Title: Sytycd - Elimination Nights
Description: Your Thoughts on Who Went and Why

ElliottCat - June 22, 2006 07:46 AM (GMT)
Thought I'd start a topic here for discussion tomorrow night after the next two are eliminated. Maybe we could keep the SYTYCD thread for the show reviews on Tuesdays and this thread for discussion on Wednesday eliminations.

First, is the show on at 9:00 PM eastern time tomorrow? I somehow lost my teevee logs this week? Anyone know?

ElliottCat - June 23, 2006 01:26 AM (GMT)
Well, the bottom three have been announced. I'm predicting the two to go will be:

Joy (for sure)

and

Dimitry (unless he does a solo that is very strong and unique)

or

Ryan

We'll see

I'm thinking Joy and I'm not sure about the guys yet.

Well, Dimitri DID do something unique with his limited latin style (not to say it isn't stunning, however, but it didn't help Stanislav). Loved the bolero duds!

But, don't forget that the judges look at what the partnerships would be with the eliminations. I do not think they would put Heidi with Dimitry since they are dancers of the same style (well almost), and Heidi is short.

Dimitry may be in danger.

Jason and Ryan and Aleksandra to go!

ElliottCat - June 23, 2006 01:34 AM (GMT)
Oops, I got Ryan and Jason mixed up. Ryan will NOT go. He is a lyrical dancer...no way.

Jason or Dimitry

IBelieveToMySoul - June 23, 2006 01:36 AM (GMT)
I didn't like Aleksandra's at all.

I'm thinking Joy and Dmitry. I'm not sure though.

ElliottCat - June 23, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
Ok, Aleksandra had a major "give up" attitude, so she may just be the one to go. She had no PUNCH in her dance at all, but the moves and flow were nice. Can't see them booting her, but she came off as giving up and Nigel DETESTS that.

Jason should go.

Alexandra and Dimitry would be great together, at least in the way they LOOK. It's obvious that Dimitry needs a break and an opportunity to work it. If Aleks and Dimitry don't do well next week, then we will know they are weaker dancers for this competition.

We shall see.

IBelieveToMySoul - June 23, 2006 01:49 AM (GMT)
Joy is out.

I was right...

ElliottCat - June 23, 2006 01:52 AM (GMT)
First prediction RIGHT.

The fact that Aleksandra stayed leads me to think that Dimitry will stay, but you can see he is VERY worried. But HE did NOT give up on his dance.

Jason will go.

Is Jason the hip-hop guy or the other guy (lyrical or whatever he is)?

I'm too lazy to go to the SYTYCD website.

Nm, he's hip-hop.

Jason's out.

ElliottCat - June 23, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
WOW, Alexandra STILL looked PATHETIC at the end of the show, as if, "Do I really have to be partners with HIM?"

What is her problem?

And, when I saw Jason's goodbye video, I was sad to see him go. He is truly a fine dancer. But, Ryan is too.

So, the potential TCO's are emerging. The male elimination, tonight, was based on who they had to KEEP to partner with Aleksandra and prevent Ryan from being eliminated. It was not a good choice for the judges, so I guess there WILL be moments that are not pleasing to them.

Ben has his fans...I see a Taylor Hicks there. But, it can't end like that with the judges making the final decisions. But, my guess is that the FIRST opportunity that arises, Ben will be gone.

I will not vote, I will not vote, I will not vote, I will not v.....

ElliottCat - June 23, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
Hi Berkana,

I agree that Ben is a good solo dancer, but he won't be doing that for a long time. His attitude sucks and I THINK that matters to the judges (as well as looks...Ben really needs to get rid of the hair...he looks like a disco dancer from the early 80's). Still, attitude did not matter with Aleksandra, although hers wasn't so much negative as it was RESIGNED (and the judges hate that too), but they kept her in based on potential and looks.

If the judges are faced with a difficult choice as they were, tonight, and Ben is amongst those choices, he will go. (Barring major mess-ups.) I know the judges were hoping Ivan would be in that bottom three to make tonight's elimination easier. Oh well.

So, we move on.

And no I do NOT have to vote, IBelieve. At least not yet....hee hee

Yes you do! You know you want to!

