Title: What Book Are You Reading Now?

nymphadora - June 4, 2006 03:59 PM (GMT)
I'm reading "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

elliottsbabe - June 4, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
"Six Bad Things" by Charlie Huston.

It has a first part to it called "Caught Stealing." I reccomend this book, it is well written and one of the better books I've read (and I read aaaa lot) Very violent and gruesome. Its fast-paced too, you'll never put it down.

Mimpy - June 4, 2006 04:22 PM (GMT)
I finished "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini last week. I definitely recommend it. It's very powerful and thought-provoking.

Oh heck, I don't know how to use this darn thing! Just posted something somewhere else and now I can't find the darn thing. Oh well...

I just read Teri Hatcher's “Burnt Toast and other Philosophies of Life”. Very enjoyable, stream of consciousness type of thing. Can’t say I’ve ever watched Desperate Housewives, but thoroughly enjoyed her book. It was neat how she NEVER used any names, just drew on her experiences without name-dropping. Great!

Some Piers Anthony book..... it's book 1 in a series... somethingsomething Tarot. Just started it heh...

SoulMusicRocks - June 5, 2006 07:33 AM (GMT)
I'm reading "The Exonerated" which was Co-Authored by Erik Jenson and Jessica Blank. It is a short play on 6 Death Row inmates (5 men and 1 woman) who were all exonerated and found to be innocent/wrongly convicted. It is a very powerful and insightful drama which brings to light the many issues that our justice system faces today in addition to the sheer horror that these 6 innocent people had to go through while jailed. I must say, if you are Anti-Death Penalty/Capital Punishment that you will find this book to be a strong example of the need for its abolishment. If you are Pro-Capital Punishment, you may find yourself questioning your views. I'm nearing the end of the play, and it is very well-written with mixtures of dialogue, prose, and poetry of the 6 inmates that all tie in together.

I'm in the middle of 3 books. I'm the type that leaves books unfinished and start on new ones, though I get to finish most of them somehow.

1. A Body in the Bathhouse by Lindsey Davis
2. Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher
3. Two Little Lies by Liz Carlyle

A wierd mix, I know.

Like some of you, WHEN I can pull myself away from here in the evenings, I like to read a little before I nod off. I say a little, because I can barely get through a chapter before I'm snoozing away! :( It's a shame what these boards have done to my attention span.

Where was I? Oh, I'm reading The City of Falling Angels by John Berendt. I figure at this pace, I should be finished by the time Elliott releases Greatest Hits, Vol. II.

I love Donald Miller. All of his books are amazing. He is also a very good public speaker. He recently came to my church to speak and what he talked about gave you a lot to think about.

I am reading a book about the Donner party and the Oregan Trail right now. I'm also re-reading Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell

:D I love historical fiction. Recently read Manda Scott's "Boudica: Dreaming the Bull". This is the 2nd in a series about Breaca, war leader of the Eceni, who led the native celtic tribes in revolt against the occupying armies of Rome. "This is a heart-stopping story of war and of peace; of love, passion and betrayal; of druids and warring gods..."
I loved this book - I am now compelled to find the 1st book in the series. It's called "Boudica: Dreaming the Eagle"

MistressMerr - June 15, 2006 11:55 AM (GMT)
Just started Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. I've read the manga a few months back and I've loved the movie forever. Just re-read the manga the other day (all 15 volumes within an 18-hour period, I am emotionally exhausted ) so I decided I was overdue picking up the book. So far, so good.

Am also about halfway through Yann Martel's Life of Pi, which has been sitting on my shelf for months and I only just got to for some reason.

Gogo - June 16, 2006 01:33 AM (GMT)
