Hello All,

I noticed that the Project Runway first episode starts tonight/July 12th...a week earlier than what was in the local listings.

Last night they ran the episode where Tim Gunn went to the auditions. In LA, he was joined by Santino from last year, while in Miami he was joined by Chloe, and in NY, Daniel was a guest judge.

The contestants get their first assignment tonight.

I loved Nick from last year. Did not like Santino, hated his designs and he grossed me out!

Christine,

Thanks for reminding me. Nick was a guest judge when they visited Chicago.

I was hoping he would make the top three also.

Sk8888

p.s. Chloe decided NOT to move to New York, and used her money to expand her store, trick it out and hire some people. She said there is enough demand for her design in Texas, and her family and boyfriend are there, so she's staying.

kristene5 - July 13, 2006 05:10 AM (GMT)

I am happy for Chloe. I will be in Houston (idol tour, yeah!) for 3 days and I want to check out her store.

I watched tonight , I can't remember anybody's name, but I actually liked a lot of the designs. Loved the coat, the white coffee filter dress, the navy dress and others I cannot remember. I did not like the tatoo guy who designs like Santino. I was hoping he would go.

There is way too many reality shows on right now! I cannot keep up! I am watching Hells Kitchen, SYTYCD, BB, & Project Runway. I was going to watch Rock Star, but I can't handle another show.

akaphd08 - July 13, 2006 05:19 AM (GMT)
can someone summarize what happened? who got kicked off and why? what was the big "shocker" tim gunn mentioned inthe previews??

H-bomb - July 13, 2006 06:16 AM (GMT)
I'm not recapping this show- no way, no how- it already takes me a week just to recap the 2 nights of "So You Think You Can Dance"!!!

BUT, I completely LOVE this show, so I'm happy to inform you the BIG SHOCKER wasn't on tonight's episode. Blast that editing team!

The person kicked off was a lady with the last name "Estrella" (I only remember b/c I was all- Oh, that's Spanish for star!)... she was booted b/c her dress was not sufficiently innovative (and it was the "Innovation Challenge") and not well-executed (as in, you could see through it and Estrella's attempt to be cute and make a pair of "sexy" panties to go under the dress failed as the "sexy" panties were dubbed by Mr. Kors to be "granny panties").

Yay! Fashion! Lighten up it's just FASHION!... but where the HELL is my chiffon???

Estrella was in over her head. She did not know how to use the industrial sewing machines, and had to hand sew everything. Gotta know how to use the equipment baby!!

As a side note, they did this text messaging thing on who "you thought should go" before the judges announced the bottom three. As Michael Kors (sp?) says, "Less is More." Who needs this text messaging b.s., especially if it's going to be a spoiler of sorts??

I was also bummed out when I watched next week's previews and they showed at least two of the contestants who are going to be in the bottom 3. Does someone at Project Runway want to sabotage this season? Please leave us some surprises.

I missed the first episode. i lose.

But, I have been watching the vids on the website, and looked at the pictures of what they designed. and based on that, I have my favorites.

Bonnie, Jeffrey, Michael, Robert. In no particular order.

I would really like to recap this show but I'm not sure if i have the time.

Dearst Project Runway watchers..

Found this link on Rickey.

Controversy?

oh heck ill just paste it.

'Project Runway 3' Contestant May Have Cheated His Way Into Heidi Klum's Heart

Promos for upcoming episodes of Project Runway hint at a controversy to come, in which Tim Gunn alludes to a crime of fashion so unforgivable that it leads to the unprecedented expulsion of a contestant from the series. It's precisely the kind of mystery best suited for the communal detective work of the internets: A tip on Television Without Pity accusing last week's challenge winner Keith Michael of having stolen several designs in his audition portfolio led commenters of bulletin board the Fashion Spot to do some digging. Amazingly, what emerged was that the thieving designer was also a lazy one: Michael's sketches are almost exact copies of the original runway photos lifted off fashion sites such as Style.com and Elle.com.

Even more unbelievably, a commenter points out that in the case of the Giambattista Valli ripoff (pictured right), Runway judge Nina Garcia appears to be sitting in the front row. It's not clear when we'll find out if fashion-savvy netizens have fingered the correct culprit, but feel free to e-mail theories and suitable punishment suggestions to BravoTV.com. (We heartily endorse four weeks of forced footrubs and pedicure duty for Michael Kors.)

