Title: Famous Friends
Description: Ever had a friend who became famous?
bittley - June 3, 2006 02:00 AM (GMT)
I was thinking about those people who know Elliott from before AI and I was wondering what it must be like for them to see him become famous. Anyone else have childhood friends who became famous? What was it like to witness that?
GypsyNFla - June 3, 2006 02:17 AM (GMT)
My brother had a best friend who became pretty famous. He spent a lot of time with us, and him and my brother would sleep out in a tent in our back yard when they were in their early teens. His name was Dan Hartman. I remember Danny having the biggest record collection I'd ever seen.
I don't know if anyone remembers him, but he was very well known for at least two of his songs "I Can Dream About You" and "Instant Replay." He was part of the Edgar Winter Band as well. He passed away a few years ago... I think from a brain tumor.

I remember him! He had a nice voice. I'm so sorry to hear he passed away - I had no idea.

That's pretty cool. I've liked him ever since "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure."
My closest brush with fame is a high school boyfriend who was on a soap opera. Then his character was killed and I haven't heard about him since.

A couple people from my highschool went into pro sports, and a couple went into music, but I feel fake mentioning them because I didn't know them well. Another friend that I met the year after I graduated, married the girl from highschool. He now produces her. It's been 13 years so I doubt either of them would even remember my name. :dunno:

I REMEMBER DAN HARTMAN. VERY GOOD SINGER. DIDN'T KNOW HE PASSED AWAY. HOW SAD.

i dated a guy in college who is a musician in a semi-famous band in LA. they're sort of up and coming, i've seen them in those "you hear it first" spots on VH1, on MTV2, on the Style network at red carpet events. that's actually how i found out, just by watching television. the lead singer is dating Mischa Barton.
incidentally, the guy i dated was a big jerk. but aren't they all?

I once spent Thanksgiving with my boyfriend's best friend's family (Scott is like an adopted son to them) and I was talking to one fo the cousins who looked so familiar but I just couldn't pinpoint it. Then I later found out that he was going to the same college as me, and we figured out we were in the same history class. Turns out that he has a band that just recently got a record deal. They started recording their album a couple of weeks ago. I don't talk to him but it will still be interesting to see how it turns out for them!

I briefly struck up an email friendship with a guy who was a reporter/columnist at my hometown paper when I was away at college. When I got home for the summer, we spoke a few times and were supposed to go out. Never happened because he unexpectedly went to California for something (turned out to be a job interview with
People magazine) and moved there a few weeks after getting back to Virginia (and
I started working at that paper not long after he left).
Where is he now? Working for
Us magazine and all over the entertainment shows and on E! and VH-1 (and,
according to this, Ryan Seacrest's radio show). If you watch them, you'd probably recognize him (I watch them and it feels like he's on
every single one: I'm all, "Dude, now you're just
taunting me..." :P)

I went to kindergarden through 10th grade with an actor :) His name is Jared, and he booked his first big film role in Kevin Smith's Dogma. He was one of the Stygian triplets. (The demon kids on skates, lol, that worked for Jason Lee's character.) I thought it was pretty darn cool. He was killed by Chris Rock in the movie! And he's on the cover of the special edition.

OMG I didn't know he had died either. That's so sad. It's always sad when talent dies and is lost. "I can dream about you" is one of those songs from the soundtrack of my teenaged life. LOL
I went to school with two of the "Bare Naked Ladies", they were 2 years ahead of me so we were not friends or anything close to it. I just knew who they were because they were always singing in assemblies. Also went to School with Monika Schnarre. She won Supermodel of the World when she was in gr. 9 and is probably best known for some role she did on Beastmaster. And as the Transvestite Steve almost has sex with on Beverly Hills 90210. We had a diector and some athletes from my school too. That's about it for famous people I barely know personally. LOL

Um... my friend's step-uncle was in Nsync, and a bunch of the pop music group managers/producers live in the same community as I do. A couple of my friends are living in Hollywood right now, but they're not really famous I don't think.
Oh and one of my friends was on double dare 2000! that was prettycool. lol.

I went to school since kindergarten with Michael Buble. We were in the same grade, but I wasn't good friends with him - though he was a really nice guy. I think we were all shocked to see Michael Buble appear as this hugely successful singer and performer. None of us knew that he could sing, let alone make the ladies swoon! lol
I also knew Carrie-Ann Moss (Trinity in the Matrix movies). Our mothers are good friends, and I was in a singing and dancing group with her when I was little. I should mention that she is about 10 years older than me. I think I was about 5 years old in that group, and she was in her mid-teens (before her nosejob lol)

Sorry, just had to sneak this in:
Dan Hartman's "Instant Replay" was huge - but I was too young to hit the club scene...LOL. I remember dancing to this all the time at home, though. On
this YouTube video, the accompanying info defines him as one of the greatest blue-eyed singers of his day.
P.S. My best friend is famous in his profession - not Hollywood famous per se, but one of the first 2 or 3 people in the world who could do what he does. LOL. He'll kill me if I said anything more.
