Description: The more i hear it the more i love it
Outofmymind - May 20, 2006 02:59 PM (GMT)
Its realy one of Elliott's best together with "A Song for You" "Trouble" and "Moody's Mood For Love"
Lookin4Trouble - May 20, 2006 03:59 PM (GMT)
I know what you mean. I had never heard the song before but now I am playing it all the time.
My daughter (15- also big E fan) and I start singing when he gets to the Oh Nelly! part It's great.
We noticed someone had that for a screen name here. Love that sn!

Same here. Every week...whatever song Elliott sings..it stays in my head with HIS voice...all week.
That's the sign of a singer who will make the SONG...not a song that will make a singer.
If you get my drift...Elliott is the instrument...and he will make the music.
Today, people don't listen to an artist..they buy a song. If the artist isn't a natural..his star will fade. 20 years later, we won't be able to listen to that song on the radio...it's just nervewracking. We wonder why we ever liked either the song..or the artist. But a real singer...like Elliott..is timeless. Classic. Like Frank Sinatra.
babeebee - May 20, 2006 07:18 PM (GMT)
Agree. I love this song and I never heard it before either. I sing along with it too and was even dancing around my house to it yesterday. I think that might have been the first time I danced to an Elliott song. He's just too cool!
trbldbysquirrels - May 20, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
that's why it really irritates me that certain people say, "well the songs he sang were too obscure for him to ever really win"
BS!!! i'm sorry but the fact that he took little known songs and made them some of the most played on the radio, NOW [ie MMFL - i heard it like 3 times yesterday!] says something about his musical instincts.
KrazeeK120 - May 20, 2006 07:25 PM (GMT)
I love I Believe to my Soul more and more every time I listen to it. I'd rather the contestants sing stuff I haven't heard...then I can't compare them to the original and Simon can't say they are kareoke. Plus, the lyrics to that song were absolutely perfect for the situation.
Mad props to E for singing that song.
goelliott - May 20, 2006 07:41 PM (GMT)
I loved it. I think the 2nd performance of it was even better than the first. I love when he says "my name is Elliott Yaammmiiiiiiiinn" and how raspy his voice sounds at the end (raspy in a good way). He should've gotten more credit for that performance from the judges!!!!!! (but what else is new!)
nikobie - May 20, 2006 07:45 PM (GMT)
Didn't like it Tuesday nite....love, love, love it now. One of my favorites that he did. Had never heard it before
nikobie - May 20, 2006 07:46 PM (GMT)
BTW...Richmond is still supporting the heck out of Elliott...songs playing all the time. Not just MMFL, but others as well. Very nice!
Edub - May 20, 2006 08:54 PM (GMT)
Never had IBITMS before as well--- but I thought it was soulful and awesome-- best part... when you name my name is Elliott Yamin-- definitely the ultimate closer :)
One of my new co-workers used to work at NBC Universal and she hadn't really paid much attention to E before, but after wed she just had to say "that boy's got soul!"

:hello: Hi Guys! Just checking in, and getting caught up on what's happening. It's crazy, but I'm still recovering from last Wednesday. And even though E will be on the show next week, as much as I miss him, I'm still debating whether or not I'll watch the show- as I'm still upset with the way AI handled Elliott. In other words, I don't want to contribute to their ratings- which is all they care about.
Anyway, I know you guys will watch, if I don't- like I said I'm still recovering. I'll be in and out this weekend, but I love this forum! Way better than AI's.
converse with you guys later. :bye:
moonlight - May 20, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
We had never heard it and my Mom called me and asked if Elliott had written in and was going to record it - she loved it! :D
cat09 - May 20, 2006 11:32 PM (GMT)
Add me to the never heard it before list, but I've heard it over and over again in my head all week. LOVE IT
luxrocks1 - May 20, 2006 11:51 PM (GMT)
That is definetly THE song that most defines Elliott. He really put his stamp on it. I play Believe To My Sould constantly! I hope he puts that one on his first CD!
Peggoty - May 21, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
I love it and I can't get it out of my head. :) I go to the AI site to watch his perfomances, but where can I go to listen to them? Where are you guys getting these songs so you can listen to them?
Lookin4Trouble - May 21, 2006 12:21 AM (GMT)
I have gotten them from the Yaminions website and Everything Elliott website.
You can download the mp3 or videos.
Hours of enjoyable E entertainment! :thud:
chercat - May 21, 2006 12:54 AM (GMT)
That is one of the many gifts of Elliott Yamin - he takes a relatively obscure song, makes it his own and makes it your new favorite !
I respect him so much for sticking to his guns and singing that song which he LOVED and not caving in to CLive or TPTB !
I would rather have him "lose" the OFFICIAL title of American Idol and be true to himself than cater to the forumulaic pop drivel - he will always be the PEOPLE's Idol , in my opinion .

