Title: My San Diego Preshow Experience

ElliottCat101 - August 26, 2006 07:11 AM (GMT)
Today was such a blast guys! I'm really tired, and have another concert tomorrow, but I'll post the most exciting partst!!

I met 3 Idols by the busses. Ace and Elliott were the first to come over to the small crowd of waiting fans. Bucky came a few minutes later, and the three of them spent quite a while talking to fans and taking pictures.

Elliott was the first one I went to (of course!). He was so sweet! He looked at me straight in the eye and listened to just me when I spoke (even though there were so many people wanting his attention). I thought his nose looked kind of red, and we found out that he had spent the past two days in San Diego at the beach (the beach that I go to! ahh why didn't I go to the beach this week! :P ), so I guess he was kinda sunburned! lol I didn't have a picture or anything for him to sign (I seriously didn't think I'd be meeting them!), so I handed him my ticket. When he was signing I told him how sweet it was that he came over and spent time with us like this and he said "It's my pleasure!" then he said "Your so sweet let me give you a hug!" And I was like "Give me a hug?" (or something briliant like that!) and before I knew it... :thud: It was a great hug! Elliott and I said some other things, but that was the highlight.

Next I went to Bucky. There were a LOT of Bucky fans there, and he seemed pretty happy! He was smiling and joking around and being really cute! His pen started running out of ink when he was signing my ticket, and I said "you're going to need to get a new pen soon!" and he said "Tsh! It sure does look like it, don't it?" His accent was too cute! Also, my mom was taking a picture of me with him, and she kept taking the picture and going "I don't think it took, let me take another one..." then she'd take the other one and she'd say "I don't think that took, let me take another one..." This happened over and over! I finally told Bucky "She just wants a bunch of pictures of you." He laughed and said "You know, that's probably it." (Once again, there was a lot more that happened, but I'm too tired to write it all right now)

Then I went over to Ace. Let me start off by saying that I think Ace is such a sweetie and I just love him! When I met him, the first thing I noticed was his eyes. His eyes are so big and so blue and they never blinked! I guess it's a good thing, cause it really seemed like he was giving every ounce of attention to me, but at the same time I felt like he was trying tp hypnotize me! He told me I was clever for not bringing a picture, because this way it looked like I wasn't picking favorites (or something like that. He was talking very softly.) He asked me if I was looking forward to the show and I said "yes!" and he said "me too. It's a lot of fun." Then, because I was the only one left, he said "well, it was nice meeting you." And left.

I asked all three of them about when we'd hear their big announcments. They all expressed how excited they were to finally be free (they really did seem excited!), but said that they had to finish all the details on their contracts, so we should expect something in about 2 weeks or so (bummer!).

Katharine drove up a while later. She got out of her car, smiled and waved, but didn't come over. Kellie also came out of the busses sometime later. She had a blanket wrapped around her and looked really groggy. People screamed for her, and she smiled and waved but did not come over. Elliott and Bucky came out several more times but only waved.
The person that came outside the most was Taylor. The first time he came out people screamed for him, but he didn't even look our way. The next time he came out peopled screamed for a while and he finally waved half heartedly. He came out 3 more times that I saw, and all he did was scowl at us.. I don't know what was up with him!

That's not my entire pre show experience. There are other things that happened, include me thinking I might not ever forgive my mother (believe me guys - if this happened to you you'd feel the same!) and me sitting with my "Elliott Fans Sign Here" above my head and the banner in front of me for hours and having no one come over, but I'll have to write that some other time. I am too tired for those not so happy tales. :headsmack:

I'll write about the concert itself and then go to bed.

Mmm, okay. So I was parked 'just' ouside of the ribbon barricade by the busses, so we hung out there after the show a bit (this is a good way to wait for parking lot to empty out). We saw Elliot and Bucky, Kelli and Paris between the ramp that leads out of the under part of the arena out to the busses. They all smiled and waved, and Elliot and Bucky seemed especially friendly.

Bucky asked a security guy in a golf cart to tell the people waiting that they were doing a meet and greet, but some would come over afterward. That was VERY sweet of him.

Uh, I would say that Taylor was noticably not in the friendliest mood. He just sort of acted like he was 'over it'. And Katharine came very close to the barricade and her boyfriend was carrying her purse. She was wearing short and had the cast back on. Anyway, she waved a little but her BF opened his Mercedes door for her and they drove off.

So, long story short....OMG ELLIOTT....I am SO happy he was here, and that I got to hear him sing live!

Okay Elliott? We love you!

Well I don't know if I can wait two weeks! :P But I am so glad you got the poop straight from them so that we won't die waiting every day next week. You did a great job!