ElliottCat - June 23, 2006 02:19 AM (GMT)
I was too harsh on Aleksandra for her demeanor at the end of the show. She was upset that her partner got kicked off and probably blaming herself. This is a dancer who knows she should have gone (like Ashlee did last week...and probably this week, too).

Joy was "the untrained one" and was a large target.

Jason was too hiphop, but boy did he have some lovely lyrical and contemporary moves in his hat! And, taller than Ryan...I think I would have stayed with Jason. But, in looks, Ryan had it. Heidi too short for Dimitry and too GOOD for Dimitry. It had to be Jason.

What a puzzle it all is.

akaphd08 - June 23, 2006 02:22 AM (GMT)
I just posted this in the other thread...

Can someone please explain to me why they kept Ryan over Jason!? Jason has consistently been better than Ryan (high marks on all his dances... only brought down because of his partner Alexs who got to stay this week)... while Ryan has no chemistry with Heidi... has only done so-so on his routines, and only did so so on his bottom three performance.

I'm really surprised that Jason got the boot instead of Ryan

Hi Akaph....welcome to my home! Have some shrimp.

I responded to this post in the other thread. And, the same thoughts on it are posted here, just BEFORE you posted.

Gonna check out the scary boards. I'm sure they're abuzz, although it doesn't appear that anyone's major faves were voted off tonight.

Amunet - June 23, 2006 04:21 AM (GMT)
Woops... wish I had seen this thread before I posted in the other one heh.

As I said there though... they should've gotten rid of Dimitry.
Yeah he kicked butt with the ballroom, but I dunno... I still can't get that hiphop routine out of my head.

And as for the girl.. meh....I liked Joy better than the other girl.
That other girl.. whatever her name is is just getting on my nerves.
She STRUGGLED WITH DOING HER OWN FREAKING STYLE LAST WEEK!!!
And don't even get me started on that pathetic attempt of hers tonight during her solo... BLEH.....

Joy was "the untrained one" and was a large target.

Joy was trained...she just wasn't as good.
And did you see the video of them practicing where her partner was getting mad at her and said "you were the one who didn't want to practice"

Well...I'm sure that showed the judges a little bit about her work ethic.
She def deserved to go.

Alex...she looked like she had already lost...so I was surprized she wasn't the one to go actually.

I just can't wait to see Benji dance next week!

efunk_adelic - June 23, 2006 07:25 PM (GMT)
it seems Ryan is getting a lot of hate because of his attitude at the beginning... he was stronger than the one that got eliminated though.

he will be in the hot seat this week.

Ha ha thanks so much for you reviews... REALLY cleared things up... now I see how the game is played :(

I think Musa or Travis is going to win it all

alysoup - June 24, 2006 12:05 AM (GMT)
Jason def. deserved to go out of the three. He looked so uncontrolled and retarded.

I enjoy reading your analysis Elliottcat. I also tend to agree with you on a lot; but as far as Heidi being too good for Dmitry (I find it hard  to spell his name this way even though that's how it's spelled on the SYTYCD boards), I have to respectfully disagree. Technically, Dmitry appears to be quite superior (in latin at least) to anyone out there, imho. He's just understated and quiet and of course the language thing plays a part as well in what appears to be his shy demeanor on camera. Heidi is more of an in-your-face dancer. Don't get me wrong, I like her. She's full of fire and has a lot of spunk and is actually somewhat aggressive (even by her own admission during the pairing-off show). Dmitry, on the other hand, comes across as somewhat "back-seat-ish", if you know what I mean. Or may be he's just a good politician, like Nigel said. Either way, I still think he is - by far - the more solid and technically sound dancer of the two.

I also agree that the judges wouldn't have paired Dmitry and Heidi up because they're both latin dancers; but there's something even more prohibitive than that: sometime prior to SYTYCD, they were actual competing partners while Benji was away on his church mission, according to one of the boards.

Just got back from a week at the beach to read everyone's interesting comments. If I had my druthers, Joy and Alex would have gone home and all three guys would have continued. That would certainly shake things up!