I have all of E's songs downloaded and on CD to listen in my car. Also have downloaded a few videos of him singing them on the show. I have gotten them all from a site called Rickey.org. There are also many of his songs on www.yaminions.com website (they also got theirs from Rickey). You have to register as a member, but that's okay.
However, the best download I got was today. I got Moody's Mood For Love - the full version that will be on the CD coming out next week.
http://gracestreet.home.comcast.net/mmfl.mp3Check it out! It's awesome. Pure Elliott! Didn't really like it at first because it's very different than the one he sang on Top 24 night, but the more I listen to it, the more I love, love, love it. The boy is so talented!!!
Peggoty - May 21, 2006 01:55 AM (GMT)
Excellent. Thank you all. :glomp:

Chercat, there you are inside my head again!!
;) It never fails that we see eye to eye!
I agree that that is one of Elliott's special gifts...taking a song you have never heard...or even heard and didn't especially like...and singing it in such a way that you can't help but be swept away by it. I had heard "A Song For You" by The Carpenters, and HATED it (don't hurt me, but I think I am the only person alive who did NOT like The Carpenters!), but when Elliott sang it it was magical, touching, and so beautiful that I, along with Paula, was moved to tears. And I had heard "I Believe To My Soul" by Ray Charles and thought it was dull as dishwater...and wondered WHY Elliott would choose it. And then Elliott opened his mouth and SANG it...and I was blown away!!
I loved it Tuesday night (actually better than Wednesday night's version...am I the only one??) and as soon as voting was over I rewatched it over and over and over til the wee hours of the morning. Burned it onto a CD the next morning, and have been listening to it MANY times a day ever since. It's my favorite Elliott song, and my favorite of all of his performances, too. It was passionate (I really feel the lyrics were meant to express something to AI...I could be wrong, but I would like to think of Elliott having just that wee bit of snarkiness in him), he was sexy, and the vocals were spot on...I loved when he got raspy reaching for that high note...it came across as emotional to me, rather than missing a note. I think it was an absolutely brilliant performance.
And I, too, am proud of him for sticking to his decision to sing that song. It was his personal choice, and they should have let him be with it. I love that throughout the competition, many of his songs were songs that not everybody had heard before, as opposed to the standard pop songs. He opened up a whole new world of music to me, and I thank him for that.
I wrote this in a post at the AI board two and a half weeks ago, and I stand by it today...
..."So think about this...if you really LOVE Elliott, would you want him to compromise who and what he is in order to win this lousy competition?
Elliott is a gift and we are lucky to have him. Sure, we all want him to win this, and he wants to, too. But do we want him to change the singer, the MAN he is, to do it? I don't. I want Elliott to be his amazing, wonderful self."
If Elliott had changed his song choice, he might have been able to slip into the top two. He might have had more support from Clive and the judges. But he wouldn't have been true to himself, he wouldn't have been the Elliott we all grew to love and apprreciate. So title or not, he is the real winner in my book for sticking to his choice, remaining his authentic self, and not compromising for the sake of the prize.
Congratulations, Elliott...you really HAVE grown so much in this competition. You entered as a funky white boy who thought he could sing, and left as a confident, sincere man with legions of fans who love you for just who you are.
Maia12 - May 21, 2006 03:51 AM (GMT)
I loved ELLIOTT's performance of I Believe To My Soul, especially when he sings his name in the song. Intentional or not, the lyrics really fit all of the nonsense that had been going on.
It did bother me that people were advising him not to perform the song and that nobody knows it. I knew the versions by Ray Charles and Donny Hathway and I'm sure many others did too.
brwneydgirl - May 21, 2006 06:25 AM (GMT)
I love it more and more each time I listen to it. It is such a cool song! I love the attitude in it, like I loved the attitude in Trouble. Elliott has wonderful taste in music. I love how he introduces songs to us that not everyone is familiar with, and he makes us love them. E is da bomb!
efunk_adelic - May 21, 2006 07:52 AM (GMT)
Vocally it's a masterpiece... bluesy song all the way. :dance:
shatner8 - May 21, 2006 10:42 AM (GMT)
This is my favorite E song this season. So sorry that much of the American public is limited by familiar tunes, and can't appreciate great songs.
i look forward to E singing these types of songs in the future

