Title: Canadian Idol

Jacqualine - June 1, 2006 08:49 PM (GMT)
Anyone?

MistressMerr - June 1, 2006 09:47 PM (GMT)
Every year there's one that really stands out for and every single other one just becomes total background noise. I usually don't watch until the finals, but a guy I know, Tim Cooper, made it to Toronto so I'll be tuning in.

 Watched on Monday night. It was somewhat entertaining - there were some really good voices (ie. mainly female) --in my opinion, not one of the guys stood out like Elliott did.
And I really, really dislike that wannabe Simon judge. Simon can be cruel but this guy just makes demeaning remarks for the sensationalism. I don't know if I can stomach watching the show if he continues in this vein. :poke:

COOL!! I'll look out for him.

Yeah, a bunch of us were there at West Edmonton Mall when he auditioned, were we all pretty pumped for him. :) :)

I dunno, I've always kinda preferred Zack to Simon, Simon can get so unbelievably dull and repetitive with his oh-so-sarcastic remarks. At least when Zack's a jerk for no reason, he's somewhat original about it.

Bluebomb - June 3, 2006 09:12 PM (GMT)
Everyone that got face time was just ok with the exception of Christina Sing and Liz Blair. Christina sang her butt off and Liz entertained me. The ones who really stood out to me were in the Gold ticket montages (Alisha Nauth, Mario DeAngelis, Heidi, Jinting Zhao)

I do not like Noel, Tim or Ashley Coulter. Kati's vibrato is less controlled than Chris's.

MistressMerr - June 6, 2006 04:00 AM (GMT)
The judges are definately the best part of the show for me. The sugar rush hijinx, the bursting into song, Jake's enormous freak-out meltdowns, I love it all.

These judges are really bizarre aren't they?

I liked the Blue hiared metal chick...I missed her name and Annabelle. I thought the guy that caused the fight between Zack and the other guy was pretty good and I didn't understand why they thought he was bad looking. He had on an ugly shirt but he was cute...a bit chubby I guess but who cares look at Ruben! And I don't care what anyone says Kalen Porter is not hot/sexy or whatever. He looks like a female hobbit.

I know, that guy that sang Moondance, I really liked him! Certainly not the best vocalist, but still good. And he was NOT ugly! And seriously, I do not get people who say Kalan's attractive.

Berkana - June 6, 2006 04:37 PM (GMT)
Hey man I love Kalan. I think he's cute. Not hot, but cute.

Look at Ryan Malcolm, I think he's cute too. Whatever happened to him?

I dunno, Kalan's always kinda weirded me out. I can see how he's cute though, just not how he can be used of as a barometer of someone's looks. Ryan was a cutie though, what DID happen to him?

Yeah that's true.

I don't know I loved Ryan. In World Idol I voted for him.

Kalan scares me these days, he looks like a woman. However, I love his voice and hope he can become healthy again.

slimpickin - June 6, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
It looks like he lost a LOT of weight, like he's anorexic looking. I swear he looked like a stick creature when I saw him at the Junos and the woman's-cut top didn't do him any favors..

Berkana - June 6, 2006 11:28 PM (GMT)
I just saw some pictures from the Juno awards. My god someone feed that boy a damn twinkie.

I know he's getting older, but his face doesn't have that youthful look anymore. He looks sick.

slimpickin - June 6, 2006 11:38 PM (GMT)
I know and in a span of less than 5 years...I can only hope he's getting help! I want a new cd dammit

I was so upset on Monday night, 'cause I thought I missed the show, but it was on tonight (Tuesday) instead. I haven't watched it yet, I taped it and am going to watch it in a few minutes.

This is my first season actually watching past the auditions. Sadly, not one single person has caught my eye. A few of them had talent, but not AMAZING CRAZY talent like Elliott and that is what I am looking for!

Out of all the auditions so far, the only one that I was impressed with was Alisha Nauth.

How can I see the show if I live in the states? Are the clips available online anywhere? Did I miss something?

Hmmm, I'm not sure where you would find it, but I have seen many people (at the Canadian Idol website) from outside Canada who have seen the show. So, it's out there somewhere, you just have to figure out where! I am going to look around and see if I can find it. I wonder if any episodes are allowed on You Tube?

Not sure who that is - It is hard to familiarize yourself with all of the names, when each person is shown onscreen briefly. I think I will watch the tape again to see who exactly who these others people are talking about are.

I really enjoyed the back to back episodes from Tuesday night (group theme). That spunky little red-headed guy is a hoot! Not sure that he can really sing, but he definately is entertaining!

i get CTV
i can't wait till this week!

So who did y'all vote for? My votes were split pretty evenly between Keith and Chad, and I tossed a couple to Chris near the end (but he really needs to do something about that mohawk).

Ha Ha, Mistress Merr, great minds think alike! I was so shocked by Keith - I thought he was an awesome, funny, lovable guy - but he can actually sing! Yeah!! I found Chad so endearing... Those 2 are my faves right now. Chris is such a cute guy, but indeed I hate that mohawk. Have you seen pics of him before he had it?? Much better!

Oh, I know! I sincerely hope they do something about it if he makes top 10. What did you think of the first round of eliminations? I'm kind of upset about Nathan, I liked him a lot. Not quite enough to vote for him, but it was close. Koz surprised me, I wasn't crazy about him, but I figured he was gimmicky enough to last a couple weeks at the very least.

Oh man, KOZ drove me up the wall! Something about him just rubbed me the wrong way. I guess he kinda seemed so full of himself. . . Nathan I just felt neutral about - didn't love him, didn't hate him. I was sure that Sheldon was a gonner after that song he did, but I think he has that "likeablity" factory they're always yapping about! I missed the girls performances last Tuesday, so I can't really say what I thought of them or of the two girls who were eliminated.

