whiter Shade of Pale and scroll down until they find Elliott's slideshow. Some of the replies indicate people were really liking it.

Now I'm thinking that most of this post should be in another thread. Sorry. My hubby and I have been Elliott fans since the first time we heard him sing in the auditions.

I bought Elliott's CD for $6.00 a few weeks ago and another one today for $4.50. Now I have a first-hand experience why number shipped is more important than the Soundscan numbers.

We have this chain of stores that buys entire inventories of a store, mostly from insurance companies but sometimes when there is a buyout such as CVS buying Eckerd's and restocking completely. Usually the discount starts at 30% and every 3 to 4 weeks increases by another 10%. A few months ago my local store had stock from Best Buy starting at 30% off. I tried to find Elliott's CD but the task of looking through those thousands upon thousands of CDs was too daunting. I would go in every 3 or weeks in the hope that as the stock dwindled I would have better luck. When the discount got up to 60% I pretty much gave up and starting selecting some other CDs (Jordin's for one--I like it). I glanced down and right in front of me was Elliott's CD. The stock is now down to a few tables at 70% off and, lucky me, I found another one today for $4.50.

So I'll just add 2 to any Soundscan numbers I see from now on. :)

Sk8888 - June 25, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
That's interesting O4E.

I wonder if the sale of the CD's from the original store to the discounter is how the sales numbers are being arrived at?

Funny, I thought Amazon would be buying up the inventory that is still floating around.

When I think back to all the stores that had Elliott's CD, I recall not liking how Best Buy organized its CD's, and complaining that FYE's price was way too high. (Around $18 -$22.)

I have no clue how distribution works in these situations, but if FYE could be avoided as a distribution point the next time around, I doubt it would hurt sales. Take all the CD's that went to FYE and get them in Target's and Walmarts.

onlyforelliott - June 25, 2008 01:08 AM (GMT)
SK,

In cases like these, I'm pretty sure that the only thing that gets counted is the sale of the CD to the retail store like Best Buy. The two CDs I have will never show up in SoundScan. Technically, the store I described is a salvage store and keeps no records of inventory. It's a wonder the cashier even knows what percentage to take off as they keep the price sticker from the original store and sometimes they have as many as 3 grocery stocks or drugstore stocks at different percentages at the same time.

I didn't realize until I went to put the CD away, that the two CDs I bought are probably different pressings. The one I bought a few weeks ago had a price of $13.99 on it. The one I bought today had a price of $14.99 on it and that little corner sticker that said "Movin' On and Wait For You along with Elliott's Myspace address.

Of course this has me wondering how many CDs fall through the cracks like this. I imagine the percentage is rather small but until this got me thinking more about it, I always assumed that the difference between units shipped and units sold would be equal to the number still on store shelves.

O4E,

I agree that your purchase of Elliott's CD at the discount store doesn't count at all.

What I was wondering aloud was whether the sale from Best Buy to the discounter is considered a sale by SoundScan standards?

Somebody that knows more about how sales are handled than I do may be able to give a better answer but I think that those albums (and there were probably 3000-5000 at the beginning including all of the best selling albums like Daughtry (probably 20 copies) Carrie (probably even more than 20) ) were just packed straight from the shelf to a truck.

Fortunately Elliott and the others were already paid for the albums before they were shipped to the salvage store and the units will count toward RIAA certification but not Soundscan.

Sales this week are back to 500, according to Idol Chatter. Was the uptick last week because people were buying for Father's Day??

Sk8888 - June 25, 2008 07:53 PM (GMT)
Good possibility.

Could also be graduation presents. I also wonder how many DJ's or brides to be are buying the CD looking to add a song or two to a reception music mix?

Just found info about One Word sales on Ken Barnes' blog:

"Idolmc88 asked about sales totals for a few tracks. Elliott's One Word has sold 34,000, Taylor's Heaven Knows is at 11,000 and Taylor's The Right Place has sold 5,000."

and:

I bet if One Word got more airplay it would have been a huge hit... too bad most radio stations did not play it... it is a great song. Thanks for the information Jogr!!

I wonder what WFY's total was? Should someone e-mail Ken Barnes?
I think it was at least 900K; it was a shame it never made platinum.

jamie50 - July 17, 2008 12:42 PM (GMT)
Someone here was able to access the download sales of WFY (single) on Japanese charts. Can they tell me how to do? I can't figure it out but the number was around 17,000 downloads last week. I'd like to know what the numbers are for this week.

I think if the US and Japanese downloads for the single were combined, the song has def gone platinum.

If only they had released the single earlier and with the front page deal on Itunes . . . it would have been platinum for sure.
