Title: 3rd place finishers - How have they done?

AllieGator - May 19, 2006 07:25 PM (GMT)
So, I didn't watch Idol religiously until this season. Elliott was the first contestant I ever voted for. So, in saying that, I'm not familiar with any other contestant who has finished 3rd. Are there any successful 3rd finishers out there making music?

:D

gloomyeeyore - May 19, 2006 07:29 PM (GMT)
Well, Kimberly Locke came in third place in season 2 and she has a record deal. I don't know about the others that came in third, I haven't paid that close attention.

AllieGator - May 19, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
Thanks... I've heard of Kimberely Locke. I'll look her up on the web.

goelliott - May 19, 2006 07:31 PM (GMT)
honest, for the most part, not that great. Kimberley Locke from season 2 had a pretty big radio hit, and I know she's working on an album nw. Not sure where the others are. I think Elliott is the best 3rd place finisher, so if anyone will make it, its him (I love Kim L. though)

SFCDADDY - May 19, 2006 07:31 PM (GMT)
Only person I know about that came in third and had modest success is Kimberley Locke from Season two (the Ruben and Clay season). She had two top 40 hits, has signed with Lane Bryant and Ford Models...not too shabby

yellin4yamin - May 19, 2006 07:33 PM (GMT)
and her CD is REALLYYYYYY good too, and I am surprised it didn't do better than it did!! It is kind of R&B/ pop, and really good!! Not sure if her fan base was quite as big, to start with.

mommyto2stinkers - May 19, 2006 07:33 PM (GMT)
What about that Marine, Josh Gracin? Did he not come in 3rd when Clay and Rueben? If so, hes made it big on the Country charts. Hes got an award behind him I think.

lyaminfan - May 19, 2006 07:35 PM (GMT)
Hi Everyone! Nikki was season one, I wouldn't worry about her though. She wasn't good in my opinion. Kim Locke did well from season 2. Season three was Jasmine Trias who has done well overseas I think. Season 4 was Vonzelle Soloman and I haven't heard anything from her. Elliott is the best third place finisher and the only male. I think he will do better than the ladies. I am glad to be here!

AllieGator - May 19, 2006 07:35 PM (GMT)
OH!! Jodh Gracin was on Idol? Well, I've heard one of his songs on the radio. It's GOOD!

I think Josh was in season 2 as well with Clay and Ruben, but I think he came in 4th or something like that because Kimberley came in 3rd.

goelliott - May 19, 2006 07:35 PM (GMT)
Josh was 4th I think. Kim was 3rd that year.

mommyto2stinkers - May 19, 2006 07:36 PM (GMT)
okay so thats great then :D

I'm from Baker, Louisiana, and I saw a commercial not too long ago with a girl named Vonzell from American Idol. She was advertising about some cruise. I got the impression that she was singing on the cruise.

mommyto2stinkers - May 19, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
Hey thats Vonzell Solomon from last season. She was 3rd and a darn good singer! Good for her :D

Josh Gracin was fourth or fifth that season...I'm REALLY surprised at his success...I didn't think anyone would sign him...I thought he was riding the military banner too long.... :bunny:

SFCDADDY - May 19, 2006 07:42 PM (GMT)
Vonzell...I really wish that she would do something; she had such a beautiful voice. And Jasmine Trias is supposedly huge in the Phillipines...

Buñuel_Fan - May 19, 2006 07:53 PM (GMT)
Most of the Idol's that finished in third place haven't done that well. Even LaToya London and Tamyra Gray had lackluster sales and wasn't marketed enough to be nearly as successful as Kelly Clarkson. I think both were signed to indie labels that didn't do a great job putting their names out there. Kimberly Locke is about the only one who was moderately successful with her album. Then again I think Elliott is far more talented than any of the Idol's that finished in third place, and with the right material, there's no doubt in my mind he'll be successful. The main thing I want for Elliott is landing at a great label like Universal, Motown, or Hidden Beach. He needs a label that'll give him artistic freedom and the money to promote his music videos on particular channels such as MTV, VH1 and BET. I've rarely seen anything on television about Kimberly Locke and heard her song a few times on the radio, so we're not reaching for him to be on the same level as Locke. Elliott deserves more than that, IMO.

DON'T!!! There hasn't been a fan craze like this since Clay Aiken...but where is HE now??? Probably on Broadway, like Simon told him his bread and butter would be. We LOVE Elliott and with that kind of love and support, Elliott is gonna be HUGE...