He should've gone home! I think he's gonna end up being like this season's Santino

As for Malan.....sure he seems kinda creepy and reminds me of Austin Powers-meets-Daniel Franco (last season's contestant who came back from Season 1 and seems to have an unhealthy obsession with Heidi), but at least he has integrity. Did you hear the sketch story though? Man if his parents treated him like that no WONDER he ended up like he is now....

Yeah I could go on and on, I actually love Project Runway way more than AI. The only reason I like AI is the contestants, but the show is totally unfair and rigged.

akaphd08 - July 20, 2006 03:55 AM (GMT)
malan shouldn't have gone home :(

Sk8888 - July 20, 2006 06:56 AM (GMT)
Okay, here goes: WEEK TWO Project Runway Recap:

Theme: Design the evening gown that Miss America will wear as she competes in the Miss Universe contest.

All contestants are asked to create a design after Tara Connors, (sp?) explains what she wants. (She will be one of the shortest contestants, she expressed a leaning toward earth tone colors and did NOT want the focus to be on her bust. She also mentioned she would prefer NOT to wear a white gown.)

All 14 contestants pitched a design and then seven were chosen. The seven "designers" then got to pick a partner as their names were called out randomly.
The teams ended up being, (designers name first in each):

Keith/Bradley
Uli & Bonnie
Vincent & Angela
Laura & Michael
Malan & Katherine
Jeffrey & Allison
Kane (sp?) and Robert

Part II .....coming up.

Sk8888 - July 20, 2006 07:18 AM (GMT)
Recap of Week 2....Part II...see Part I in the post above

So everyone runs out to get their fabric. Right away there is a problem between Vincent, (the 49-year-old trying to make his design comeback,) and Angela, the contestant from OH-HI-OH....she makes Vincent nervous by constantly telling him how much time they have left, and being worried.

Back at Parsons, it just gets worse, Vincent is kind of doing his own thing, and Angela is upset that she isn't participating, but she finds Vincent's design something that is too simple, something she designed in college. So, they are NOT clicking, and part of the judging is how well you work as a team.

They show all other teams working pretty well.

The following day the focus is on Malan and his partner Katherine. She is looking very worried as the gown that Malan has designed turns out to be too short, and way too busy. The color of the fabric is some "earthy" brown, but it just looks heavy. What woman wants to look 10 pounds heavier than she already is?

More fighting between Vincent and Angela, and everyone knows they will turn on one another if they end up in the bottom.

Now for the runway show itself:

Keith & Bradley, some pink number, they are safe
Uli & Bonnie, a two-tone beigy flowy number the judges call "modern" and backless. This is the first runner up. They are both safe.
Laura & Michael -- very Laura, very beautiful, but WHITE and that was specifically not a color that the "client" wanted. They are both safe.
Jeffrey(tattoo/rocker) & Allison -- some beige thing. Forgettable, but both are safe
Kane and Robert -- The winners with an iridescent material that has a plum colortone to it, with ruffles starting at the knees. You may remember that Kane has a store in the Midwest selling prom & wedding gowns, while Robert is the former Barbie Doll clothes designer. They worked well together and executed to the tee.

Bottom two teams:

Malan & katherine....Katherine is safe. Judges thought the design failed miserably. The color was wrong, it was heavy looking, the hem was a mess, total amatuer league.

Vincent & Angela...the judges actually thought Vincent's design was classic and loved the back with the nice straps. (I LOVED the color, but I'm a peridot nut.)...Vincent is safe....the judges say Angela failed the "team."

Bottom two contestants:

Malan & Angela.

For some reaon, they sent Malan home instead of Angela. I would have sent Angela home. All of the other contestants saw her true colors, and will be steering clear of this beyotch.

