Title: The One
Description: Anyone planning to watch it?

Sapphire - July 18, 2006 10:37 PM (GMT)
The One - Making a Music Star comes on tonight on ABC. Is anyone planning to watch it?

I didn't see a thread for this show. Sorry if I missed it.

Berkana - July 18, 2006 11:06 PM (GMT)
I might break down and watch it. LOl.

yoli68 - July 18, 2006 11:26 PM (GMT)
I'll check it out since there really isn't much of anything else on. ABC is trying to hype it as being more behind the scenes than "AI" but I don't think it's going to be as good.

tufntender - July 18, 2006 11:39 PM (GMT)
I was going to post the same thing..:) I am definately going to check it out, if not to just see what it is all about. It seems similar to idol, just more "inside"information.
I believe we will get to vote also.
I am on central time, so it comes on in about an hour and a half

Ahh I miss A1, can't wait for the "rewind"

tufntender - July 19, 2006 01:08 AM (GMT)
It just started here, they all sang a medley, first off nobody really impressed me, but towards the end was some great talent, anyone watching?

Lene - July 19, 2006 01:31 AM (GMT)
Yeah I'm watching and I agree with you, there are like 3 people who sound good and the rest are a bit meh. The first 2 people so far didn't impress me, but girl on right now has a voice, but nothing blowing me away.

tufntender - July 19, 2006 01:38 AM (GMT)
this last girl sounded like she was going to be good, and then she fell flat, don't know what happened. The other two that caught my ear/eye were guys, how about you?

Lene - July 19, 2006 01:49 AM (GMT)
Besides the third girl, there were two others who caught my ear. One was the black guy in the suit and the guy who sang right after him in the medley.

tufntender - July 19, 2006 02:03 AM (GMT)
same here lol

this Austin guy is way better than some...want to hear the black guy now, sorry I don't know his name, but this last one was great !!

tufntender - July 19, 2006 02:12 AM (GMT)
some of these people are ehrmh...not that good, maybe around their friends they are, but on TV,,,,eh,...no... lol

samhiguchi - July 19, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
a couple have potential, but will have to hear them again to know for sure, Austin was the best, but Jadyn and Sey...(don't know how to spell her name, have a shot maybe.

Berkana - July 19, 2006 04:51 AM (GMT)
I enjoyed this show. I like alot of the people on here. I think they are more talented than almost anyone on American Idol.

The show seems too long. But I love the way they have all these people helping the contestants.

I actually really liked Nick. Austin I really enjoyed. I think Aubrey could be excellent. Also liked Jeremiah.

Jadyn has potential, of course if anyone has seen her in the Herbal Essences commercial singing Rock You Senseless. Which you can purchase from Itunes. She's got a good voice.

Syesha is good, hated the song choice though.

amandarhea - July 19, 2006 06:01 AM (GMT)
the show bored me to tears. way to much of a AI knock off,

yet i did find myself voting i voted for Jerimiah the second guy, he was way talented just to nervous, and i voted for scottie he was good. austin was good also i just ddnt want to vote ne more i had other things to do.

but i do like that you can vote on line and only vote 10 times.

but all in all i prolly wont watch again unless the show is shorter.

LadyB - July 19, 2006 06:27 AM (GMT)
Meh...this show is ok. Some are good...and the rest are bad.
I liked Austin and Syesha. Scottie was good too. Other than that nobody else really impressed me. I might watch a couple of more episodes to see what happens and see who steps it up.

Janizzle - July 19, 2006 02:41 PM (GMT)
I liked Jeremiah? the first guy who was on...his voice reminded me of Constantine's for some reason, but better. I also was really, really impressed by Austin. I actually clapped when he was finished. He left a mark on me, I guess.... The one guy, the homewrecker, he was HORRIBLE....killed Let's Get It On....

The show has an interesting format. The host guy with the long Greek name is unimpressive. The "judges" are...sigh. I like the guy with the beard though. It's crazy that the "academy members" actually get to vote on who stays. And it's GREAT that you only get 10 votes! I voted for Austin the most, Jeremiah a few times...just had to!

The show comes on too late...and it's definitely worthy of that PG rating. Not exactly a family show.

That fake rebel rocker guy is GARBAGE, the black is TOO COCKY, the violin girl was really good too.

And the numbers were WAY TOO HARD TO REMEMBER!

Lol, I think I've said more than enough, haha...

Sapphire - July 19, 2006 05:09 PM (GMT)
I liked Austin, Scotty and Syesha. The rest were just meh for me. I can see Jadyn and the homewrecker (tm Janizzle) stepping it up.