I wonder if Chris will be in the competition long enough to grow out his damn mohawk - although Vote For the Worst has made him the chosen one so he may stay in the competition awhile.

CathleenSusan - July 1, 2006 10:41 AM (GMT)
oh, and I should add that I really think that Chris' style of dancing around the stage and acting goofy is going to grow old real fast for a lot of people!

MistressMerr - July 2, 2006 04:02 PM (GMT)
Chris' performance gave me a kinda Jacob Hoggard lite vibe with the stomping around. And Sheldon, that was definately a shocker, not complaining though, I definately liked him. Not so much on a vocal level of course, just in general. Kinda surprised VFTW didn't pick him though.

CanadianFan - July 4, 2006 02:56 AM (GMT)
:hello: I watched Canadian Idol tonight and there's no Elliott amongst the guys. Craig Sharpe and Chad Doucette are Taylor wannabes - it's all about the shtick -- not the voice. I was dismayed to see two of Elliott's songs being sung tonight -- Rob James (from my town) did Heaven and the whole time I kept thinking Elliott! Elliott! Don't get me wrong, I kind of like Rob but please -- unless you can do it as well as Elliott, it feels like a desecration. And young Brandon Jones, whom I liked before, did Somebody to Love. It was a poor, weak vocal -- the only time he sounded okay was at the very end. I expected more from him.
Sheldon did a decent job of "Moondance". He showed some soul. I think Craig Sharpe has a beautiful voice. Just don't know how versatile he can be with it.
I like Keith McPherson. He has a nice voice (again, no Elliott) but he has potential and a likeable character.

I am anticipating the girls more, as I thought there were a few outstanding voices amongst them. Don't remember their names off-hand. Will find out tomorrow night! This still doesn't fill the gap!! I want more Elliott!!!
:cheerleader:

MistressMerr - July 4, 2006 04:10 AM (GMT)
Yikes, poor Brandon and his fish eyes absolutely murdered Somebody to Love. I'm not crazy about Rob, but he did a passable job on Heaven. Sheldon's not in the same league as some of the others, vocally, but dammit, I like him! Chris managed to find a way to make the mohawk worse. Blurg. Tyler impressed me, but there's something about him that creeps me out, I don't know what. Craig's a damn good singer, but I like my guys to sound like guys.

Pretty much all of my votes are going to Keith tonight, he knocked it out of the park once again, and his isn't a style I usually like very much. I might throw a few to Chad, Chris, and Sheldon a little later.

But yeah, I am really loving Keith, he has the potential to become one of my all-time favourites.

Heh Heh Mistress M. GET OUT OF MY HEAD!! Man, you pretty much just voiced what I was thinking on all points.

Keith is getting all of my votes for now and I don't really see any of the other guys coming up with something better to change my mind.

MistressMerr - July 5, 2006 04:04 AM (GMT)
Hehe, great minds think alike indeed! :D

I don't find the girls nearly as memorable as the guys. I can't even remember all of their names. I really like Alisha Nauth and Eva Avila though, they're my favourites of the ladies. Steffi D's great too, I'm really pushing for her to get into the top 10. And I am so not getting the love affair with Nancy Silverman. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority, but that 'clear, crisp, sharpness' of hers they love so much is very nearly PHYSICALLY PAINFUL to me. It makes me wince like it actually hurts. She's darn good at what she does, I'll give her that, but egads, that voice grates.

CanadianFan - July 5, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
:hello: I feel there's way more talent in the girls pool. There are several really good voices. I like Ashley Coulter's husky, bluesy sound.
Eva did a Roberta Flack song "Killing me softly" and she did it well. But of course, this was one of my favourtie Roberta songs, and I just couldn't help comparing. But I think she definitely has talent.
Alisha Noth has a powerful voice -- and I agree with Sass that she hit hard way too early in the number. Somehow I didn't feel she was as believable as some of the others.
Sarah did another Elliott song. I can't help it, when she sang I Don't Wanna Be, I just kept thinking that it was no where as good as Elliott's version. I wonder if I will ever be able to hear any of his songs without comparing?
Steffi D has a nice voice, she's cute and has great stage presence. She could be a contender. She is adorable as the judges all said.
I thought Ashlee Cole did a fabulous job tonight. I wasn't loving her voice last week, but she redeemed herself tonite. And for a 16 year old to belt out "Misery" and be totally believable is quite an accomplishment.
I am not fond of Alyssa -- bad song choices -- not a strong voice.
I agree that there's something annoying about Nancy Silverman's voice. While I think she did a good job of her song, I can't see that type of voice making it through the different genres.
I think Keith is the only guy who can really compete against the women. Craig has a lovely voice -- but I agree with the comment "I like my guys to sound like guys!"

You are starting to scare me! I thought the SAME exact thing about Nancy - I literally said "Ow, that hurts my ears" outloud!! It was just plain painful in my opinion. I also really liked Eva. . . That is about it for the girls I liked. Alisha Nauth and contestant 4 (can't remember her name she is kinda on the heavy side) were pretty good also, but I didn't send them any votes.

I pretty much just want to see the guys perform again - I am mesmerized by Keith's voice.

I really like that second one of Sheldon, where'd it come from? And those pictures of Chris have only intensified my hate for the mohawk. I was so elated yesterday when he came out wearing a hat but then he just had to go and crush my hopes of keeping it covered. And Keith's such a sweetheart in that second pic!
