What low budget interviewers. First they comment on his height, then his teeth? Then they put him on the spot to sing? Shouldn't they have prepared better for an interview with someone as special as elliott? I loved the way the women in the background window were so excited to see Elliott. That was cute. I also think he looks hot in his t-shirt....
Berkana - June 2, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
Haven't listened to it all yet. But I just want to state that I love that he always thanks them for having him on. He's such a sweetie.
Okay back to listening to the interview.

I can't see it... After the add it goes black and stays black
Gwen4791 - June 2, 2006 04:55 PM (GMT)
I thought that it was a pretty decent interview. I will note that they said that he was really good and that because his voice was so BIG he should be at least 7'2". That's a backward Simon compliment. Secondly, Elliott revealed the fact that he had received so many offers to fix his teeth. He put the info out there, and of course the media latched on to it. Thirdly, I just think that it is so totally awesome that Elliott is getting so much exposure. Think about it: Nikki McKibbin, Kimberley Locke, Jasmine Trias, or Vonzell Solomon have not received as much press as Elliott has as 2nd runner ups. Considering that, it's pretty awesome.
lauralulu - June 2, 2006 04:55 PM (GMT)
Ohhh, he was so cute! I thought it was a nice interview--except obviously for the teeth comment. People sometimes forget that someone they see on tv or the movies is actually still a real person with feelings. I felt so bad for him when they asked that, he got all self conscious with his hand over his mouth--big jerks!
ampGURU - June 2, 2006 04:58 PM (GMT)
Ok...??? I didn't get to watch this live, and I read from posts that Elliott was bashed/embarrased during the interview.
After watching this, all I have to say is everyone is being over-dramatic. Elliott wasn't bashed, it was a light-hearted interview. He didn't look uncomfortable, and I thought he was his charming self--like always.
People seriously need to grow up and stop being so EMO over nothing...
ElliottCat101 - June 2, 2006 05:01 PM (GMT)
How long does it take to load? I've been waiting 15 minutes!
shatner8 - June 2, 2006 05:01 PM (GMT)
these interviewers need to go back to journalism school! Elliott, as always was an absolute dream and rose above such nonsense, Just love him! :cheerleader:
Juicesmom - June 2, 2006 05:02 PM (GMT)
I have also noticed how he never comments on "my fans" this and "my fans" that. He uses the phrase "fans of the show." My sister has always been bothered by these new-to-the-public artists referring to their "fans" (even though that's exactly what we are). This, to me, shows once again how extremely humble and sincere Elliott is. He is such a wonderful person and artist. I'm so glad he auditioned, giving us the opportunity to hear and grow to love him.

ETrainBoston2 - June 2, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
Well, good thing Elliott has a better temper than I do.. I would have drilled these clowns. I mean...why the fixation on his teeth? Who Cares!? This is just another example of what a special guy Elliott is..he is humble and gracious even when he is being interviewed by shallow, simpletons and being asked questions that undoubtedly make him uncomfortable. The Grocery thing was equally stupid and demeaning. He NEVER even bagged groceries. These ignorant buffoons don't even fdo their homework..I thought Elliott played it off well.
dke1212 - June 2, 2006 05:31 PM (GMT)
He did mention Taylor had a bigger fanbase, saying Taylor could afford to vote for him for that reason. The teeth comment was stupid but I think the guy that asked it is an Elliott fan. Plus they did show a small clip of him singing so people that didn't watch idol can see how good he is.
calliegirl - June 2, 2006 06:04 PM (GMT)
Secondly, Elliott revealed the fact that he had received so many offers to fix his teeth. He put the info out there, and of course the media latched on to it.
You know, for the most part, the interview was not that bad. I think he went into the interview somewhat uncomfortable. He sounded so damn good on that clip of him singing "Somebody to Love". One anchorman got it right by saying, "You are good." It should have been left right there, but the female had to change the positive into a weird compliment/diss about how it was strange to meet him and him being so small for having such a BIG voice. I hate it when people do this.
Now as far as the teeth comment, I disagree with the earlier post above. Elliott NEVER started the BS about his teeth. Jerk people who have nothing better to do than to talk about people started it...Elliott did not "put it the info out there". He only confirmed after so many people had blasted him about his teeth that he had received many offers to fix them.
This segment in this interview was inappropriate and completely uncalled for. I wasn't going to write an email about this (due to many E-trainers urging not to) until after I watched the video. But you better believe I will now.
I am a firm believer that everybody is entitled to their own opinions. But if you are going to give someone a compliment, don't insert a negative into the positive to take away from the compliment. I used to have a boss like this when I worked in the corporate world. We were about the same age (20's) and she always took my glory away with these types of comments. It was really difficult to want to go to work each day, so I can imagine how Elliott must have felt after this interview. It is BS!
calliegirl - June 2, 2006 06:16 PM (GMT)
:cheerleader: Wait, I just had a peptalk from another E-trainer on a different thread titled "I challenge...." It helped me get over my anger! I have to remember what I tell my daughter. Kill em with kindness and they will never know what hit them. You will always win!
Thanks for letting me vent in my previous post!!!!!
My Gosh I love Elliott!
Tara_Cea - June 2, 2006 06:19 PM (GMT)
I just watched it & I also noticed when he said 'fans of the show' instead of 'My fans' I think that's just awesome! I loved the way he played off the whole groceries bagging thing, he was so great about it. I could just imagine another AI contestant ( :kitty3: ) being completely offended if someone 'accused' her of bagging groceries.
Just another example of why I love E so much!!!

