Title: Sytycd - Spoilers Pre-show Chat
Description: Come in only if you HAVE TO KNOW!
ElliottCat - July 15, 2006 03:13 AM (GMT)
Another topic, as promised. This thread will be devoted to SPOILER info for the next show. Only those who do NOT want to be surprised every week should read this thread!
Hopefully, the main SYTYCD thread will be for performance review and discussion after Wednesday nights. The ELIMINATION NIGHTS thread will be for discussion of the eliminations each week and how we think things will shape up for the next week given who is left.
This thread is for spoilers...who has been paired for the next week's show, what styles they will be dancing, and what we think of that!
To start it out, here's the spoiler pairings and styles for Wednesday, July 19th:
benji/nat = jazz & hip hop
dmitry and donyelle = samba & lindy hop
travis and heidi = contemp. & paso doble
ivan and martha - hip hop & smooth waltz
ryan and allison = broadway & contemporary
And, ooh la la, did some of us already predict what was going to happen with these pairings?
UH OH to Ivan and Martha.
CAN'T WAIT to Travis and Heidi (and paso doble? )
I-THINK-IT-WILL-REALLY-BE-GREAT to Ryan and Allison (this may be the maker or breaker for Ryan...it should be a shining moment for him)
GREAT DANCES for Dmitry and Donny, so Dimi has his chance to let us know if he can make it - let's hope Donny is in good form for it - unfortunately, if she isn't, Dimi will get blamed for it since he has that stigma of making the girls CRY (regardless of whether or not that is justified)
DESIGNED TO CHALLENGE for Benji & Natalie - this is where I could get really pissed with the fixing of style choices "out of the hat" - both are not Benji's style, he's already had hip hop and his fair share of fluffy stuff. This SCREAMS of fixing styles to fit his personality instead of being a "random" choice. Natalie already had Hop and didn't do all that well. The pairing is fine, but there is an ulterior motive in the style choices.....not pleased with these. (BUT, if Benji blows it out, I say he has a great chance to take it all!) But, I don't think either of these dancers can help the other in these choices, so this one will be interesting to see (and if I get mad enough after seeing it, I will vote for Benji the entire two hours, now won't I?)
ElliottCat - July 15, 2006 03:19 AM (GMT)
And didn't I tell you that Travis and Heidi would be GREAT for Heidi...learning from Travis in Contemporary? Didn't I? DIDN'T I???????????????? :woohoo:
And, does anyone....ANYONE....think it was a random second choice to get Paso Doble where Heidi would be teaching Travis?
TPTB have spoken! You can SO SEE who the TCO's are, aye?
Berkana - July 15, 2006 04:26 AM (GMT)
Well we can't blame Natalie. We haven't really gotten to see if she can do hip-hop. I mean that really wasn't hip-hop Dan gave them. Dan's a horrible choreographer. Let's hope they get Shane.
ElliottCat - July 15, 2006 04:32 AM (GMT)
Hi Berky, baby! :hello:
Yeah, you're right. And, jazz is a good style for Natalie, so maybe I jumped the gun on that.
After watching the videos in the Benji thread (and others I found), I KNOW he can do anything. And, I think Benji is a good teacher. He is an awesome male leader in partner dancing, so I am becoming more positive by the moment.
Once two more are gone next week, it's likely that only the cream will be left such that there can't be any "bad" pairings (only bad dance styles -- and choreography of course -- ugh).
Berkana - July 15, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
Hi, EC!
I hope they just keep Tyce. HE's absolutely amazing.
Him, Brian, Mia, and Shane are my favorite.
I like some of De Silva's, some of Mary's and some of that other latin guy! I can't remember his name lol.
I'm not so excited to see Ivan and Martha paired up LOL. Not at all.
I was hoping Benji would either get Natalie or Allison this week. Which is great. Because if Martha goes, then any of the girls left will be a perfect match.
Let's just hope Natalie doesn't try to get all up in Benji's grill LOL.
And I truly hope Donyelle's toe gets better. I know it hurts, but it's better to take care of it and stay off of it. My first injury I had to stay out of a production, and I was a horrid mess, but I'm glad I stayed off or I would have had to stop dancing.
I can't wait to see Benji's jazz. And Natalie's Hip-hop.
Can't wait to see Heidi's contemporary, and Travis' paso, especially since MAry makes comments about him not being manly enough.
Not really excited for Ivan and Martha. Maybe there hip-hop because Ivan is great at it. Not so much the Smooth Waltz especially since Martha is stiff and lackluster during the last two ballroom routines.
And I'm excited to see Ryan's contemporary and Allison and Ryan's broadway. I find it a little odd both Travis and Allison got contemporary. Ahem. AHEM. Yeah okay.