H-bomb - June 28, 2006 07:52 AM (GMT)
Ok, so this is about, oh 120 hours late, but here it is anyway:

Recap- Elimination #2:

Alrighty! Can I get another HOLY FREAKIN DANCE MEDLEY!!! Rock my world, SYTYCD, ROCK IT EVERY WEEK! GAH, that was INCREDISOME and FANTABULOUS! And then Rickey of rickey.org decides to attend to other business and doesn't have the video on his site... bah. Whatever, so I only got to watch it once, but: I LOVED it. Confession: didn't love it quite as much as last week, but I don't like Dan Karaty all that much either and since it was he who choreographed, I give the dancers a free pass for the week- can't wait til the next mish-mosh medley... and Woo-HAH!

Ah, we get to see extra background behind-the-scenes top-secret footage! I like this part... ok, ok, waiting for some excitement and AW YEAH! $hit's GOin DOWN!!! Joy & Dmitry- WOAH NELLY! Says Dmitry, as they're totally sucking in rehearsal, "Somebody didn't want to practice..." Hmm, wonder who that somebody could be... Joy, have you a rebuttal? "I just smile." Hmmm, good insight. Well, yes you do Joy, and that's why you will be in the bottom three couples tonight. And probably going home...

Ok, so first we have Jaymz/Jyzzikaw vs Ben/Ashlee vs Dmitry/Joy and the losers are........... Dmitry/Joy, no surprise.

Travis/Martha vs Musa/Natalee vs Benji/Donyelle... these people should all be safe........... and they are.

Jason/Aleks vs Ryan/Heidi vs Ivan/Allison, oh I don't know which mmm,,,,,,, ah, losing teams are Jason/Aleks & Ryan/Heidi...

"Lawdy, Lawdy save my SOOOOUUUUUL from elimination" dance time:

Joy: well, she likes to dance in bras: brightly colored, sparkly ones. Her dancing is fine, but I'm still contemplating the bra. I wonder what this says about her? Fixation on undergarments = mental inability to allow the mindset necessary to adapt to forms of dance outside those with which she is familiar? Could be...

Dmitry: those are some bizarre PANTS, yet his solid, masterful moves put me in a TRANCE, and I do think he has a CHANCE, for that was certainly a politically correct STANCE, in regards to the past night's DANCE. That was fun, so he was good and he responded very well to the question about if Joy let him down- the bit about them not approaching their partnership in the best way. Props to you Dmitry, you're on my good people list. By the way Dmitry- YES, she let you down, b/c, like she said, all she does is smile.

Heidi: ok what the cr@p are these women WEARING tonight? And, I still love Heidi, but, watching her "ballroom" herself alone on the floor makes me worry very much for when she gets contemporary. I talked about this in the other SYTYCD thread- she's so very good at her particular ballroom stylings that she is too stiff right now. We KNOW TPTB want a lyrical dancer to win, and having her dance ballroom so rigidly is not winning her any brownie points... Wow, and she rambles a bit when she's nervous. HOLY BEAUTY PAGEANT ANSWER, MISS CONGENIALITY...

Ryan: he does ballet/lyrical, it's really good, but not great, and I hate him b/c he's a jerk. Jerk.

Aleks: She confused me, it was kinda good... but pointless. Passionless. When you perform the style she claims her best, there is supposed to be a REASON behind the movements. Modern & contemporary are hard for people to understand to begin with, but if even YOU don't know why you're performing the moves, there is no dance. So, it was interesting, but wrong. I'd like her to go home tonight, but I think it will be Joy...

Jason: I know a lot of people don't/aren't going to like this, b/c it's somewhere between popping and hiphop and jazz. A lot of people are going to think it's random and ugly and easy. But, I'm going to say I liked it. A lot. I thought it was cool and different, plus he was great in the hiphop dance the night before, and I like him. They should keep him over Ryan for sure...

Guest performance tonight by Rhianna, singing her S.O.S song, which I happen to like... and, can we all say LIP SYNCH MUCH??? If you're not going to sing, at least DANCE for me, or something. Yes, you're gorgeous, but if I wanted to stare at you, I'd buy a poster. DANCE PUPPET!!! Ugh, I hate lip synching. Maybe NEXT week we'll get a guest performer with the balls to sing and actually MOVE around the stage, rather than just strut from one side to the other...

Girls: Ok, since I'm writing this a week after the fact, I can't remember which girl he labelled the best. I'm going to pretend it was Heidi, b/c she was the best of the 3. So, he tells Heidi he loves her, then he tells Joy something, but I don't pay attention b/c I don't care really and he tells Aleks that her "lawdy, lawdy save my SOOOOUUUL from elimination" dance read more like "it's cool if you want to send me home, yeah, it's ok" - or something like that. And then it's Joy who's going home. Which is good, b/c Joy was the weakest dancer this week, and she wasn't great last week (Aleks had the same style this week and did better with it). AND, now Dmitry won't have to deal with her... Now if Ryan goes home, Dmitry & Heidi will partner....

Ok, cut and dry, who's out: Nigel gives the boys the spiel, tells Dmitry he's great, talks to Jason and Ryan and tells Jason he's- WHAT?? NOT AGAIN. G*d, Ryan, you're such a jerk. Now you got Jason ousted. I was liking him. Jason was not my favorite, but he has a WAAAAAY better attitude than you, Ryan. And he was good. Ryan, you and your ballet-dancing butt are on my THINGS THAT SUCK list. Jerk.

So, Joy goes home b/c she WAS worse than Aleksandra both weeks. Although I think Joy MIGHT have had it in her to be the better dancer, she had the same attitude as her pal Erin- since she's good at dance tricks and does well in competition, the other dance forms should be easy. "I just smile," that statement says it all. THAT is why she went home. As for Jason, he should've stayed, and I'll go all TPTB on this one: Dmitry partnering Heidi would've been phenomenal, PLUS, we know that Ryan claims he got over hating Heidi, but since that's a lie, we can expect more drama with him staying. Why? Because he's a jerk. Jerk.

meta - June 28, 2006 03:05 PM (GMT)
H-Bomb, thanks for the recap. Where would I get a good morning laugh without you?

Did you notice my comment just above yours, I thought you would appreciate it.

And, I liked the Dimitry chaps thing, when he swirled about it looked like Yul Brenner in the King and I or something. And I thought Musa had a body!

I don't count Heidi out just yet. I love her competitive spirit and I believe she will come up to the mark once she gets rid of her partner...he is just too annoying because he THINKS she's the problem!

As for Aleks, I think she goes this next week because she doesn't have it...dancers have to be cocky: both Heidi and Allison last week showed that when the back is to the wall a dancer WANTS to do a solo. Did you notice Dimitry's face when he realized he was going to get yet another unfortunate partner? I just hope he can give her some confidence ala Benji and Donyelle. Regrettably, the pairing of Dim and Al is a mismatch body-wise.

By the way, Jaymze and Jess really performed this week. I think they are the best pairing again body-wise. They just seem to be on the same page. Now that girl also shows some competitive fire. They might be the dark horse couple in the bunch.

ElliottCat - June 29, 2006 05:01 AM (GMT)
Hey H-Bomb,

You brought up something in your review that reminded me of something I wanted to comment on. I noticed that the bottom three always have to dance for their lives "in their own style." So, it appears to me that they have no choice but to dance whatever style of dance they did during auditions.

As noted, this does make it difficult for the partner styles (Dimitry, Heidi, Benji) to come off well. These folks need to have the ability to change it up some to show off their creativity and versatility, especially as the contest goes on and they are all learning new styles. I wonder if this will change? After all, we KNOW the judges are looking ONLY at the ones who can do Celine's show as those with a chance to make it. I say, give them a chance to prove it if they're in the bottom three.

I'm a little disappointed that Dmitry (I know that's not spelled right, but I tried) is in the bottom 3.

Even though I have the biggest crush on Musa, I really think he should have been in the bottom 3-- not that I want him to actually go home yet. . .

:woot: Oh I love this song that Ben's dancing to. Lifehouse is such a great band!

tufntender - June 30, 2006 01:30 AM (GMT)
I am sure dmitry is only in the bottom becaus of Alexa, hopefully he gets the "popper for a partner after they give her the boot :0

Or Jessica if Jaymz goes home...

and yes Musa deserved to be in the bottom. He was one of my favs, together with Benji and Travis, but I don't think he is versatile enough.

tufntender - June 30, 2006 01:35 AM (GMT)