JUST WAIT.....and BELIEVE :groupwave:

SFCDADDY - May 19, 2006 08:00 PM (GMT)
Actually I expected to see more out of Tamyra Gray...she was the Favorite in Season One, before Kelly broke out...and what has she really done? Besides write a couple of songs and star on Boston Public (thanx to the AI hype after the boot)...Her own album went nowhere...

dcmdf - May 19, 2006 08:04 PM (GMT)
I never like ANY singer, celeb or anyone in the public eye like this, so it's hard for me to think of Elliott as singing on a cruise ship some day.

THwrites - May 19, 2006 08:09 PM (GMT)
While not many third place finishers did well, I don't think any compare to Elliott. None of the others were given the props that Elliott received. "Best male vocalist" "Vocal Master Class" Etc...

I expect big things from our boy. I think he's going to surprise, if not STUN the naysayers. We all know he's going to be big. My only problem is that we have to wait to see the results.

I'll be honest. I'm having a hard time being patient. I really can't wait to rub their noses in it. Yeah, I know that's petty, but after the way our boy was treated by AI and the news media, I think we're allowed to gloat BIG TIME when it happens. Elliott WILL be bigger than AI, bigger than anyone could have ever imagined.

I think you're right.
I'm impatient also.
He has to go through this while tour, but knowing E, he'll continue to have the time of his life on this tour.

moonlight - May 19, 2006 08:14 PM (GMT)
Ok, as soon as the AI CD comes out, we all need to request radio stations to play Elliott's MMFL. We got him on the charts with just his performance of ASFY! We can get him way UP the charts with MMFL since it's a whole song! :cheerleader:

dcmdf - May 19, 2006 08:15 PM (GMT)
So the CD comes out on may 23rd?

moonlight - May 19, 2006 08:17 PM (GMT)
That's what I've heard. We have to get him to the top of the charts! :bounce:

Tamyra Gray has done VERY WELL. She does ALOT of acting and she is writting for others. She wrote and song for Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia both.

In that respect, yes, Tamyra has been successful. But as far as her record sales, it hasn't been that great for her. And that's really sad because I do honestly think she was vocally better than Kelly Clarkson, and if she was in the finale with Kelly, I think she would've won. Tamyra only sold 122,000 off her debut album. LaToya London (maybe the greatest female vocalist in American Idol history) sold just 50, 000 off her debut CD. It has everything to do with how these indie companies didn't market them enough on MTV, VH1 and BET. Nor have I heard any of their songs on the radio played constantly (especially compared to Kelly, Ruben and Fantasia).

I'm not trying to be negative or anything, but I'm just saying that Elliott has to be wise and careful on which label he signs with, because he doesn't deserve to suffer the same fate as London and Gray.

nicoleeann - May 19, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
Kimberly Locke was the only 3rd placer that even compared to Elliott.....
I really like her voice-she had a hit called 8th world wonder and also a christmas song that did well.
Her voice was not nearly as good as Ells
She also lacked his personality and sex appeal.
So, he should do alot better.
The other 3rd placers are Nikki McKibbon (Not so good)
Jasmine Trias (voice wasn't that great)
and Vonzell (too screechy)

Tamyra Gray was given huge accolades and was thought that she might win. I think the reason her CDs aren't so huge is that she is working as an actress, a songwriter and a recording artist.

elviselvis - May 19, 2006 10:55 PM (GMT)
don't know about the other singers but heard Jasmine Trias sing a few times. she sucks. don't know how she finished 3rd. LaToya London was ten times better than her.

Do we have to buy the whole CD? Or can we just download Elliott's contribution somewhere? Honestly, I don't want to hear the others. I'm just interested in his voice.

girlRUN44 - May 20, 2006 12:37 AM (GMT)
this might not be what you want to hear, but i hope a bigger label is interested in him. Even if he has to do some shitty work, he'll get radio play/promotions that could eventually help him in the future when he makes a real and solid cd.

He needs to be heard, i don't want to see him at festivals or cruise ships. i'm still bitter, so don't take offense to what i say...

cazinblack - May 20, 2006 12:39 AM (GMT)
Don't give a toss how any of 'em have done, our E is different, and he's gonna be HUGE! and without selling out too :D

Yes, you're right. Many of the third place finishers got there due to things other than their singing. People knew who the odd man out was in Jasmine's and Nikki's year. They didn't belong there. Elliott is more along the lines of Vonzell and Kim Locke's year, but he's a better singer than them, and he's a better singer obviously than the two left standing. He's different.

dcmdf - May 20, 2006 12:47 AM (GMT)
I think on the 23rd we should launch a massive downloading and requesting crusade fro MMFL

That'll show 'em.

I feel like I have a purpose :)

nicoleeann - May 20, 2006 12:51 AM (GMT)
I think that Elliott could be considered similar to Clay Aiken in terms of quality of voice, personality, niceness, humbleness, and popularity.
Remember how popular Clay was back then?
And Elliott is much sexier and he doesn't have a questionable sexuality.
