Title: Can We Have An Adults Only Forum?
Description: No, it's not for porn, silly!
ILoveJay - May 29, 2006 01:39 AM (GMT)
I totally understand why the original Thudalicious thread was modified because there could be kids around reading it. But it would be cool if there was a forum (access through mod approval) wherein people could be a littler more free. Peeps can cuss a little more, and talk more risque, but definitely NOTHING porno or too disgusting. Maybe like an NC17 instead of a PG13.
I see some boards do this wherein they show proof they are over 18 (through previous post, etc).
Just a suggestion.

NC17 instead of pg-13?! That's kinda a big jump.. I think NC17 is pretty close to porn..
maybe R instead of PG13...

R rated is not the same as NC17? Then if it isn't, then R Rated then. Porn on this thread is creepy.

Does it even have to have a rating once it's adults only?
And I don't mean that then there should be porn type of content, I just mean it can be only for adults so that swearing, for example, would be allowed.

I totally understand the need to moderate, but i just wanted to express a bit of concern over several threads i have read that say "kids read the site"....as a parent, i dont feel it is other people's responsiblity to moderate what my kids read. I MONITOR their usage, and it would be a bit hard to go thru life posting on the internet with the thought that some eight year old may read it. People need to take responsilibty for their what their kids see online.
That being said, I DO understand the need to moderate tho. Somethings should be removed. It is just a fine line between a dictatorship/censorship and free speech i guess. I would NEVER be so inclined to post ANYTHING that would disrespect Elliott, Amanda or his mother.
I am a member of a totally UNMODERATED site (not affiliated with E, a totally different Discussion Board), and was chewed out one day while in chat by a woman who said her child logged into it while she was doing something else. I took great offense to that and told her she needs to monitor her child in chatrooms, not the members of that site. I enjoy that particular site because it is unmoderated, but you can bet your sweet tootsie my kids wont be allowed in that room.
If something is blatantly disrespectful to Elliott then yes, it should be deleted. But just general discussions that are not totally agreed upon by everyone should stay, JMHO. Discussion boards are for discussions. We dont have to agree with everybody. But since it is an Elliott Fan site, he should be respected and treated with class ....
I am new, take what i say with a grain of salt. New to this board but i have been members of discussion forums for as long as the Internet has been around ALMOST lol, so i am a bit savvy about posting and how boards operate. I am also a moderator on several sites, so i know how it works.
Just my two cents, spend it however you like. NOw i'm gonna :bounce: bounce. LOL

How do you enforce/check on ages if you do this?
Or is it bascially enter at your own risk if it is labeled R?
Doesn't that tend to draw "curious" kids.
Don't know how any of this works.

That's a good question, I don't know. But I know some boards enforce it so they may have inputon that one.

Most you just have to mark "over 18" ... what this does is keeps the web owner from getting into trouble if young people read inappropriate content. I dont know of any that actually "verify" your age unless you are using a credit card...and i dont think they want users to register a credit card here.
So, you can't keep out under 18'ers, but by clicking that clause, the webowners are released from liability.
And i tell ya, parents need to do more parenting. My PC is pretty well safeguarded as far as any kids getting into somethig they shouldnt. I take that responsibliity on for any minor who enters my home. I wish all parents would do this. There are things on the Internet that would make that Thud thread look like a Mary Poppins rerun.

Well on another site its like you have to make the effort to get into there so no one accidently stumbles upon it and get offended. YOu know what you are going to be reading. A MOD there said you have to say your over a certain age but if you lie... its not his problem.
DoxieChickLuvsE - May 30, 2006 05:13 PM (GMT)
Exactly AbsolutelyElliott. Once someone clicks they are over 18, it is not the moderators fault if they lie...and making it very clear that adult related content is also a protector.
Kids who are not supervised on the PC at home WILL find their way into inappropriate places. Nothing moderators can do except mark it plainly and have them mark an "i am over 18" button.
Just a thought.
