Title: Randy, Taylor And Kat On Elliott
Description: On Larry King
bertha508 - May 27, 2006 01:38 AM (GMT)
Boy, Randy is loving some Elliott! Even Kat said "I've never heard a throat like that." Then, to my surprise, Taylor starts going on about Elliott lack of stage experience. What the hell? Didn't Taylor JUST win yesterday? If he was such an expert at stage presence, why did it take AI to make him a big name? I'm not talking about him, but that kind of took me by surprise. I'm starting to think that maybe Kat's not so bad after all.

Taylor was the one that said "never heard a throat like that".

i believe they meant it as a compliment, as in they can't believe how good he is considering his lack of stage experience.

I'm sure that's what Tay Tay meant :)

I concur. Taylor didn't say anything even remotely insulting.

I'm sure Taylor didn't mean any offense to Elliott. I have to admit to really liking what Kat said about him, though. She was pretty much gushing over his voice, and said something about how Elliott would say "My voice is a mess", and then he'd sing just fine. She said even if his voice was a little raspy, it worked for him.
She was very comfortable in the interview; moreso than Taylor was. I remember reading something about Taylor being completely different off the stage and that he comes alive on stage. I think we saw that tonight ... he was much quieter and serious.
I kept thinking while watching them that it should have been Elliott at that table. :(
KidRock - May 27, 2006 04:02 AM (GMT)
I don't think Taylor meant that mean at all!!! Taylor loves Elliott.

Transcript excerpt
SEACREST: What is your take on Elliott Yamin, other contestants like Elliott?
HICKS: I haven't heard a voice, a throat like that in a long, long time. And, you know, I think he's got a little bit more growing to do as a stage performer. And I see him succeeding in recorded music.
MCPHEE: I agree. Though definitely right a way, when I first heard him sing, I was like, this guy has an incredible voice. Just -- and so much control with his voice. And he just does these like -- he always is talking and like yelling and stuff like that. And it doesn't matter, he's like, man, my voice is messed up. And then he goes up there, and he's like still amazing. It doesn't matter if it has that like kind of raspy thing because it works with his voice.
SEACREST: We called him then underdog, Randy.
JACKSON: Definitely the underdog.
SEACREST: Probably the most improved too.
JACKSON: Yes, I mean, listen, we loved his voice from day one. I mean, you know, the night of the final, when he sang "House is Not a Home," we were like, whoa, God. I mean, you know, for a second, I thought it was Ruben singing it because Ruben has got that whole like thing. But listen, Elliott can definitely sing. He has a good future for himself.
HICKS: In my opinion, this show did wonders for Elliott. I mean, the "American Idol" idea in my opinion takes somebody like Elliott from a vocal talent, and this show did what it was supposed to do with Elliot. It created Elliott with a beautiful talent, and it caressed it, it nurtured it all the way through. And now he is a better performer for it.
SEACREST: I think it did a lot for him personally as well. Well, seriously I really do.
HICKS: His story is amazing.
SEACREST: His story is amazing. His relationship with his mother was a beautiful thing.
JACKSON: It really did. And I think we all loved him just because he has got such a big heart, and he is such a humble compassionate kid. And really he's right, Taylor's right. The show initially was about -- it is the rocky story set to music. It's the one that you would never imagine that just grows.
I mean, you know, people were talking about God, his hair. I meet people out and they are talking about women. And they are saying oh my God, I need to get with him, whatever. And I am like whoa, this is really turning around.

Watched the program. It repeats @ 3 am eastern time.
:furious:
I thought Taylor was very condescending to Elliott! Elliott could sing better during auditions than Taylor will ever sing! Taylor talking about Elliott "growing", "this contest" was made for E! What the heck was he before AI! They were all unknowns!
He did not one time say that he loved E and they were friends! You can bet your sweet blippie Elliott would have said they were close! I could not believe that Katherine was more complimentary to E than Taylor! She was!
No need to tell me how much Taylor loves Elliott, I don't buy it!
Taylor & Katherine need to get over themselves! I am! Kat & Taylor need a little PR help before they make any more appearances.

Thanks for posting. I have to agree with Randy about E's fabulous rendition of a House It Not a Home. I think it was E's best vocal to date, and I love love love everything he has sung.
pammohr - May 27, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)
Some of you in here are jumping to conclusions! Taylor really admires E. He was talking about the fact that you can take someone out of obscurity and watch them grow and about his growing talent. Someone as good as E is a "work in progress." I believe the show is kicking themselves now for letting him slip through their fingers.
Lookin4Trouble - May 27, 2006 04:43 PM (GMT)
Taylor said complimentary things about Elliott. The truth is Elliott has grown from this experience. He didn't have "stage" experience. This show did nurture that in him and teach him that. After the tour, he will be even more honed on his performing skills. I noticed that with all of the idols last year. They all just looked more and more seasoned after touring.
Taylor was speaking of Elliott's talent. They didn't ask him about their relationship to one another. So he appropriately addressed the question. I did not take it as a slam at all and I sensed that he is in awe of his raw talent.
emren - May 27, 2006 04:50 PM (GMT)
I think Taylor is a level, stand up guy and I totally get his point. Elliott describes HIMSELF as directionless before AI, having a desire but not a path. Also, do you think AI was the first time he'd taken hits for his 'appearance'?
Elliott's initial lack of 'presence' stemmed from the uncertain young man within - as that man within grew in confidence as his talent was affirmed, his outer presentation of himself lit up more and more. All that was enhanced and fed by the stylistic changes.
That is what Taylor and many of us saw, and it's all good.
elliottbabe - May 27, 2006 10:07 PM (GMT)
just in case anyone is wondering why elliott was so glaringly absent on the ET show
on friday eve......he had a VERY IMPORTANT BUSINESS MEETING AND DINNER with some major recording people.............and he chose to take care of business, rather than appear on the show....because there is so little time before the idol tour begins. what this brings to mind, is that elliotts final song on the tuesday nite idol show..... i believe it to my soul...... now has a "special message" to the idiots-in-charge............the words are sooooo great.......soon you'll be looking for me, and i'll be gone.......our man....elliott yamin....is destined to reach great heights, not only as a recording star, but as a human being...HE IS SUCH A MENSCH.
and i ought to be ashamed of myself. a grown and mature woman, getting gushy and silly and starry eyed over elliott.....i just love him to pieces....so there
p.s. the info above comes from the yaminmachine website

Exactly! I thought the same thing too, I didn' t take what Taylor said as an insult at all but total compliments.
The show did help Elliott grow in stage presence. You could tell each week he was growing more and more comfortable being on the stage and coming into his own. They're right this show is for raw talent like Elliotts to get them more seasoned and comfortable singing on the stage.
Just think, Elliott didn't have extensive training like Kat did and Taylor had more experience due to him singing with a band etc...so for Elliott to come in and do what he did, made them his competitors sit up and take notice. :) It's all good.
I was very impressed (for once) with what Kat said about him as well.
eiregal - May 28, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
I was, like, also like, impressed with what Kat, like, said. Like, I really do like, believe, that she was like, genuinely complimenting him, like.