Sorry Malan, we didn't get a chance to know yah! Good luck!!

wee_moggie - July 21, 2006 05:48 AM (GMT)
I was really shocked that they booted off Malan, especially after what he said about how his mother ruined his sketches. Then he said that he didn't have many friends, and that he was finally feeling like he was a part of something, and now it's over.... :(

I don't understand why everyone liked Vincent's dress. Apart from those weird shoulders, it looked pretty plain to me, but all the judges thought it was "different." He just bugs me. I know things didn't go well with Angela, but did he really have to say that making the dress with her was "the nightmare of my life"? Who knows, maybe it was. I was laughing when he told Angela, "I need you to back up three feet away from me!" :D

Sk8888 - July 21, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
Yes, I was a little surprised that they let Malan go.

When you recall all of the design nightmares that Santino survived last year, you would think they would have cut the designer some slack, rather than the designer assistant.

That being said, I would NOT have wanted to be a part of Vincent's team. He's someone I don't see lasting too much longer.

Here is the entire summary of the episode's moral: and, once again, the pattern holds true: in a group design challenge, if you are called out for some poor design and you admit to being the one responsible and the one who should go home- YOU WILL GO HOME. The end.

It sucks doesn't it? That's what happened to Daniel Franco last year, but actually, that wasn't such a bad idea cause he was acting reaaallly creepy at the reunion episode

akaphd08 - July 22, 2006 07:43 AM (GMT)
Ugh, I hated Vincent (and Andrea's by default) design! It looked like an off the rack prom dress from a cheap store. The left boob was baggy and it didn't look very good overall (judy jetson shoulderpads ughhhh). But... as soon as Vera Wang said she loved it... I knew he wasn't going home SIGH even though this challenge was ALSO supposed to be about teamwork.

I know Heidi has said that in the past, they keep certain designers around for drama... well Vincent and Andrea will certainly bring drama. They're both a mess (Vincent especially... I thought he should have gone home after the first challenge with that awful dress and hat).

I loved the dress that one... considering the dress was supposed to be a pageant dress. I know Kayne's pageant business must be going through the roof right now!!

I also liked Michael and (can't remember her name... Red hair, tall, pale)'s white dress. It was simple but it was just stunning! I look forward to seeing the rest of the designs.

I actually didn't think Malan's dress was that bad. Yes the hem was terrible... and the boobs were a little poofy and the color wasn't too great... but overall it reminded me of J.Lo's green Versace dress from (i think it but I am not sure) the oscars. I thought the detailing on the dress was extremely good and the shape of the dress was nice as well.

I'm excited to see the episode where someone gets kicked off! I'm pretty sure I know which designer it is too!

Thanks for the recap!!! :)

Sk8888

I was shocked that they loved Bradley's design! But I see a trend... if Vera Wang loves it, so does everyone else ha ha. But I have to say he really pulled one out... wow.

I thought Angela's dress was by FAR the worst. It was horrible horrible horrible!

Bonnie's dress was very plain jane... but her little doggy jacket was so adorable. I think if she had followed Tim's advice and made a matching hoodie for her (human) model she would have been in.

Keith's dress was sooo cute but his attitude is horrible. Loved Uli's dress! Michael''s dress was something I would wear (but in another color bc I disappear in tan/taupe colors lol).

Any thoughts on who is going to be kicked off this week...??? I read a spoiler on who it is supposed to be but I'm not sure!!

That was Katherine's, not Bonnie's. And why oh why do they keep Angela on??? You think after last week they wouldn've learned their lesson and BOOTED her. Her story was so bad and her model looked like a ho. BTW Michael is freakin awesome! He's my fave so far.

I miss Malan and his weirdo Austin Powers personality big time. He didn't deserve to leave :(

Anyway... PR spoiler! Do not clink on the link if you don't want to know the spoiler!!

SPOILER

Sk8888 - August 2, 2006 11:39 PM (GMT)
I can't look at the spoiler, but I thought TONIGHT was the night someone gets booted for violating some Project Runway rules and guidelines.

I'm just guessing, but I think it is one of the guys.

I can't imagine what someone could have done that would be considered cheating, unless they were sewing when they weren't supposed to. It's going to be interesting.

As to some of the observations from my fellow P/R watchers:

1. I believe a hoody for the human model would have saved Katherine, and Angela would have gotten the axe. I really liked Uli's design. I agree with the judges.