I haven't watched the clip yet, but I too get very tired of negative crap about his appearance, or his performances. How small-minded can people be?! My dad was very bad about piting people against each other and focusing on what he perceived as their shortcomings. Like he was perfect?! NOT! I'm very sensitive, having been a casualty of that kind of pettiness.
Those who are looking for perfection probably have a low self-esteem. Bet they don't measure up to Barbie & Ken either, or maybe they haven't stood in front of a full-length mirror long enough to see their own imperfections.
elliottvoter - June 2, 2006 06:45 PM (GMT)
I didn't think it was THAT bad. Elliott handled himself like a true professional.

Okay, this is from and interview with the top 12 from Entertainment Weekly (http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1171870_3_0_,00.html):
Is there something about your look you'd like to change for the next stage of the competition?
ELLIOTT YAMIN: Yeah, my teeth, to be honest with you. I'd like to have a nicer smile, you know? But I've had these teeth for my whole life [laughs], and learned to live with them. I'm not that crazy about changing them and I'm not that crazy about them, really. But if there's one thing on me that I'd like to change, it would be that — my grill.
It was after this was printed that Elliott Yamin received offers from all of the dentists to fix his teeth. From his very own mouth during his post-elimination interview with Entertainment Weekly (http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1195392-2-2_3||266575|1_,00.html):
I've heard hundreds of dentists have phoned the production offices offering to fix your teeth. Are you going to take them up on it?
That's something I'm seriously considering. It has to be the right time and the right place for it. The calls have been pouring in from dentists from all over the country. On the red carpet at the top-12 party, somebody asked me something like, ''If I would change one thing about my appearance what would it be?'' And I think I said something like, ''I'd like to have a nicer smile.'' They published it, and next thing you know, I'm getting calls right and left, the show is fielding calls, my mother is fielding calls... It's cool. All these people want to help me out for free. And from what I understand, dental work is expensive.
I love Elliott as much as the next person. Him revealing those things about himself only makes him more endearing to me. The media can miscontrue things, yes. But, that's how they are with all celebrities.

