Description: Ones you love and number to die for!
meta - July 14, 2006 10:59 PM (GMT)
Berkana and I started discussing Benji and one thing lead to another and we were talking old movies. What about musicals? What about numbers and particular dancers in musicals we never ever forget>
For example, I never forget
"Kiss Me Kate" Highlights are all aAnn NIller's dances, particularly her opening number of "Too Darn Hot" where she dances over the table tops...and Bob Fpsse's number, "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" A zillion star movie.
Speaking of Fosse, "Pajama Game" and "Sweet Charity", "Cabaret" and "Damn Yankees" and his final one "All That Jazz
"Singing in the Rain" and all the other Gene Kelly musicals...geez, this could take a while...I'm going to rerev my engines and come back later. Fill in and add on PLEEZ!!!
"Carousel"
"Oklahoma"
"Guys and Dolls"
"Chicago"
"Moulin Rouge"
"Meet Me in St. Louis"

The Band Wagon
Top Hat
Covergirl
Brigadoon
Cabaret
Rent
Camelot
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Unsinkable Molly Brown
Gigi
Grease
Oh and my favorite Fosse number is "Rich Man's Frug" from Sweet Charity.

:hello: Did no one else enjoy "Cats"? I thought it was sensational. And the song "Memories" was haunting.

The best song or my favorite is Take Me Or Leave Me.
Of course I'm a huge Idina Menzel fan. I had the pleasure of getting to see her and Kristen Chenoweth in Wicked.
I wish I would have been old enough to see her in her other shows as well.

There is so much wonderful music and moments that come from the stage.
"What I Did For Love" from A Chorus Line
"The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha
Most of the music from Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera
Oh how I wish I were in NY right now!!!!! I took my granddaughters to their very first play in January. The Lion King was fabulous and hopefully it will be something that they will never forget.

HOW COULD I FORGET the unforgettable Les Mis, let alone "The Man of La Mancha?"
My favorite from A Chorus Line is "T and A."
I am pretty darn sure I AM Molly Brown...and what about "Funny Girl?"
What we need is some great new musicals all starring BENJI. :cheerleader:

One of my favorite musicals ever is "Wicked". Idina Menzel's voice gives me chills! I love "Defying Gravity". :)
However, the BEST musical (for me) would have to be "Rent"..."Seasons of Love" is fantastic! :D
ElliottCat - July 17, 2006 05:34 AM (GMT)
All time favorite musical (lacking in much dance) is Sound of Music. Also love South Pacific (more dancing). Both were vocal vehicles, of course, but still qualify as musicals.
Didn't notice this thread until today. Maybe I didn't need the one I started.
And, yes, Benji needs his own musical, but I would love to see him in something along the lines of "Riverdance" where the dancing really IS the story.
Any thoughts on White Nights? (Movie, I know.)
I have on the tip of my pea brain some old musical movies that I used to love so much, designed for the younger set. Gotta think on those. Sheesh, this is hard having to remember.
Love ALL the ones mentioned here, too.

i took a workshop with Ann Reiking, years ago. She was very nice.
Despite what I have heard about Fosse, I will love and appreciate his work.
I saw the musical FOSSE 3x on Broadway. Once with Ben Vereen in it. and once with the hot hot hot Desmond Richman. :thud: :thud:

My eldest and I saw Cats live 10ish years ago. We were both blown away. And then 2 years ago, my youngest and I watched the tape. She was blown away and is hoping that one day the play will return to town.
I would love to see Lion King -- did anyone see it, and what did they think?
A favourite song from another favourite movie, Chicago -- He had It Coming!
Very amusing! :rotfl:
