I might watch. What time is it? (And what channel? :justkidding: Duh, it's the BET Awards!)
I wanna see Chris Brown!

I'll be watching the BET Awards tonight. There are usually some special surprises each year so I can't wait to see what's in store tonight. Last year's show was really good, so we'll see if BET can top themselves. I look forward to seeing Elliott as a nominee and performer at the BET Awards in the future.
AgentScully - June 27, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
Thanks! Those sound like some good performers.
Love OutKast, Rhianna, and Beyonce. Jamie Foxx is alright, too.

That would be cool if one day Elliott was nominated. :D
Last year's show was pretty awesome! The Fugees Reunion, Stevie Wonder with John Legend, the controversial Destiny's Child performance  and Fantasia showing out on the gospel song with Tye Tribbett.
Wow! I didn't even know if I was going to watch this year, but after recalling last year's show, I think I will.
tufntender - June 28, 2006 12:05 AM (GMT)
the show just kicked off where I am at, , I heard on my Radio station said that Prince was closing the show.
Last years mo-nique's performing with the full figured ladies was priceless. I like Chris Brown too, that boy can dance and sing.
And one of my fav is nominated for an award ( Anthony Hamilton.)
The show has been getting better every year.
Tehy just mentioned Fantasia too, and Chaka Khan is going to get a lifetime achievement award....phew. lots going on...:)

OMG! I think I just saw Ace Young in the audience at the BET Awards right after they announced the winner for the Best Gospel Artist award! If that really was him, I'm willing to bet some other contestants were there too. :)

Both Ace and Paris are there. Ace has been to several BET events recently, which shows Clive will probably sign him. I just wish Mr. "White Chocolate" could've been there!

i'm watching it now but i missed the first 30/35 minutes. i saw photos online of what looks like Fantasia and Jamie Foxx kissing on the lips. did they perform together, what's the deal with that?
tufntender - June 28, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
yeah Fantasia and Jamie Foxx did a duet, at the end they were smooching. There may have even been some tongue involved :)
Mary J was great. I loved the Busta Rhymes performance,...yeah all the male hip hop artisr/ rappers guys represented. Even EMINEM was there
When it came to Chaka Khan all the females showed up, with Prince playing guitar and doing "Rufus" In "Tell me something good" I enjoyed the show, but hated the host , especially when he made fun of the deaf.
Chris Brown was da Bomb, like I said, he reminds me of a young michael Jackson, boy can sing and dance.
My Man Anthony Hamilton didn't win for best R& B artis, but hey..he lost to Prince...that is nothing to be ashamed of.

Yes, Fantasia was a surprise guest during Jamie Foxx's performance. She's still an electric performer and she has plenty of spunk. She easily matched Jamie's energy, but the kiss was a little weird.
That is the second time I have seen the two of them perform together and get really all up on each other. I don't know what to think about that, but I still like them.
My favorite part of the show was the Busta Rhymes performance because brought out so many artists that are a part of the remixes of "Touch It". I was surprised that he was able to get almost everybody who's on the song to actually perform at the show: Mary J. Blige, Rah Digga, Lloyd Banks, Missy Elliott and the shocker: EMINEM!! He's not even on the original record! That was pretty cool!

I'm with you. I wanted to see Anthony Hamilton win something, but I definitely couldn't be mad about him losing to Prince.
IBelieveToMySoul - June 28, 2006 03:22 AM (GMT)
Dang it... I forgot to watch.
Can you guys fill me in on who won awards?
tufntender - June 28, 2006 03:24 AM (GMT)
yeah, the Busta performance deffo the highlight. I listened to my local r&B/Hip hop station this evening before the show kicked off and they were speculating about whose performance they would be talking about tomorrow, and the female DJ was adamant that it was going to be Busta Rhymes.
He pulled out all the stops. Not an artist I like to listen to per se, but to see him perform live is definately something. He has got some energy and his 3 year hiatus didn't hurt him one bit.
tufntender - June 28, 2006 03:26 AM (GMT)
and to add. I cannot believe "anthony Hamilton has not been more recognized. The man is just brilliant. I have all his CD's and hardly anyone I know is aware of him , unless I turned them on to him. what's up with that...ok rant ova
tufntender - June 28, 2006 03:28 AM (GMT)
uhhm awards...all I remember is Prince for best R&B, Chris Brown for new artist , MJB for best female r7b, Missy Elliott won something, TI, won best male, Kirk Franklin best gospel

I feel you.
I wish more people knew about Anthony Hamilton. He has such a classic soul vibe. It's so refreshing. And I absolutely love his voice!
He may not have the most commercial success, but he is one of the greatest R&B singers out today. He is just underappreciated (sort of like Donny Hathaway in his day).

I love all three especially Kirk (ask Danielle!)
GO KIRK!!!!! :D :D :D :D (and Chris and Mary)
:rocker:
designer4elliott - June 28, 2006 03:33 AM (GMT)
yes, i loved the Busta performance as well! it was electrifying! the only thing i wished was that Kelis was spotlighted a bit more. love her - can't wait for the new album. mary j was awesome in the busta performance, and is such a class act all the way around. she's so poised.
i have to watch this again! like i said, i only watched the first 30/35 minutes but i missed fantasia & jamie, jay-z & beyonce, keyshia cole, and even more, i think.
PS: in my next life, i want to come back as beyonce. she is SO gorgeous, although i wasn't loving the silver outfit...

Chaka Khan got a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Harry Belafonte received the Humanitarian Award.
Kanye/Jamie won for Best Duo or Collaboration. (I kind of wanted to see Busta get that one).
And Video of the Year was a tie: Mary J. Blige - Be Without You and Kanye/Jamie - Gold Digger.
That's all I remember.

OMG! Beyonce tore it up! I'm not even usually a fan of hers! But the woman is a born entertainer!
BTW, I kind of like the outfit and the hair was fierce. She made sure to get her money's worth out of it too with all that rolling her neck around.
tufntender - June 28, 2006 03:44 AM (GMT)
you know that's right, I didn't mention Chaka Khan and all that because Iposted it at the beginning of the thread..., so didn't want to repeat myself..
Was a little disappointed in Prince's solo performance, 3121 is not my fav, I love Beautiful....Lovely... Lolita, Black sweat, the title song just didn't grab me..
But it was good to see him , how bizarre he i is a Jehova's witness, but he must have found the fountain of youth , because the dude didn't age since I first saw him in the late 80's ..what's up with that ???

What did you think of the "Good Times" cast reuinion with JJ, Thelma, Michael and Lil' Penny (Janet Jackson)?
I though that was a cute moment and Janet is looking so good! I'm mad about it!
And I like Damon Wayans, but I'm not sure he was fit to host the BET Awards. He just didn't seem to connect with the audience.
tufntender - June 28, 2006 04:11 AM (GMT)
I really didn't like Damon Wayans, he was off most of the time , had a rough start and nmade a boo-boo with his joke about the deaf..Very tacky IMO. The reunion was sweet. Janetr looked great, she drinks/or bathes in the same fountain of youth with Prince.
I am sure of it..
I just had E come up in my song rotation, which entails several hundreds, so if you want to tLK ABOUT THAT, CHECK OUT MY THREAD ON MUSIC...
oops didn't mean to holler stry about caps...:)
But it was a good show, to me Mariah Carey was missing, she had a lot of attention this past year, I love circles and a lot of her songs,