After reading all the fuss made over this particular interview I expected it to be really bad... but honestly? Storm in a teacup.
Had I not heard all the fuss, I would never have thought twice about it at all and Elliott was not phased in the least!
EYowza - June 2, 2006 09:55 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry but this network is just TACKY. Yes, I know it is the network that brings us AI, but really .....
Well, I guess some publicity is better than no publicity at all.
Elliott, as usual, rose above it. What a guy!
E-fan4life - June 2, 2006 11:31 PM (GMT)
I read the posts re: this interview this morning about how some people were up in arms about the way E was treated.
I just watched the video and didn't take it that way at all. I don't think they tried to humiliate him and I don't think E felt that way either. As the OP pointed out, E DID mention in previous interviews that he wanted dental work. They just asked him about the offers he was getting from dentists and he answered. That was it! And E IS a small guy with a BIG voice. He knows his size and he seems very comfortable with himself.
I'm really impressed with the way E is handling himself in these interviews.
He's such a sweetie! I just love him to death!
endee4e - June 2, 2006 11:48 PM (GMT)
Ok I was about to download the interview on my pc but because of all the comments posted on this board I canceled the download because I couldn't bear to see our boy being dissed.
But after seeing the clip in this thread I honestly feel the interviewers comments have been blown out of proportion. It was quite a good interview, humorous and entertaining and of course our Elliott handled it very well indeed. I think Elliott was paid a tonne of complements out there and yet though they did mention the teeth, it was nothing that has not been revealed before - that dentists have come forward and offered to help Elliott out for free. No diss there at all. Elliott himself had mentioned earlier in the season that if there was on thing that he could change it would be to attend to his teeth so now why are the interviewers being jumped on when they say the same thing ? I saw no malicious intent in the interview at all.
My .02 cents.
Gwen4791 - June 3, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
Thank you! I didn't think it was bad at all. I honestly LOVE Elliott's voice, but it is refreshing to see some interviewers interested in other areas of his life, outside of Idol. If he gets a chance to sing too, then that's a plus for me.
chercat - June 3, 2006 12:11 AM (GMT)
I think it was kind of tacky to bring up the fact that dentists had offered to fix his teeth , too .
That is really kind of personal , IMO, and although it is " out there " on some forums , I think there were a lot of more pertient topics that could have been discusssed .
It just seems like they were pointing out a " flaW" whereas they should have been focusing on his strengths , if you know what I'm saying .
I would have preferred they omitted that question and gave him the 1 min to sing a 1:28 Idol song .
ccsescape - June 3, 2006 12:14 AM (GMT)
Thanks for sharing the link. I thought E did a good interview. Short and sweet and they were complimentary of his voice.
Glad to see E on TV .... have been missing him!!
Edub - June 3, 2006 01:36 AM (GMT)
Just saw the interview... don't think it was as bad as everyone made it out to be...
I think the height and teeth comment were not called for- but it's a second rate fox morning show- so we can't expect too much- I highly doubt Matt Lauer or Katie Couric would have asked some of those questions.
I did think the interview's overall vibe was positive, just a little "out there" in terms of content. I also don't think E was self conscious- but he does do the nervous hand motion thing a lot- which would be great if he could get that more under control.
Appearance- I don't see anything wrong w/ E's style/appearance the past two days- celebs change their looks all the time, and I think Elliott is going for the more laid back look-- there's plenty of time for him to dress it up in the future. Even on a down day- he doesn't look as trashy as say K-Fed...
As for mancow-- I wouldn't even waste my time on him-- he used to be a dj out here in Nor Cal until Clear Channel FIRED him for acting like a fool- and I doubt his show is top rated in Chicago either...

I think I did say this too that the overall vibe of the interview was positive. But the teeth comment (even if ...thank you fellow E-trainers for the info...Elliott was the one to mention his teeth being something he would fix in a previous interview) was uncalled for. There could have been much better interview questions, but Elliott did handle himself extremely well in that and all of his interviews. I would guess that he probably can figure out right when he walks into a studio for an interview how he is going to feel based on the vibes...you know what I mean? You know when people are warm or not...I certainly do....Maybe that is why he was doing a lot of those nervous hand motions!!!

I agree, not called for. There are a million other questions any intelligent journalist could have asked.
I just felt so uncomfortable for him, as he quickly put his hand over his mouth when asked. Certainly, there is some physical trait we all don't like about ourselves and how uncomfortable it is when someone brings attention to it. Personally I can think of quite a few.
He handled it beautifully, I'm glad it wasn't me up on the stage... the NE city girl probably would have come out in me.
Edited I hate typos

After hearing the horror stories about this interview, I swore I would not watch it, but I did.
He looked darling. I love him in white and blue. What season is he, because I think green is not such a good color for him.
They all seemed to really like him and appreciate him for his talent.
Elliott was well-spoken, charming, and he seemed to me to be unoffended by the teeth and height comments.
It was nice they played some clips of great AI perfomances of him.
They wanted him to sing. I so wish he had sung a few bars of MMFL a cappella.
They talked about Simon's "best singer ever" comment, and E, once again, pointed out Simon said 'potentially'.
All in all, it was a very good interview. I am glad I caved and watched it. IMO, it was really not as bad as people said.
As far as Mancow goes, they did defend E after he referred to him as that Narnia character (how unoriginal). Mancow has McPheever anyway, so he obviously has little taste in real talent.
