The C Elliott Project was featured on Clear Channel NEW! next to Amy Winehouse, Elliott Yamin, Colbie Caillat and LCD Soundsystem! The feature ran from July 24 through July 31. As a result, Chasing the Wind (Angel) moved up the charts dramatically from 500 to number 39 during the run. Nice buzz.

Possessing arguably the best male voice in American Idol history, season five’s third place contestant Elliott Yamin comes out firing on all cylinders, showing off that powerful voice the country came to love. Yamin proves he can do gospel and jazz just as well as contemporary R&B and traditional pop, all while sounding as if he is enjoying every second of his newfound stardom.
Doing It His Way

Somewhat surprisingly, it took Elliott Yamin much longer to find a record deal than fellow American Idol finalists Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks. Eventually Yamin signed with a small independent label, Hickory Records, giving him less immediate cash, but a great deal of musical freedom to make just the type of album he wants. Music fans should rejoice in this as Elliott Yamin has pieced together a set that is stylish and contemporary, yet never tries to sound like every other song on the radio.
He's a Soul Man

Elliott Yamin brings the heat from the start. The disc kicks off with jazzy lead single “Movin’ On” with the crooner showing off his vocal acrobatics, seamlessly bouncing from word-to-word and throwing down a very catchy chorus. “Train Wreck” is a solid old school soul throwback, while piano ballads “Wait For You” and “Your Are The One” keep production simple with Yamin’s sandpapery vocals at the forefront. It is clear that the newcomer has put his heart into the album as his passion for each lyric shines throughout.

Although Yamin’s vocal charisma is enough to carry most of the tunes on his debut, several tracks suffer from rather stale songwriting. This is especially evident on the socially conscious “Find A Way,” where his anti-war declaration is not likely to win anyone new over to the concept of world peace.
A Deserving Idol

Whether it is his transcendent vocal on the choir-backed “Free” or his show- stopping cover of Leon Russel’s “A Song For You,” Elliott Yamin proves on his debut album that he is one of the most talented recording artists American Idol has produced. The vocal hybrid of Donny Hathaway and a raspy Michael Buble, Yamin has created a disc that could put him in the early running as one of the year’s top new artists. Although he took third place in season 5 of America’s favorite talent show, he easily beats out those who placed above him for best first album.

Heehee - I remember this morning! It was announced that whatever song he sang next was going to be the new single. I quickly called directory assistance for the number of the coffee shop in DC and tried to get some poor barista in trouble by having her give me the name of the song he was singing at that very moment. She seemed like she was going to tell me, then had to ask a manager who put the nix on it.

New Kellie single jumps on download chart

The Idol quotient on the Digital Songs top 200 went up this week, with the addition of Kellie's Don't You Know You're Beautiful. Here are the chartmakers, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Jordin's No Air leads, but drops 20-26 on the chart, selling 48,000, down 16%, for a total of 2.17 million. One Step at a Time got the boost it needed, jumping 105-58 thanks to a 76% sales increase to 25,000, for a total of 152,000. Tattoo drops 128-142, selling 10%, down 7%, for a total of 1.70 million.

David C.'s The Time of My Life is down 39-45, selling 31,000, off 12%, for a total of 589,000.

Carrie's Last Name falls 42-48, selling 29,000, down 11%, for a total of 368,000. All-American Girl is off 76-91, selling 17,000, a 5% decline, for a total of 629,000. And Before He Cheats drops 139-149, selling a bit under 10,000, a 2% drop, for a total of 2.39 million.

And Kellie's song comes onto the chart at 79, selling 19,000.

A few info requests: Ghostwriter has persistently and patiently asked for download figures for Ruben's Season 7 send-off song, Celebrate Me Home. It never had much to celebrate, having amassed a total of 7,000 downloads.

Can't read my handwriting (common problem), but it looks something like phoenixm1 who asked for numbers on Jordin's Freeze -- it has sold 15,000 to date, which will increase if it becomes a single, of course.

And eaglesfan07 had a few Katharine download songs in question. Answers:

Love Story: 77,000

O Come All Ye Faithful: 19,000

Real Love (duet with Elliott): 8,000.

Like so many seasons of Idol, my favorite often gets kicked out around 3rd or 4th place. So was the case with Elliot Yamin, who sang in this "While Boy with Soul" style, and yet did it more convincingly than Taylor Hicks, who went on to outlast him and win season 5. I think the big problem with Elliot was that he was a nice guy with a good voice, but his personality didn't extend beyond his jacked-up teeth. So competing against Taylor "I'm wild and crazy, look at me!" Hicks and Kat "I'm pretty! With gams!" McPhee, it was easy for Elliot to get lost in the shuffle. But where Taylor and Kat's performances often were more about how they shook or what they wore, Elliot just sang, and he did it amazingly.