2. I'm hoping that Angela and Vincent go soon. But Bradley didn't impress me with his time management last week at all.

Week 4 -- Project Runway

Big News - Keith is booted from the show when it is discovered he has pattern books and left the premises to use the Internet, (presumably for more help,) that is expressly against the Project Runway rules and guidelines.

Challenge this week: Design a Ready-to-Wear outfit for Macy's INC line of clothing.

Again, the contestants draw up some ideas and pitch their ideas to Macy's VP, who then picks FOUR team leaders. Angela is one of the four and as Nick from last year wrote in the People Magazine on-line recap, the other remaining contestants went running like cockroaches hoping not to be chosen by her.

Then, who should win? Angela and her team.

Bonnie gets the boot this week, which is ironic because she was excited about this challenge being in her area of core competency. Although she had Uli, (who had immunity,) she also got stuck with Bradley, who was his usual uninspiring self. But Bonnie's design is what killed them and she was gone.

Carry on everyone! Make it work!

Week 5 Project Runway.....Ratings Suffering Due to SYTYCD voting... :P

After watching SYTYCD, I switched over to watch the latest goings on at Project Runway. Since Keith got disqualified last week, two models were going to be goners.

The switcharoo was that Heidi picked out the names of the models from a bag this week, and THEY CHOSE who they wanted to work with.

Poor Bradley, just like last week, he was the last designer chosen. The week before, when teams of three were being chosen, Bradley was the last one picked.

The CHALLENGE: Modernize the look of a famous fashion icon.

Again, it was up to the models to grab for the photo of a fashion icon, and then work with the designer to come up with something.

Kane's Fashion icon: Marilyn Monroe
Angela's Fashion icon: Kate Hepburn
Vincent's Fasion icon: Twiggie
Robert's Fashion icon: Jackie O
Michael's Fashion icon: Pam Grier
Bradley's Fashion icon: Cher
Allison's Fashion icon: Farrah Fawcette
Laura's Fashion icon: Katherine Hepburn
Jeffrey's Fashion icon: Madonna
Uli's Fashion icon: Diana Ross

All of the designers were pleased with the icon that they were to create a design for. However, Allison worried about updating a 70's look for Farrah Fawcette and Bradley said he didn't know anything about Cher. (Are you kidding me???)

Angela, who won last week's challenge, but has been on the ropes from the beginning because she doesn't really do sketching and apparantly doesn't know much about industrial sewring machines, incurred the wrath of Jeffrey because she messed up the bobbin thread, and tangled it all up.

Robert, our former Barbi designer from Mattel, who last week was told his outfit was boring, chooses a potato sack colored linen fabric for his Jackie O design..........hmmmmmm, Robert, were you listening last week???

Vincent is his usual frowning self, and Bradley is having trouble making women's pants for the second week in a row.

Runway time:

Top Three: Kane/Marilyn Monroe, Angela/Kate Hepburn and Michael/Pam Grier.

Bottom Three: Vincent/Twiggy, Robert/Jackie O and Bradley/Cher.

I'll just say it had to be awfully close because Kane's flowing gown for Marilyn Monroe was simply gorgeous, but they gave the win this week to Michael who had made a hip hot-pink sleeveless top with matching hot pants.....smokin'!!! Angela impressed and surprised the judges for the second week in a row with a classic, yet modern, basic black dress that Kate Hepburn wore so well. She might just be this year's Santino, the person you love to hate.

And the loser? I couldn't believe it, but Vincent is safe, even though the judges described his hideous design of a mini-shift dress with orange, brown and plaid fabric as nothing short of Brady bunch attire.

It's down to Robert and Bradley.

I can't begin to describe how bad Bradley's outfit was. White pants with fringe, with a very bad crotch line, with a metallic silver top with some aqua color pieces of fabric applied.....NOT fitted. The only thing that came to mind was CHEAP and unimaginative. How can you design something for Cher that is not form fitting?

Anyway, even though the judges were totally disappointed in Robert's boring execution AGAIN, they still think he shows promise, and gave Bradley the boot. It was the right thing.

Michael and his model will have an ad placed in Elle Magazine where Michael's design will be featured in a Tresemme ad. Very cool.

