Did anyone check with Elliott to see how he feels about this? Just wondering.
tralalara - June 2, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
You bet I voted!
More than happy to do so.

I won't be signing it - sorry. IMHO I think that it sounds a bit desperate and frankly I don't believe that Elliott IS desperate. And how many signatures will be sufficient? 100s of thousands? Nothing less will do really to avoid looking really pathetic. Sorry - not intending to insult... just telling it like it is.
In his interviews Elliott has come across as totally confident that he will be in a recording studio at the end of the AI tour. So - if he is picked up by E19 or whoever they are or not - HE KNOWS he has something ready to go.
These days as an option you can produce a record and market it entirely over the internet. And Elliott knows he has a fan base ready waiting and eager to by his cover of 'Old MacDonald has a farm' - frankly ANYTHING he chooses to put out really.
So, by all means keep up the support and make the radio play requests and lobby for TV appearances (preferably singing!) - but drop the mollycoddling approach. Make all emails etc. emphasise the POSITIVE. Drop this bombarding stations with complaints because someone mentioned dental work offers. Come ON! He is a big boy now.
Like I say - not intending to offend .... (Ducks quick!)
:P
Elliott is gracious and diplomatic at all times - suggest we behave the same.

Agree - I know you are passionate, as we all are about E. But I agree that it sounds desparate and I don't think it's something E would approve be sent. Sorry!

Elliott has a 90 day grace period from the end of season 5, during which time he can have discussions with record executives, but cannot make any formal deals. This is a crucial 90 days for his fans because the music industry keeps thier ear to the streets and are fully aware what the paying public are looking for.
A petition is a formal means of keeping track of how many people support something, i.e. Elliott Yamin. I believe it will be effective in showing the music industry what a strong following Elliott truly has!
Besides, it can't hurt to add your name to an already growing list!

Yaminiette, I know you meant well setting up this petition, but I have to agree with Wardie. It does come across as desperate. And unnecessary.
Call me naive and overly-optimistic, but I feel really good about Elliott's chances at getting a record deal. So unless someone directly connected to E comes right out and say this is what he wants us to do, I won't be signing anything. Sorry.

I also agree that a petition sounds kind of desperate. And way too small an idea for the hugeness of the record industry. To the music industry, anything short of, say 2 million signatures, will look like chump change. Selling a couple of million CDs is considered to be a pretty moderate success, but nothing too tremendous. I doubt we are going to get anywhere close to those kind of numbers on a petition. I think, in the real world, charting on Billboard and maintaining that status will speak way more to Elliott's future success than a petition could possibly do.
That's why the iTunes sales, the Radio Campaign to request MMFL on the top stations in the country as well as the local stations, and putting pressure on TV shows to have E on as a guest singer - these are actions we can take that will have a greater impact.
I applaud you for wanting to support the E-man. Let's make sure that the actions we take create the intended result - Elliott getting signed by the perfect label and coming out with the first of many amazing CDs as soon as possible!