Ok, wrote up a major response to your post, here, and lost it all again when hitting the button.
I can't deal with this anymore. No more for me.

:rocker: EC and Berk,
I started to post a spoiler thread here yesteday and then lost my incentive, yet, you and I thought think along the same lines EC and YOU did post the thread so WHOOPEE!
I think the pairings and style choices are of interest because TPTB are getting down to business, seeing who can handle the pressures of a professoinal company with multiple numbers in different styles on any given night. Plus who can handle the physical strains of a full program.
Heidi drew Travis because Travis has actually done fairly well with the ballroom dances notwithstanding the deficiencies of Martha. Now Travis has a chance to work with a great partner in a dance that requires him to project masculine strength and charisma. Heidi has a chance to work with a great partner in a dance that requires her to tone it down to where we can see her technique and how she handles this style of choreography. I say this is a great match for the two of them.
Benji and Natalie both benefited from the change. Benji does hip hop and has already worked with Shane. The way Shane choreographs his routines is very playful and fun plus extemely physical. Both of these dancers are BIG fun-loving personalities who can play with and off each other. Jazz is what Natalie does as a dancer and Benji's sense of timing, his body control, and strength as a partner will enable him to keep up with her.
The two pairings above could be absolutely phenomenal!
Allison and Ryan are an interesting match up. This is Ryan's golden opportunity to find his inner dancer: Allison has the physical and spiritual abandon, Ryan lacks, maybe, just maybe she can show him the way...if he is open to it. He is so shy, though, this stands in his way...shy people are often too SELF aware and not going with the flow. The contemporary could be very very good to Ryan...the Broadway is meant to give Allison, in particular, a shot at the one dance style she has yet to attempt. If she is as great at this as everything else, then who can stop her or who would want to?
Dmitry and Donyelle are a real question mark. The two styles selected for them ask Donyelle (if she is healthy) to prove she has the stamina to do THREE (including her solo) strenuous dances in one evening...in a show you would be called upon to do more. Dmitry is challenged to work with yet another partner, and I believe the choices here are designed to give him a chance to showcase his best stuff as a partner since he had styles very very far from his main area over the past several weeks. The lindy hop does not require any sex appeal but Dmitry has that no matter what he does. :rotfl:
There is so little hope for Ivan and Martha. All of us see this as the worst case scenario for Ivan. The hip hop can be okay, although I just do not believe in Martha as a dancer; I can see her as a Dance Team member for the Lakers or something...but even there she just cannot dance with someone else in the same space. Further, her technique does not allow her to shine as a soloist either. I do not except much from them. Since two dancers have to go this week, might as well be them. I know I wouldn't care.
Can't wait until Wednesday evening! Think I'll tape this week, though, so I can review the dances to watch the individuals perform in each.
:bye:

I can't really add much to all your comments. Agree that Ivan got the short end of the stick, Looking forward to all others. Especially Travis, hopefully he can show his masculine side, which I don't think he is all that wimpy.
Ryan is a very good dancer, he should do well this week, Dmtry...he was my fav, but I don't know, ...I think it really depends a lot on Donny too. And his solo...
Benji can dance anything IMO and it should be a riot to watch.
Really looking forward to this next show :)
See ya'll then

Hi Meta,
Well, I agree with everything you said. In fact, if I had not lost my post to Berkana last night, you would have been dittoing MINE. :woohoo:
So, we all think alike. Maybe we should get together for a viewing party next Wednesday night. I'll bring the refreshments.
Now, I'm going to let SYTYCD go until Wednesday and get down to some serious money-making activities (legal ones, by the way).
Thanks for the great posts, everyone. Talk to you Wednesday!
ElliottCat - July 15, 2006 08:49 PM (GMT)
Oh, and Berkana....one thing lost in that long post last night was who "that other Latin guy " is.
Ray Montez - great dancer, great choreographer, and most importantly, a great TEACHER.

