Not sure if this has been posted yet but I just saw it on the AI board :
http://www.portfolioweekly.com/Pages/InfoPage.php/iID/1572It's a link to an article about James Moody , Moody's Mood for love .

"Did you hear the kid on American Idol?" Moody asked me with characteristic enthusiasm. "He was eliminated a couple of nights ago, and he sang it again…and he’s gonna record it. Did you know Van Morrison did it? Van Morrison did it, Aretha Franklin did it, Quincy Jones did it twice, Smokey Robinson just did it, Queen Latifah did it, and George Benson!"
Erm...at least he knows Elliott exists.

Well, James Moody is in his 80's :)
I still think it is kind of cool that he acknowledged Elliott ( albeit not by name :( ) and included him with the greats who recorded his song .
Give it a little time and James Moody will know Elliott's name as will the rest of the world . :cheerleader:

I think it's wonderful that James Moody recognized that Elliott sang his song and made mention that he recorded it! :woohoo:
Kudos to Elliott for making his mark! :bunny: :D :bunny:

James Moody is 81...not too old to remember a name, y'all. My ex-MIL is 80, and my dad is 75, and they are both almost TOO sharp!!
But I don't mind that he didn't mention Elliott's name (too much), I'm just glad that he mentioned him as one of the many who recorded the song! How cool!

Very Cool article. I am sure Elliott inspired the writer to look up Moody and find out where he was and what he was doing.
What an interesting life and man. I love his goal, at 81, to play better tomorrow.

Well, it's always nice to hear that the original artist liked your rendition of their song. We should definitely look at this as a positive, even if he didn't know Elliott's name.

I still find it very stupid that they put Elliott's MMFL song in the pop category of iTunes. Maybe more jazz listeners would be aware of it if it was in the jazz category.

True - they should at least cross-reference .

Indeed - makes no sense, MMFL is not standard pop draw,no matter how well performed.

Thanks for the post. I saw James Moody in concert a few years ago--fantastic! It doesn't trouble me at all that he doesn't remember Elliott's name. A lot of people simply aren't that into American Idol. What's significant to me is that he spoke of Elliott's performance with "obvious enthusiasm."
That's high praise!!!!

Yeah, I'm glad he at least acknowledged Elliott and seemed enthusiastic about it. I would have loved to hear what he thought of Elliott's version though. :D

Totally agree with you there outofmymind
I think there would be many more hits/purchases on his song if it was under Jazz.

It's probably just because it was released on the AI cd...which is very "poppish"...but if we can get the song on the jazz stations, that may spill over into other areas, like itunes...? :dunno:

To think that James Moody at 81 is singing that song, too! (And 81 isn't too old to remember, but it is old to retain vocal tone and range, i.e. Dionne Warwick at age 79?)
