Title: What's Up With These Boards?
Description: Should E's fam/friends be involved?

France - May 27, 2006 07:23 PM (GMT)
I mean no disrespect whatsoever, however, I think that E's family/friends, and especially girlfriend becoming involved in these and the AI message boards was a huge mistake. I'm not talking specifically just about the Thudalicious thread - mainly because I don't know too much about it, but threads are just becoming locked with no explanation and posters are being censored.

If there are children that come here, then maybe the parents should think twice about it (I personally don't know why children would be inside surfing the net when they could be outside playing or in school learning something). Regarldess, the point is if this is a kid friendly site, it should have been posted somewhere prior to the posters being told it was OK to swear and to even "kat bash".

I appreciate all of the hard work and effort that went into bringing E's fans together on these boards. And I really appreciate the updates that we've been given from E's family & friends, but I think it has caused more "controversy" (for lack of a better word). I have to admit that I'm really not into these boards much anymore (which I'm sure doesn't affect anyone), but I think it sucks because I was looking forward to talking with other Elliott fans.

This board would not exist without the involvement of his family/friends. Nor would any of the information we have be here. I'm not even sure what your complaint here is but it's being moved to the correct forum.

Thanks for putting it in its proper location - I actually didn't see this section (not sure how I missed it). Sorry you don't understand what I'm saying. I'm not sure how else to put it.

Trust me, there are children that are on the computer all day long. The new generation is all about technology. And, some of these children are on the computer when their parents are gone. So, while it is ideal that their parents monitor their web-surfing, unless they put locks on certain sites, they'll be able to see it all.

I'm not saying that they aren't online. However, it's not my responsibility to make sure I censor myself in the name of being kid-friendly. If this is a kid-friendly site, that's fine, but it needs to be noted (it was stated when I first came on here that it was OK to swear & to "kat bash").

It's like everyone has to take things so seriously these days... I don't see what the big deal is. But whatever, I don't own this board so it really isn't my choice.

But when it comes down to it, everyone is getting really rude about recent events. It's not making the forums fun anymore.

I'm sorry if I'm causing a problem. I have just been getting frustrated these past few days, so I just wanted to post my opinion. I wasn't even involved in the thudalicious thread (that I know of), yet that combined with locking other threads, people becoming offended, etc, I thought it was all becoming ridiculous. And I want to clarify that I have no problem being "kid-friendly" but it just wasn't something I thought I had to be attentive to here.

Rude about recent events? Example?? I haven't seen anyone be rude. :(

As for the thud thread, please be clear. I did NOT intend to delete the entire thing but was attempting to clean it up because we cannot control who reads this board. Children, Elliott's family, people from all walks of life and religion read this board now. Have you seen how many members we have in just over a week? We have to make this board acceptable for ALL people to view it. If you want to get crude on the E talk.... there is a chat room you can hang out in to do that kind of thing.

We aren't trying to ruin anyone's fun but try to remember the exposure a site like this is getting and will be getting as we gain more fans, users and media exposure. Thanks guys! :hello:

I, for one, am extremely grateful to the folks who have put this board together. It came up fast, complete and professional - and it takes a lot to impress me - but this did. Every board has to have moderators to let us know when we step over the line - because we are human and we will do it every time.

Who decides what is over the line? Well that's why we have to trust mods, but for us to start - we should be thinking about how we represent Elliott. It has been said over and over that he is a class act, and we shouldn't be anything less.

Yea, see maybe this is where I'm not on the same page as everyone else. I'm a fan of Elliott; he has a great voice and appears to be a nice guy. I don't know Elliott, so how could I possibly represent him? And because I don't know Elliott, I don't strive to be like him. I am positive that Elliott himself is not perfect, but I think that sometimes people become so star-struck that they fail to recognize that (this is just a general statement). I'm not trying to represent this guy; I'm just trying to buy his CD and find other people who enjoy his music. That's all.

My sentiments exactly!!A little class never hurt anyone. You can use the Chat room as listed above.

France,

I think I understand what you're trying to say. I think we all felt relieved to leave the AI boards. The freedom we first felt here was very liberating. But with freedom comes responsibility.

I'm in my forties and while I can act like quite the little kid myself, I also like to think of myself as an adult. The one thing I don't care for here is the occasional feeling that I'm being admonished like a child. I choose to be here, so I have to assume responsibility for my behavior; no one else can do it for me and I'd rather they didn't, frankly.

Every single person is HUMAN which means we are not perfect nor will we ever be. What I'm trying to do now is think of what would I do if this were my brother's board and I knew my family and friends were checking in just to be a part of this experience. I, too, have wondered how involved friends and family should be with a fan site, but yamingirl is right: this wouldn't even exist without their involvement and then we would be stuck over there on those other boards. eek!

I'm hoping everything will calm down soon and we can continue to have fun and extol the virtues of E....PG-rated of course! Ok, I'm done rambling. :peace:

Yea, you're right. It is frustrating, but I guess I need to look at from a different perspective. Thanks. :hello:
