Edub - June 4, 2006 09:15 PM (GMT)
Was checking out Rolling Stone and did a search on E- he has a profile- but not too much info... we can kick off his RS presence by submitting trivia questions and rating the artist!
http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/elliottyaminThere's also an interview w/ Tay on his AI experience-- seems like he's already giving 19 hell :)

Thanks for this. And what a good idea to hit Rolling Stone.!! It's funny I had a dream the other day. I was walking between a house and a church. On the side of the house Elliot was sitting on a porch with some people. It seems he was having a meeting of some kind. And in the church on the second floor, Taylor was setting up equipment with his band, He seemed tired and said he was so over American Idol.

Thanks for the link. Interesting perspective.

Listening now. Thanks for the link. Quite interesting take on the whole deal from a newly crowned winner.

Very interesting interview. I wonder how 19 entertainment is gonna handle Taylor, cuz it sounds like he is not gonna bend to what they want. Which I think is good. I'm not a Taylor fan at all, but I'm sure his fans don't want to see him turned into another cookie cutter pop performer. That is not what they fell in love with, so more power to him, I say!!
FeistyLady - June 4, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
I clicked too soon and only gave him two stars. :o There's actually not enough stars on there to indicate how I feel about OUR rising star...

Helps us to understand why E was so happy to lose this darn thing! I'm sure he and Taylor stayed up nights talking about the pros and cons of AI!
LOTR Fan 71281 - June 4, 2006 11:35 PM (GMT)
Yeah...Taylor does not seem to be happy with AI. I just hope that he able to make the music he wants. It's not starting off well now due to the fact that his first single is "Do I Make You Proud". That song is not him at all.

I have never liked the first single that any AI winner had to release. They are so sappy and just plain yuck!!!
Edub - June 5, 2006 12:29 AM (GMT)
It's interesting, Tay didn't sound happy at all and the editor seemed a little flustered as well. I know Tay doesn't want to compromise- but it will be difficult for him to not cave under Clive and 19-- I guess time will tell.
I'm hopeful that Elliott can record the material that he has a passion for and that will blow the audience away.

Thanks for the post. It's interesting to compare Taylor's comments to E's regarding Simon. On Dayside, I believe, when pressed about the judges, E said that (and this is approximate, but pretty close), "Simon did what he had to do for TV, but backstage he was harmless and personable." While all Taylor got, according to this interview, was "Cowell's scowl."
E's the best goodwill ambassador they've got...imagine that, especially after how they treated him all season.

ITA, That's the first thing I thought of when I heard Taylor's comments about Simon and how they differed from what Elliott said. I don't know if it's just me, but from some of the interviews Taylor has given, he's had a weird vibe going. Kinda like an ever so slight attitude.
daveylow - June 5, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
Boy, Taylor sounds depressed in the interview. I'm beginning to wonder if all his energy only manifests itself on stage.
I have to say he certainly has been working on his career. He must think Kat is a real amateur.
Edub - June 5, 2006 02:07 AM (GMT)
I think E's overall personality is what makes the difference. I've heard that Tay is pretty intense and serious outside his stage persona.
I think Elliott is truly grateful for his ENTIRE experience on AI- pimped or not. Although I don't think all of AI's treatment of E has been fair from the start- that is the real world and that is the entertainment industry- music industry especially.
I see it this way- Elliott has been able to go through Music Industry 101/Bootcamp in the course of less than a year- the experience and exposure he's got from it- positive or negative will all be immensely useful in his career and I think he's absorbed it all if not most of it- and will be stronger because of it.
I believe that Simon is harsh to an extent for the show- regardless, it's important to take advice out of each criticism one may get- it can only benefit in the long run. I think any of the obstacles that were thrown E's way during this competition will only make him a better person and artist in the long run and am glad that he realizes that and is not bitter over any past events- life is too short to dwell on the drama. :)
ETrain2Luv - June 5, 2006 03:08 AM (GMT)
I thought Taylor was calling Sinmon the Scowl when Simon was judging. Simon isn't like that after the competition is over. then agian Simon didn't care to much about the soulful singers.
E-fan4life - June 5, 2006 03:36 AM (GMT)
Interesting article. I hope Tay Tay stays true to himself and his fans. I am so glad 19 doesn't have E in their clutches.