Yes, and because it will now become obvious that Ivan just *stands* there during any dance that isn't hip hop, stands there, gives some attitude (and, yes, his positions are better now), while his partner gyrates and actually *dances* all around him .... I wonder how they'll explain that away this week. ... Well, I suppose they'll just blame it on Martha.
I'm sorry, maybe it's just me, but I have yet to see Ivan actually dance much, when it's not a hip-hop number, despite all the tongue baths he keeps getting. I keep waiting for him to get stuck with the quick step, or fox trot, or Cuban rhumba, but I swear I think those hats are fixed so that he never will.

With you here. I think this is Ivan's week to go IF the voting public sees what we all see...he keeps repeating his limited dance vocabulary over and over again. Martha is not very good so there is no running and no hiding for either of these two.

in his defense... all he has to do is bring out that sexual energy... move those hips in a sexual fasion... I betcha he'll win over a bunch of fans which could save him for another week.
because he is only 18? the teens will just swoon over the kid. c'mon Ivan... bring out that animal!!!! show us what'cha got

I think I'd like to see Ivan and Martha go this week. However... I have a bad feeling about Donny's toe :( and we all know Dimitry is the kiss of death!
I think Travis and Allison will be the best dancers this week considering they both got contemporary and get to do solos.
ElliottIsDeBomb - July 18, 2006 07:32 AM (GMT)
Hey everyone!!! I just went and saw So You Think You Can Dance today! Let me say it was AWESOME. I had so much fun. Anyways, let me tell you what happened. So the tickets i got through the internet said "Do not arrive later than 3 pm" but i got there around 2:45. I see this line that doesnt look that long, but then im told that there are tons of more people actually inside the studio waiting to be seated. So my mom is so gutsy she walks right pass the guy who is checking the tickets and tells me to come with her. So we get passed the first line and then i see there are hundreds of people sitting on benches because they had gotten there a lot earlier. So, we waited for an hour and a half until 4:30 until they let us in. It was a long wait. They started letting people in based on what bench they were sitting on. So after they let in the first bench, my mom sneakily finds seats on the second bench and we all go in together. So we are really lucky at this point. We find a location right near the front of stage, in fact there was only one person standing in front of me. I was sooo close to contestants I could practically smell them, it was really cool.
So before the show starts at 5, they shoot all these segments so that the can edit them into the show when it actually airs. So they go contestant by contestant and tell the audience to hold up signs for their favorite contestant. The audience was yelling the loudest for Benji and there were also the most Benji signs, I was kinda shocked. Something that i found odd was that they called everyonce's name except Martha's, probably because she is the least popular contestant. Also, when they called Ryan's name, I don't think I saw a single sign (not that Martha had any signs either lol). I think based on votes they will be the two going home but I'll talk about that later. So I spent the whole preshow screaming so loud because they wanted 10 diferent takes of us cheering. It was really annoying. They actually told us to boo so they could get that on tape too. Actually before the thing with the signs, Mary was on stage dancing with some San Diego newscaster or something, I dunno. They invited three people from the audience to dance and they judged them, it was kinda funny. Then they introduced the judges, Nigel, then Sicily and Alicia (not sure if thats right but, you know those two hyper judges) and Jean Mark. Mary was in the audience because she choreographed 2 of the routines.
I'll add more in a sec.
ElliottIsDeBomb - July 18, 2006 07:56 AM (GMT)
Here's the order of the routines:
1. Ivan and Martha - hip hop
2. Dmitry and Donyelle - lindy hop
3. Travis and Heidi - paso doble
4. Ryan and Allison - contemporary
5. Benji and Nat - jazz
6. Ivan and Martha - smooth waltz
7. Dmitry and Donyelle - samba
8. Travis and Heidi - contemporary
9. Ryan and Allison - broadway
10. Benji and Nat - hip hop
These were the 10 performances with couples and there were also 10 solos scattered in between them. There is so much to remember because it was a 2-hour show, but I'll try my best. But, before i get to the routines let me tell you some things i noticed. First off, all the contestants look so much smaller and shorter in real life. I never knew how short Heidi was. She looked like she was 5 feet tall maybe shorter. It seemed like Travis was by far the shortest guy, maybe only 2 inches taller than her. Donyelle looks a lot skinnier in real life too. I guess its true what they say about the camera adding 10 pounds. Dmitry was the tallest guy. He looked like he was a foot taller than Travis. I noticed all of this when they were standing in a line at the end of show. Also, Allison was very pretty, of course. I think i have a crush on her! During each commercial break, they re-apply Cat's makeup. A little crew of 3 people comes and does a couple of touch ups during EVERY commercial break. Its not like her makeup changes much after a dance or two. Also, during the break they have us clap for the choreographers in the audience so they can edit that in as well. I'm tired now but I'll post more tomorrow about the dances. If you have any questions feel free to ask. :)

