We all e-mailed this writer with complaints. Well, he CALLED my house and wants to interview me to find out why we are so "passionate" about Elliott.
Did anyone else get this...?

I don't think so.. I'm only 13.
He was on the phone with my dad and it's kind of scary how I sent him an e-mail and he tracked me down from Canada...

good luck with your interview - be sure they know that his natural, God given talent along with his integrity and gracious personality make him a very special man.

PM me if you want. I'd be more than happy to talk to him. I would use my words cautiously but let him know how inappropriate he was.
Of course, I'd be very articulate about our passion for Elliott! :)
PoorMe - May 30, 2006 12:40 AM (GMT)
I can understand you not wanting to talk to him.
There are many other people who would be willing to share why they are passionate about Elliott. Just let us know if he is looking for people to interview. I'm sure you'll get many volunteers! This is another opportunity to tell the world about our favorite peformer.

Just refer him to this board if he wants to see passionate fans. He can learn all about it right here without having to talk to you.

How did he get ur phone number?
He must got a lot of emails from E-fans, i mean a lot! If only 1/2 emails, the guy wouldn't call, and ask for an interview.

How did he get your number ? Did you give it when you wrote to him ?
Also could you please share with us what you dad said and what has happened since then ?
Its great that he is open enough to want to hear what the fans really think but as a 13 year old it may not be appropriate for you to respond to him. However, if you prepare yourself properly - it is an awsome way to spread the Elliott love in a mature and heartfelt manner. I'm sure you'll get a lot of tips and support from this board itself !
Gwen4791 - May 30, 2006 02:59 PM (GMT)
What's the email address? I'll contact him. He can talk to me. That was a horrible article.
Tempest - May 30, 2006 03:02 PM (GMT)
Tell him to download "Home" or "house is not a home" and listen...to me that says it all.

Did you actually include your telephone number in your first message to him? If you didn't you can sue him for stalking you. Tracking people like that is illegal, unless done by the authorities for criminal investigation.
calliegirl - May 30, 2006 03:50 PM (GMT)
Hey...He called my house too. Yesterday, Memorial Day, and I talked to him. I told my husband that I don't remember putting my phone number on anything....but, anyway, here is the conversation.
Mr. McKenzie: Hello. This is Robert McKenzie from the National Post...you sent me and email about a recent article I wrote about American Idol.
Calliegirl: Oh yes. I absolutely know who you are. You wrote that tasteless article.
Mr. McKenzie: Can you tell my what it is about Elliott and AI that makes you feel the way you do?
Calliegirl: This show is about the American Dream. The premise is that it gives someone a chance at achieving a dream career in the music industry who may not have ever had a chance without it.
Mr. McKenzie: I see what you mean. Like with Elliott, it really helped him to be seen; whereas, someone like Katherine and her looks, would be more likely to be noticed and would could make it big without AI.
Calliegirl: Listen. This is not just about looks. THis is supposed to be a singing competition. I'm saying that AI helps people who want to have a career in music by putting them in front of millions. Some contestants may have more of an advantage over other people by where they grew up, their income level, who they know, etc.
You shouldn't have said the things you did about Elliott. He deserves a fair chance at this. You based this article on everything but his singing talent.
Then I had to run out the door to a softball practice and could not finish our conversation. He wanted a quick profile of AI/Elliott supporters so I gave him a brief rundown about me...teacher/mom/wife!
Truthfully, he was pretty pleasant on the phone. He did not apologize for his article, but he seemed to be serious about researching why so many people had complained about his article via email. Maybe he will write a follow-up that gives Elliott and his fans some credit that is due.
blueeyedsoul - May 30, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
That's a little unnerving that the reporter could get phone numbers using email addresses!
I hope he does write a follow-up article to counter that horrible stuff he wrote. Bad enough that he dissed Elliott, but to insult his mom was unforgivable!
sange - May 30, 2006 05:34 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know his direct email.I live in Canada and it was very insulting and embarrassing to me for him to write that and I would really like to speak with him and give him a check in reality!I will tell him EXACTLY why E is loved so much and then some! :silly:
elliottyaminandchrisdaughtryfan - May 30, 2006 05:39 PM (GMT)
very kewl that you are going to get interviewed :)
Soccerma - May 30, 2006 05:44 PM (GMT)
I E-MAILED HIM AS WELL, BUT I DIDN'T GET A PHONE CALL. I DIDN'T GIVE OUT MY PHONE NUMBER.
spunkable - May 30, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
If the writer is genuinely trying to write a follow-up article giving Elliott and his fans due credit, then great. But if he really is tracking down people's private phone numbers with the use of their email addresses, that is completely the wrong way of going about it. It's is against your right to privacy and I'm pretty sure it's against the law. So if this were the case, I would be cautious about handing out your email address to this guy.
AllenaVotesYamin - May 30, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't take the Interview, unless a Parent was with you. That is very odd how he just "tracked" you down. Actually, I would contact local Police or submit a complaint to the FBI.
This guy could be a Pervert or Crazy, Look @ the stalkers on MySpace. I would definitely give this web site to your Dad
http://www.ic3.gov/ This is where you can file an Internet complaint or crime to the FBI. or www.fbi.gov
Best wishes :glomp:

