Hi Myshel--

I listened to it earlier. You were quite starstruck. I thought he was so incredibly nice, frankly. And to say that he knows you're beautiful without seeing you--how great was that??!! I hope you get to meet him on Aug 25. You must post to tell us about the show--and take some digital pictures for us.

ElliottzGirl - Thank you for sharing that letter and the call with me. I would never been some brave to be so thoroughly open about my feelings. I know that a huge part of the reason I became so attached to Elliott was because he allowed me a place to emote, even if it was privately. Stoicism is a huge part of my life and career, even the "fan letter" I wrote to him directly was more formal and lacking the feelings you so beautifully expressed to him. But since you shared such a huge part of yourself with me I will share what I wrote to him:

Dear Elliott:

I know you and your handlers are getting swamped with emails praising your spectacular achievements of this past AI:5 season- here's another to add to the pile. I started watching Idol at the beginning of season 3, and until this season I have never completely devoted to one contestant. I really liked you, Chris, Mandisa and Lisa - but for some reason you (and Chris who impressed me as well, I felt sure it would be you two in the finals. It is often said that I am rarely wrong and never in doubt, well, while I may have been wrong about the finalists, there can be little doubt that you and Chris will be the shining stars from this season) captured my attention from the audition stage. As much as I liked the others- you were my all time favorite Idol contestant ever. This entire I never once considered voting for another contestant. Nor did I believe- as in seasons past- that I was voting against other contestants, but rather I was voting for you all season.

I work in politics indeed, I work on political campaigns. I get told often by voters that they feel they have a choice between the lesser of two evils, they feel less as though they are voting for someone, and more that they are voting against someone worse. In my field that’s hard to understand because my entire existence is based upon why you should consider 'so and so' a great choice, and not a consolation prize - and try as we might to be logical or objective, most of us that work on campaigns actually do believe we are serving a greater good, (trust me, we don't do this for the money) and do in fact believe the rhetoric that we believe our candidates represent. However, in light of recent events, I can feel their pain, a bit more which before I could never understand at all. So while I appreciate the hard work and effort that Taylor and Katherine have put in, and of course will be watching the finals - I will not be voting for either of them, it would not be feel right because since the first time I watched your audition I have been a founding member of the E-Train.

Elliott, you are my American Idol. Thank you for the weeks of great music and your obvious grace and charm. There are precious few singers whose voices are so rich in quality and emotion that they move the unemotional me- the only others that come to mind are Macy Gray, Aaron Neville, Norah Jones and Dave Matthews. (For the record I was screaming at the TV when Clive Owen picked one of my least favorite songs of all time for you, when he had to know that you would have melted the collective heart of America with well, frankly anything by Dave you could have handled, however I think Everyday would have been a much more interesting song choice.) Here's some advice from a jaded political consultant: enjoy your success, stay true to yourself, and never sellout.

I can't wait to buy your CD's.

Warmly,
Lisa

I think your letter was very beautiful as well. I think Elliott is bringing out the best of all of us...we are being genuine, just like him. We are admitting vulnerable things about ourselves! Some of us are more emotional than others based on the circumstances in our lives. I have written 3 letters and have torn them all up and thrown them away! I want to tell him so much, but for now I will live vicariously through those of you who are more brave then me!

*laughs* One may be able to tell from this letter that I avoid pop culture as much as possible. I wrote this the day after he was voted off and it was recently pointed out to me that I keep jumbling the last name of some actor that I have never heard of and the old coot that chose those worst song in history for our man E.