:justkidding:
Will check it out tomorrow.
Pssst - did you tell the camera guy to KEEP STILL?!?
(I figured since you were so close you could just nudge him with your elbow and threaten to stomp on his foot if he moved the camera.)
ElliottIsDeBomb - July 19, 2006 06:20 AM (GMT)
K, I'm back! So let me answer some questions before i start talking about the dances.
"Who's dancing made the biggest impression on you either for the good or the bad? "
The routines I enjoyed the most were Dmitry and Donyelle's samba, Travis and Heidi's contemporary, and Benji and Nat's hip-hop. It was hard to choose though cause I really liked them all.
"I want to know how Heidi and Travis' contemporary dance went! "
It went great. It was based on a love story between them. Choreographed by Mia Michaels. There was a bench in the center of the stage and the did many romantic movements aorund it. For one part, Heidi was underneath the bench and travis was on top and they followed their hands together through the bench! The judges liked it a lot too. I remember Nigel saying that "he saw Kelly Clarkson sing her first song, and he watched Tamyra Gray sing a House is Not A Home" and that their routine moved him just as much as those moments.
"How was Benji with Nat? "
I thought Benji and Nat were an excellent couple. I liked their jazz performance although I don't really remember much from it. I loved their hip-hop routine! It was a very entertaining routine! The judges thought they didn't connect with each other, but I disagree.
"Pssst - did you tell the camera guy to KEEP STILL?!? "
Haha. Actually the camera guys were walking everywhere in front of me so it was kinda disturbing! They would take some of our standing room too, but I didn't mind too much. :)

