Title: Elliott's versions of songs
jensolo5 - May 19, 2006 02:06 PM (GMT)
OK, i can't seem to sing any of these songs the right way anymore. If one comes on the radio or I download one of the orignals I always sing it wrong.
I'm from Texas so I flip over to country music now and again and I'll be damned if I hammer Garth Brook's "if tomorrow never comes" because i can't remember how it's supposed to go. I sing E's version. LOL
And I'd like to add that I must sound like a real dork copying E's voice. I have NO vibrato and can't riff. LOL But i just loooove singing with his voice.
I put on concerts in my car on the way to and from work every day. Thanks for making the ride less monotanous, E!!!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one belting it out along with E everyday in the car!

Me too! I'm a big Queen fan and I always end up singing Elliott's version of Somebody to Love. I can't even quite remember how the original goes..

To me it's A Song For You - I knew Donny Hathaway's version before and somehow Elliott's version became the definitive version for me (although I don't like the AI arrangement).
BTW, I've heard the original version by Leon Russell lately, it's very different and to me it's the best, but only if you like his particular singing style - he's the least vocalist of the three but he does sound like he's been so many places in his life and hit rock bottom a time or two..

My singing had been a little stagnant before AI started but Elliott really got me to singing again. I love to sing along with him in the car or claening the house.
I'm a HUGE Queen fan but his version of "Somebody To Love" is now my absolute favorite.

Guilty here :P
I cannot sing these songs any other way.
What's great with E is, he almost always does a better version of the songs that the sings. Moody's Mood, Teach Me Tonight, I Dont Want To Be are a few examples.

"I Don't Wanna Be" will never be the same for me ever again!
... also listened to some of the original versions of the songs elliott covered and i always end up gravitating towards elliott's versions.

Me too. Even Trouble...and I'm a big Elvis fan. Elliott..I want to hear Elliott sing it. He did a good job with that song.

I used to hate the song "I Don't Wanna Be," but I love E's version. All those groans... :thud: I'm also a huge Queen fan, with STL as one of my all-time favorites of theirs...but I gotta say, I would rather listen to Elliott's version. He's just THAT good.

Too funny - I always sing along with Elliott - I think I have ALL the riffs memorized, but then why not since they are the ONLY songs I have played since I got them . Have four cds I ordered awhile back collecting dust cuz all I want to hear is Elliott !
Once a song is "Elliotized'" he owns it - sorry Garth , et als, those will never be your songs again . :)

hee hee... so sad but true, I do at least 5 or 6 E songs a day- ASFY is awesome, it totally gets me in a zone when I'm working.

I just want to add that my 11 and 6 yr. olds are singing songs that hey never would've heard if it were left up to me. Thanks to E for introducing us to a new genre of music.
And my 11 yr. old was in a talent show on Friday and a male teacher sang "home" and she said the entire gym was talking about Mr. Haddock singing and Elliott song.
He has left his mark people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