I read the article, and I don't believe that you can email any of the journalists without registering first. I tried it. The form that you fill out asks for your name and your telephone number as a REQUIRED FIELD. In other words, you cannot register without giving them this information.

If so, that would make a lot more sense. I couldn't imagine why the writer from Canada would want to violate American privacy laws just to get opinions from some fans.

chercat - May 30, 2006 09:52 PM (GMT)
So, did everyone who got a call /response live in Canada ???
I know a lot of people were not only e-mailing the reporter who wrote the article, they were writing to HIS boss too . That seemed a much better course of action to stir up the pot .
I really hope he does a follow-up on why Elliott fans are so passionate about E- his initial article was terribly cruel and underhanded .

This is a very real possibility. Some members of the media did this to Clay's fans. I seem to remember some segment they were trying to get together for Dr. Phil, until the fans found out that he wanted to "analyze" them. Be very careful with this guy.

Thank you all for your comments.
I don't think I'm going to talk to him. I don't want to be any part of his obnoxious writing.
He really shouldn't be finding my phone number and information through my e-mail address. Or anybody's for that matter....
My dad told me that he's writing something about "people my age" that like Elliott. My guess is that he's going to suggest that E's fans center around teeny-boppers and all...

Well, he's probably not going to turn around and admit his article was full of BS. So I'm guessing he might very well try to make Elliott's fans look bad. Just be very careful with this guy, you don't know his true intentions...
dewsnapper - May 30, 2006 11:48 PM (GMT)
So here's the story, for all of you that were wondering:
I was on the computer, on this forum. My dad called me into the kitchen and told me my aunt called and said that some Canadian reporter called her, trying to track me down. At this, I freaked out because I thought some nuts Canadian man was stalking me. But then my dad told me that he wanted to interview me because I wrote something and he left the guy a message. My dad mentioned his name, and it sounded familiar, but I wasn't sure where I'd heard it...
At this point, I was pretty confused, because some guy called my aunt. Clearly, my e-mail is set so that it says my name in the "from" column when they recieve it. So he looked up my last name, Dewsnap, on one of those address book websites with everyone in the world in it, found my dad's brother, and called them. My aunt didn't actually give him information because she's very protective and everything, but she gave my dad his number.
So, I went upstairs to take a shower. When I was changing in my room, he announced through the door that I was going to Hollywood, and he was going to be my manager. My father's sense of humor confused me even more. When I got downstairs, my dad explained that this guy got a lot of e-mail complaints and I was one of them, and I immediately remembered. I showed my dad the article.
I told my dad I didn't want to talk to this guy. My dad, disappointed that his little angel wasn't going to be a "star", just didn't call him back. So we haven't responded. Hopefully he won't badger me anymore.
MusicalChairs - May 30, 2006 11:52 PM (GMT)
The more I think about it, he's probably ELATED that he got the emails in thinking that we all read his columns. Blah! And I emailed him too. :(