See you next week. Hoping to have some other viewers chime in. :D

akaphd08 - August 11, 2006 12:20 AM (GMT)
I was SOOOOOO happy to see Michael win. He knows womens' figures through and throughout. I love ALL of his designs (especially the dog-walking outfit) and I'm glad he's getting his shine (he and Laura made an excellent team last week, I thought... and I'd like Laura to get some shine too :) ) I was scared when I first saw the outfit... the skirt was too hoochie and not enough pam grier... but the hot pants really switched it up and when she came out I was like WHOA HELLO PAM GRIER!! Can't wait to see the ad in Elle... I'm rooting for Michael to win the whole thing, and even if he doesn't win everything, I'll be looking for his designs in stores sometime next year.

My second favorite was actually Laura's design... it was pure Katherine Hepburn chic...very cute.

I was underwhelmed by Angela's (maybe bc the detail didn't show up on tv quite well)... I saw a little black dress with some rosette's.

I liked Kanye's but it didn't feel very Marilyn Monroe-ish to me... it felt more Angelina Jolie or Gwen Stefani... but I guess Kayne thought Gwen Stefani was a modern day Marilyn (which works in my book)... BEAUTIFUL GOWN... terrible booty. It made the model look like she had rolls in the back... and considering she was rail thin... that's not a good thing. But I do agree his overall presentation was steller. (third favorite)

I'm really hoping Jeff will step it up. I loved his pre-show designs... so I've been semi-disappointed with his show outfits. That outfit was not Madonna... even the hair was not Madonna (except for in one of her later phases)... he could have really gone crazy considering punk/scene fashion is so in right now... but instead we got a baggy deconstructed corset dress with a china-doll haircut? Ummm no.

Aww sad to see Bradley go (even though his outfit is horrid)... he was so cute and quirky! I think he would have stuck around if he had made a different top. But yeah that top was terrible... one of the worst in the history of PJ.

Vincent needs to go next... his outfits are HORRIBLE. Those pockets! Those colors! Those sleeves! The makeup and hair styling was ALL wrong! A cute modern-day babydoll dress with a boy haircut and huge false lashes would have worked better.

Uli's outfit was so pretty! I'd wear it... it was like a very muted Diana Ross... I wish she had gone bigger with everything... Diana Ross is known for her over-the-top hair, makeup, and outfits... but in terms of a nice dress, Uli's delivered

Allison's was kind of bland. Didn't care for it personally because I didn't see how it embodied farah but it seemed well made.

Robert... for someone who designs barbie dolls... he sure doesn't know what women want! Jackie O would never be caught dead in a linen wrinkley suit with a rope belt. Ugh! He should have done houndstooth or tweed... and updated it for a modern look. I'm glad he has another chance to prove himself though.

okay well heres my little opinions on last nights Episode.

I reallly really like Kayne hes my favorite on the show.
I think he did pretty good overall making something for "MM".
But i thought it was funny about his model, how she kept talking.

Robert has just been boring me lately. Jakie O had such great style
and maybe it was just the jacket, but his outfit was Thumbsdown.

Bradley, didn't mind seeing him go. He never really impressed me.
He was kind of strange anyways. I mean, what ran through his
head last night?

Laura, i like her designs. I thought her outfit was beautiful and i loved it!
Even i myself would wear that. But her, ehh i don't like her so much. She seems,
dare i say, braty, to be nice.

Jeffery, sure hes a bit odd but i gotta give it up for this guy! After him and Allison did sucha great job on Keiths outfit after he left, i give him props. I usually like his designs, but just not so much of last nights.

Michael, OMG LOVED that outfit! SOO glad he won the challenge. Well deserved!

Angela, Don't like her too much, but i do like Audrey Hepburn's style, so i
think her dress was nice. One thing though about her, i HATE the rosetas.
Okay some are cute, like on her 3 peice design on the jacket, but common!

Vincent, don't know who Twiggy is, but she scared the crap outta me! lol her looks were kind of odd. I didn't care for his outfit too much.

ULI, AHH! Loved her dress veryyy much! I love most the stuff she designs.
Shes a really great designer!

Allison, didn't care for hers. It was kind of bland, as you said akaphd08.
really didn't care for it, but other than that i usual like her.

for the break down, I wouldn't mind seeing Robert go next, and
Vincent in the near future. Kayne, Michael, Jeffery, and Uli are my favorites.