Martha and Ryan need to go. Seriously. Due to the fact that the votes are going to be the deciding factor for the remainder of the competition, the results will start to mirror what happened on AI. Mainly, forget the bloody dancing. Remember what happened to Elliott? Well, same thing will happen here. Look for the best entertainer to win. No joke.
Martha and Ryan are decent technically, I think, but both lack entertainment value or personality. Pick one. Travis and Allison will likely do very well based on the fact that they will be in their element. However, remember, it's about entertainment value to the general mass audience. Contemporary can be "hard to get" sometimes. I think it'll come down to the routine.
Dimetry (whatever) is a good dancer, but as you have said, he is the freaking kiss of death. But if any of the girls could survive the curse, it would be Donyelle. Remember, she is half of "benjelle", an entity that has taken on a life of its own. That association in and of itself, as well as the hope that Benjelle will live to dance together again will keep her safe, even with that toe.
At this point, correct me if I'm wrong, I think the contest is Benji's to lose. He's the perfect combination of entertainment value and skill that they are looking for. I honestly think that he and Natalie are going to SUCK as a couple. Why? Because they are going to be compared to Benjelle and nothing on this green Earth, well at least on the "earth" of SYTYCD, can compare to that.
ElliottIsDeBomb - July 19, 2006 09:33 AM (GMT)
Now time for the dances! At this point, I don't remember a lot, but I'm gonna make sure to tell you the juicy things I do remember.
First, Ivan and Martha. I thought their hip-hop was pretty good since I was expecting less from an Ivan and Martha matchup. It was choreographed by Shane Sparks and they danced to Cassie's "Me and U". They were dressed in Michael Jackson type clothing. The judges said that individually they were strong, but the didn't connect as a couple. Having said that, their smooth waltz was probably the weakest of the night based of the fact that it had the most negative feedback from the judges. They found many things they did not like about the performance including Nigel mentioning that Martha's arms were shaped awkwardly. In Ivan's solo he was wearing the shoes with the wheels on them and he slid across the stage. Martha's solo did not really worked as she tried to dance to Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For?" She also dressed the part by weraing a big green hat that completely hid her face. Nigel even commented on the fact that no one could see her face. The judges didn't really like her solo and mentioned that she needed to have strong performances this week and that she seemed out of it. Her response was "I'm not trying to get sympathy votes or anything, but my mom passed away around this time last year, a week before my birthday. I've been thinking about her a lot recently and haven't been able to concentrate." I do feel bad, but I think there was a reason she brought this up. I think the fact that she had to preface that it wasn't for sympathy votes means something. She was the weakest female of the night so I'm not sure if the "sympathy votes" can really save her.
ElliottIsDeBomb - July 19, 2006 10:43 AM (GMT)
Next is Dmitry and Donyelle. I really liked both of their routines. The judges mentioned that Dmitry's back seemed too straight in the lindy hop routine which required him to bend more. Other that they like liked it. Their samba was excellent too. They danced to Black Eyed Peas "Hey Mama." Dmitry was in his element and they thought Donyelle also did very well like she does with any style she is given. Donyelle's solo was a cool hip-hop number and Nigel brought up the fact that her since speciality is hip-hop, she has truly done a fabulous job with the other styles. The judges thought that Dmitry's solo had more substance this week. Nigel made a remark in which he wondered who dresses Dmitry. "Whoever it is knows how to make your fans happy," he stated. Also, Donny looked as if everything was alright with her toe, which is a good sign. I hope she is feeling better.
ElliottIsDeBomb - July 19, 2006 11:05 AM (GMT)
Benji and Natalie. Their jazz routine was good, but I really don't remember anything about it. lol. Their hip-hop was very entertaining, though, and I remember a lot about it. Also choreographed by Shane Sparks, the dance had a street hip-hop vibe. Individually, the judges were impressed but they stated that they didn't really see a connection between Benji and Nat. I don't know how much "connection" is expected in a hip-hop routine, but I still thought it was amazing. Natalie seemed like she wanted to cry in her solo. The judges complemented her ability to express emotion though her dance. Benji solo was very impressive. He slid across the stage too but without the wheels. Actually, Nigel response was really funny. "Do your shoes have wheels?" "No," Benji replied. "Is your shirt open?" "No," he said again. "Thank you Benji!" I guess Nigel doesn't like gimmicks. Let me just say that benji is a favorite to win the competition. First of all, 80% of the signs were Benji signs. Secondly, the screams for his names were the loudest :woohoo: (my ears are still ringing). Third, did i mention that the crowd started chanting, "Benji, Benji, Benji!!!" after his solo?
ElliottIsDeBomb - July 19, 2006 11:20 AM (GMT)
Allison and Ryan. Their contemporary was kinda boring for me. Not like last week when i fell in love with Allison. Ah well. It might have still been good though, but tight black clothing really didn't get me interested. Heidi and Travis did better with contemporary in my opinion. I remember the judges mentioning something about Ryan stumbling at parts. The ending was cool though because they jumped into the audience at the end, but it was on the other side. They looked like elves for their Broadway number. Can't remember much but I do remember Allison's hat falling off while she was dancing and she reacted as if she so suprised to the point that you couldn't tell if it happened intentionally or not. I don't think it was though. Overall, I don't think they really liked Ryan's performances and I got the impression that Nigel was trying to make Ryan feel better when he said he thought he had a future in solo dancing. Most likely, he's going home this week.
ElliottIsDeBomb - July 19, 2006 11:38 AM (GMT)
Heidi and Travis. I think they worked well together. Heidi helped with the paso and Travis helped with the contemporary. Their paso doble was very good. Can't really recall any specifics. Their contemporary was excellent. It was based on a love story between Heidi and Travis. It was choreographed by Mia Michaels. There was a bench in the center of the stage and they did many romantic movements aorund it. For one part, Heidi was underneath the bench and Travis was on top, and they followed their hands together through the bench! There also was a flower that Travis offered Heidi. He later threw the flower into the audience. The judges liked this one a lot. I remember Nigel saying that "he saw Kelly Clarkson sing her first song, and he watched Tamyra Gray sing a House is Not A Home" and that their routine moved him just as much as those moments. They also both got very good feeback on their solos.
K, thats the end. I hope you guys like my summaries of the show. I think I might go again and see it soon. It was just toooo cool to not go again. Its almost like a dream, I can't believe I was actually there. We had to wait for 2 hours for the show to start and standing for 2 hours really wore me out, but it was all worth it. :)

Hey, Sweetie, thanks for the info--can't wait until tonight.I love Benji but I love me some Heidi...she just lights up the stage!

dulce -- I mentioned before that the title is "America's favorite dancer." So far, that seems to be Benji and I agree. I love Allison's dancing and think she is perfect for the Celine show, as is Travis. However, I love Benji and Heidi...they are my personal favorites.