Boy, after getting a whiff of that Taylor interview, I've been wondering. You think that maybe Elliott sang some of those obscure songs to put himself across as anti-AI material and turn Clive off about signing him? I'm sure, as another poster said, Taylor and Elliott had some late night discussions about AI, and maybe Elliott thought that it wasn't the way he wanted to go.
Secondly, I wonder why Elliott had nice things to say about Simon, but Taylor didn't? I wonder if Simon expected more from Taylor and Chris because they were already performers and cut CD's and saw them as "losers" because they had been in the business that long and still hadn't achieved a certain level of success? To me, it seems like Simon had no respect for Taylor, but he didn't seem to feel the same way about Chris.
Just some food for thought.

you make some good point Bertha- I don't think Simon necessarily saw anyone as a loser-- but it's really hard to know what really went down without being a participant in the show the entire season.
On the part about E choosing obscure songs to be anti AI-- I've actually heard a majority of the songs he chose to perform with the exception of the two Elvis songs and IBITMS so I didn't think they were that obscure. That being said, I think E was just trying to be true to himself and sing songs that spoke to him- which is probably why he was able to deliver them in such a great manner.
As for Tay- from his comments- it seems like he knew what he was getting himself into and was trying to play the game-- thinking that if he won, he'd be able to challenge the establishment- it will be interesting to see how he fares during the rest of the year- I wish him the best of luck- he'll definitely need it.
SoulMusicRocks - June 5, 2006 08:25 AM (GMT)
It sounds like Taylor is going to be quite the rebel. Very cool. Remain true.

Kat has been represented by a talent agency for some time (before Idol).
I don't think Taylor sounds rebellious at all. He says that there's no resistence regarding doing what he wants on his CD.
I wish that he'd explained why being on Idol was like Dancing with the Devil.
meta - June 5, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
Taylor's comments match his many lackluster performances on AI. He did not know what he was getting himself into, so he could of left at any time--Mario did last year.
He will NOT be able to sing whatever he wants. He is under contract now and the material he does will be supplied by his producers and record label. He has no known genre that I can figure out, however, the record company must make money somewhere with some sort of audience. As Clive Davis as stated regarding Taylor, (to paraphrase), the AI audience only constitutes several hundred thousand potential units sold so Taylor MUST be able to appeal to a larger and most likely different audience than the one on AI or even his regional fanbase.
He won because he fan base knew how to use the AI voting system, perhaps it was not even his wish to win. Yet he did and now he best serves himself to as as philosophical as Bo Bice is and just relax and enjoy his dance with the devil.
By the way, when did you first notice that Elliott is far more a class act than Taylor will ever be...he is just more good-hearted and loving by nature. Remember, Simon Cowell said he is the nicest contestant they have ever had on AI. Maybe Tay sees a devil, where Elliott does not.
SoulMusicRocks - June 5, 2006 04:43 PM (GMT)
Taylor has a good voice, but Elliott has an amazing voice. The thing I liked about Taylor was that he was entertaining with his zany/theatrical antics while singing. He has an alright voice, but I firmly believe it was more or less his personality/interaction with the audience that won him American Idol (along with the voting system they figured out). Elliott is a brilliant vocalist to begin with who did not employ any gimmicky antics--he just sang extremely well and allowed the subtle emotion inherent within the lyrics and music to become very powerful. This is why I would laugh everytime anyone made a comment about Elliott not having "personality". So, if he doesn't dance across the stage like Taylor or sit on the floor like Katharine, this detracts from his worth as a vocalist? No way! lol. I'll be honest in saying I would rather have seen a Taylor/Elliott finale or a Chris/Elliott finale than what we got this year, but it is the past now. I would like to see Elliott, Taylor, Chris, Paris, and the others attain their dreams and be successful. I just hope that all turns out well for people that are under contract with AI as well as those who venture to other record labels in pursuit of making an album. It will be interesting to listen to Taylor on CD without there being all of the commotion of a live performance.
lindagt - June 5, 2006 04:56 PM (GMT)
I think Taylor's relationship with AI is going to be rocky because he wants more control than he's going to get. He say he has it now, but he knows better or he wouldn't have made the "dancing with the devil" comment. Still - I don't blame him for feeling that way. However, it is in poor taste for him to say it out loud where all of us can hear it - and just days after he has been handed the whole pie! No, Elliott shows not only class, but wisdom and discretion. Even now, he defends Simon as "not what he appears to be on TV" and I think he chooses to see the good in the people and the opportunities instead of the bad (as we often do). That said, I am sure that Elliott knew what it would be like if he won and feels a little relieved that he is not going to have to be in Taylor's position.

I agree- E's work is cut out for him- but hard work will pay off at the end of the day. I'm hopeful that he'll have more artistic control than if he was under the watchful eye of Evilc [got this from the twop forum-- it's clive spelled backwards] :)

Come on we need about 10 more positives to help us now. :)