I can't believe the contestants actually vote on who stays. If someone really good ends up in the bottom two, the contestants have an opportunity to get rid of the competition. If American Idol had the same format, the contestants could have voted Elliott off the show before America finally realized just how good he really was. I think this format will encourage the contestants to make friends and play nice with others.

Amunet - July 19, 2006 05:26 PM (GMT)
I saw a few people perform but the way it was setup just screamed WAAAAY too cheesy for me.

I'm not gonna watch it........ not that I was really planning on watching it anyway.

yoli68 - July 20, 2006 02:47 PM (GMT)
AI is a much better show. I don't like the judges and I really don't think any of the singers are that great. Maybe it was their song choices. The only singer that impressed me was Austin--the chubby white boy. He was really good. I'm rooting for him.
Who knows if the show will last though. I heard this morning that the show got horrible ratings. I can understand that. I'm glad I tivo'd it and ffwd thru the fluff and mostly watched the singing only.

samhiguchi - July 20, 2006 03:08 PM (GMT)
The elimination was unique, bottom 3 sing again, the judges then save one, and the contestants save one, the other is eliminated! Hard on the contestants, but maybe more fair than believing your vote is all that counts! I will watch again, just to see how it goes.......In my opinion, the Donna Summer disco Cuban girl should have gone!

It probably won't last. The results show was just as boring as the previous show. The contestants are not all that interesting. I don't like the judges.

If I had to choose a winner, it would be Austin.

tufntender - July 20, 2006 10:54 PM (GMT)
yep, I couldn't really watch results, since SYTYCD was on.
The whole set-up is just weird, and the talent is just not there . 2 or 3 above AVERAGE is not enough for me. Where did they find these people, really??
That one guy was horrible on the Marvin Gaye song....worse than my local kareoke, I think I said that already ") ugh same with Donna Summer cuban girl.
Austin should have this whole thing wrapped up, he and Scottie and the violin chick are the only ones with palpable talent as far as I am concerned.
I probably watch one more time, since nothing else is really on...but I am not impressed. Come on Idol 6....

I'm with you-Austin should win. It would be a shame to pull the show after getting these kids all hyped up about a recording contract. Maybe they'll move it to one of their affiliated cable stations, they did that a couple of years ago with "Last Comic Standing."
I think the main issue is that we have no connection to these singers. In AI you get to see most of them kinda from the beginning when they audition with Simon, Randy & Paula.
Well the show has a lot of issues really. It just plain sucks!

i agree 100% Austin is the only potential successful star on the show!

True! :D You do make a good point about not seeing the contestants from the beginning of the audition process. I think that's one of the main problems. They haven't shown us anything that would make us care about these people.

I didn't watch last night's show, but I caught the recaps at the end. Apparently, I didn't miss much. I thought Syesha sounded pretty good.

yoli68 - July 27, 2006 04:37 PM (GMT)
Ugh! This show is so bad...why do I continue to watch it? Last night's elimination show was awful. The behind the scenes drama of that one couple was too much. It looked a little planned. The way he told her "My ex-girlfriend is pregnant."
I don't like the "Maury Povich" vibe they are giving this show.

Will I watch it next week? Of course!

LOL!!! I will too, even though I said I was done with it.

 I watched some of the elimination show last night. That baby drama was a bit much so I found something else to watch.

Who got the boot?

ETA: Never mind. I just found out that Aubrey was eliminated. So much for all that drama.

Well, my prediction came true. I heard this morning that the show has been cancelled. It got the lowest ratings of any reality show. I feel for some of the singers who really deserved a chance (Austin) to make it. Maybe they should try out for AI!!
Link to an article that shows just how bad the ratings were.

Oh man my trainwreck show is no longer on. Ugh.

EmJay321 - July 29, 2006 08:36 AM (GMT)
It got the axe huh? No shocker there. Too bad for Austin, but the show was just so lame.

Sapphire - July 31, 2006 10:39 PM (GMT)
So that's it. Not a big surprise.

noira - August 2, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)
I actually watched it last week and didn't think it was all that bad performance-wise. Too bad for the contestants, did they just get sent home, I wonder?

relaxedsongwriter - August 12, 2006 05:38 AM (GMT)
yeah the one was no where near as good as AI but austin was good and so was some of the others but I didn't think it was really that awful but they judges spent to much time yelling at the contestants to take it seriously so I didn't like that and the guy with the blue beard that was bad too. :D