Oh dear, I don't know if I really want to keep reading. I feel that I am being prejudiced before I even see the show. Yet I can't stop reading, either.....darn.
BUT, based on just this post being all I've read so far, I can see the judges in "influence-the-voting-audience" mode BIG BIG TIME, agree? They know that Martha and Ivan need to go.
Yeah, I do feel sorry for Martha's loss of her mother, but I have to ask this, "What was your excuse the last six weeks?"
I know, I'm a hard-hearted critic. But, the work ethic IS an issue, here. If she were in a gig learning a new routine, could she give this as an excuse for not "being there" one hundred percent? Noooooooooo.
Now that I've read the other comments about how so much of the show WE see is configured (pre-recorded cheering and booing....bleah!), there is just no doubt AT ALL that viewers are super manipulated. I will be MOST interested in hearing your comments AFTER the show, DeBomb, because then you can tell us what WE saw that was contrived and created and NOT actually what went on. Will that be an eyeopener or what?
Ok, maybe I'll read on........

| Overall, I don't think they really liked Ryan's performances and I got the impression that Nigel was trying to make Ryan feel better when he said he thought he had a future in solo dancing. Most likely, he's going home this week. |
Hmmmm...well only one guy goes, so is it Ryan or Ivan?
Ivan doesn't seem to have the popularity factor, but then again, the audience is not likely to be much of an idicator of those watching the show at home and willing to vote? Hard to say.
Ryan has the lyrical talent, but again, do the voting viewers care whether or not he is a good match for the gig like TPTB do? Probably not.
Will be interesting.

Hey DeBomb....thanks so much for taking the time to write all that for us.
Will you follow-up on this (posting in this thread) AFTER you see the show tonight to let us know what was "real" and what wasn't? You tell us here about the signs and the cheering, etc. but you also said that different segments were taped and that crowd cheering and booing was taped, etc. I'm very interested in hearing what was manipulated AFTER you see the version WE see.
Also, you may see YOURSELF in the show. Many of us tape it, so if you do see yourself, let us know where you are and we will look for you in the tape!
:woohoo:

Martha and Ryan need to go. Seriously. Due to the fact that the votes are going to be the deciding factor for the remainder of the competition, the results will start to mirror what happened on AI. Mainly, forget the bloody dancing. Remember what happened to Elliott? Well, same thing will happen here. Look for the best entertainer to win. No joke.

:hello2: Dulce,
You know, Meta made a good point somewhere around here about a key distinction between AI and SYTYCD, that being that everyone on the dance show has a very high degree of talent. Many would agree, I think, that there are those deliberately chosen to be eliminated quickly, and they have to choose some who are limited in style, just for the entertainment value (i.e. Musa and Ashlee come to mind...excellent, but style-limited, dancers).
The prize, however, dictates a fine tuning that is not present in AI. A million dollar recording deal from AI is really nothing and once done, if not successful, then bye bye. The Celine gig is serious business and a certain number of finalist HAD to be capable of doing that gig. It is to be expected that the best of those will be pimped.
However, I have to say that in dance, the "entertainment" IS the point here. Dance is so underappreciated. As a gymnast, I really felt that. People have no idea the hours of work and the extreme level of physical fitness that is behind that two minutes on the floor...NO IDEA. Same with dance, especially amongst the younger audience viewing this show. Being entertained is the criteria for voting. The judges will try to veer voting to technical merit based on what the gig is, I'm sure, and they truly do have the obligation to do that. I think the judges have, for the most part (but not always) done a very good job of this.
What I dislike is the "faves" that came into the show before anyone even sees the dancing. And, yes, they WERE getting votes because they have a following in their style or a lot of friends, etc. But, I believe they can get only so far. If the dance isn't good, it won't entertain. Even the least astute viewers can see that at some point, which I think is the point of forcing the different styles.
With AI, singing is a totally different animal. AI saw very little of what can change in the blink of an eye (lol...Kellie Pickler got signed when you blinked). Singing is temporal to the extent that a very practiced number can sound one way, but weekly performances truly reveal vocal ability. We know that we saw AI contestants go far on this show who had little singing talent...so absolutely we know that AI is a gimmick/entertainment/popularity/beauty contest, with singing only an excuse to get on the stage where the real circus begins.
Ew...that last thing reminded me of David Foster's gnarly comment about Elliott's ASFY and the fact that "He probably has sung that song a million times...." Just HAD to find something to NOT give him the voice credit, didn't he?
Back to the topic...sorry. :(