Hi Sylvia ,
I see you are back in the pink! :)
I love your post from the AI board - guess i missed that one the first time around .
I think as his fans we all love him for so much more than just his music - his beautiful and captivating vocals that pull you right into the core of him are just a part of his appeal .
We all love Elliott the PERSON as well as Elliott the singer , because we admire his character - his honesty, his sincerity, his empathy . We love him because he is not afraid to hug or shed a tear or openly admire and express his love for his mother .
ANd yes , I think he would have won more praise from the judges and Clive is he had chosen a cookie-cutter , guaranteed to get the votes type of song that he HATED and he chose not to do that - he chose to be true to himself and that is a very difficult thing to do at times - he did not succumb to the pressure but won more than votes - he won our hearts and he won our loyalty for life and that will serve him far better than winning this paltry competition.
SylviaRebecca - May 21, 2006 01:28 PM (GMT)
Yep, Cher...back in the pink!! I can't remember who told me how to do it, but I sure am grateful! I missed my pink, that's a personal thing for me.
Here is that post from the AI board, in case you did miss it. I get a little impassioned about the man, I think...but I can't help it! He just yanks at my heartstrings and touches me on such a deep personal level...I just love him!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love Elliott. I have been a fan of this amazing man since the beginning, even though I didn't join the boards til later.
I love Elliott. I love the rich tone of his voice. His vibrato thrills me. He is funny and not afraid to laugh at himself. He is humble about his talent. He is obviously a caring and deeply sensitive person. He has beautifully expressive eyes and a smile that is contagious and comes from deep within him. And the man is EYE CANDY!!
I love Elliott. He knows who he is and is unafraid and unashamed to share that man with us every week. We have seen him clowning around with Ryan and being goofy in the behind the scenes videos. We have also seen him cry. We have seen him elated, sad, hurt, embarrassed...
I LOVE Elliott. Do you love him? Do you REALLY???
I have been seeing sooooo many posts on these boards about what Elliott "needs" to sing next. Posts about how he "needs to step up his game", "loosen up", etc. And I see a LOT of posts criticizing his song choices. I have even been guilty of this myself.
But let's think about this...
Don't you all think that Elliott WANTS to win this? Did you see his reaction to being in the bottom two last night? Elliott wants to win, he even said it himself Tuesday night..."I'm not quite ready to go home yet."
Don't you all think that Elliott has worked his @ss of for this? He has tried harder than anyone there to absorb all he can from the judges and the celebrity guests. He has stood strong in the face of adversity and criticism. And he has remained true to himself through it all.
I LOVE Elliott!! I love that he has come all the way from singing karaoke to the FINAL FLIPPIN' FOUR of American Idol all on his own...and not once has any judge ever EVER called one of his performances "bad karaoke". Amazing!!
I love Elliott for his beautiful voice, which can soothe me, thrill me, give me goosebumps, and move me to tears...all in the space of 90 seconds! And I love him for pouring his heart and soul into these performances. He always gives us his all and I am really proud of him for being able to get up there and do this week after week, in spite of the fact that everyone involved with the show treats him like the Invisible Man.
So think about this...if you really LOVE Elliott, would you want him to compromise who and what he is in order to win this lousy competition?
Elliott is a gift and we are lucky to have him. Sure, we all want him to win this, and he wants to, too. But do we want him to change the singer, the MAN he is, to do it? I don't. I want Elliott to be his amazing, wonderful self.
Trust. Have faith. Believe in Elliott. He is doing the very best job that he can, and if he doesn't win at this point, it WILL NOT be because of something he should have done differently. It WON'T be because he let us down.
So let's show Elliott some REAL love. Support his decisions. Don't say you hate his choices.
And vote for Elliott like Yamin it!!!