I enjoyed reading about your preshow experience. Congrats on meeting Elliott, Ace and Bucky. They all seem very sweet. Thanks for posting. I'm off to read about your concert experience. :D

Oh man, two more weeks to wait! Well, at least we know when to start looking for an announcement rather than scouring the news every day. Thanks for the info.

I think it's great that you got to meet Elliott and the others, but I must defend poor Tay Tay. I will agree with you that he does not have the friendliest demeanor from a distance. I saw him in Greensboro and before he actually came over to the fans he didn't look like the most gregarious person in the world. He is not a very smiley person. However, I met him in both New Jersey and Greensboro and he was very sweet and shy. In Greensboro, he spent significantly more time with the fans than any of the other idols and assured everyone that he would not leave until everyone was taken care of. He was very quiet, but was patient, smiled sweetly, and joked around with the throngs of fans. Furthermore, I've heard that Taylor takes the most time with the fans from a variety of reports from different venues. I feel certain that he had other obligations or he would have been there sooner. I think a lot of times Taylor gets a bad rap because he has a very low-key, shy manner that doesn't quite gel with his stage persona. However, if you meet him you'll see that he is just as kind and gracious as the others (Daughtry being the only exception to the kind and gracious rule, in my experience).

With that said, I am thrilled that you had such a great experience with meeting Elliott. Unfortunately, he, Katharine, and Lisa are the only ones I haven't had the opportunity to speak to. Just my luck!

I am SO glad you got to meet Elliott, ElliottCat. I think you might have been the person who i mailed the banner too> PLEASE tell me it got to you in time! I did not find out until Monday that it had to go all the way across the country to Cali so I hope it made it to you!!

I have heard that Taylor usually signs a lot of autographs, and I have seen video of him doing it. But in San Diego, from what I saw, he did not do anything friendly. I was standing by the busses from 2-4pm and watched him walk in and out but never smile and only once give the tiniest little wave. There were a few Taylor fans by me saying "He's totally ignoring us! Does he want to sell records or not?!" and going on and on. They were really upset. I left at 4 to do banner stuff, but came back by just before I went into the concert around 6:30. The people told me that he had never come over and signed, and the Taylor fan was saying "Maybe I'll meet him another day..." If he came out between 6:30 and 7:00, I don't know. All I know was he was not very nice to us. Maybe it just wasn't his day. Maybe he was friendly after 6:30. Maybe he was friendly to people somewhere else. But to us, he was rude.

Yes I am the person you mailed it to! It came in on Thursday - just in time!

Only getting people to sign the banner was not as easy as people have made it sound. I set up my "Elliott Fans Sign Here" poster and set the banner up and got out my sharpies and waited... And waited and waited and waited! Nobody came! Finally around 6, when I had half an hour left I picked up the banner and the sign and started marching around with it, going up to groups of people and asking them if they were Elliott fans. I finally got signatures, but it took forever!

I don't know what I did wrong..

I've attended three concerts and last night's concert was the best so far. Everyone seemed so relaxed, congenial and accessible. Elliott looked really happy and all the idols were very good about taking pictures and answering questions. Last night had a very positive vibe, maybe it has to do with the California Sun or the big fat contracts the remaining unsigned are about to get, but it was all love last night. I also finally met Myshel (Elliott the Thief) and her mother and they are both gorgeous, sweet and petite. I have some great pictures, but I have never figured out how to post pictures on Etrain. Maybe I will try tomorrow after the LA concert and after party. Elliottcat will you be attending the LA concert or after party?

Call4Elliott, it also could be Elliott is finally finding a "groove" and becoming more used to this lifestyle. In the beginning i am sure he had a hard adjustment to make. Anytime we do something for awhile we find out better how to handle it and step into a groove.

I am sure the Cali sun played a part too tho. :)

I can't wait for my next two concerts!!! Not too much longer now!

Hi Doxie, yes I agree, however I would say that his demeanor last night was very similar to his demeanor when I met him in May, before the tour started. I believe with experience one learns how to display their public persona, but I also believe that environment and situation play a big part in one's overall mood and demeanor.

Maybe it wasn't Taylor's day, but I don't think he was intentionally rude. Elliott did the same thing when I was in Greensboro. That is, he got off and on the bus repeatedly and never came over to see the fans screaming for him. I was very disappointed. Elliott does have a friendlier smile and wave than Taylor, but I think that's just their personalities and it has nothing to do with being unfriendly on Taylor's part. I can see how someone would get that impression from Taylor's personality as that is what everyone was saying in Greensboro at first while he was walking back and forth to the buses. However, when he came over three times and took care of all the fans one by one, those same people were saying "Wow! What a nice guy!" I don't think he is a rude person by any strecth of the imagination. He's just very reserved and when he doesn't come over to meet fans, everyone comes away with that perception. But from what I've witnessed more than once and read about Taylor, he is anything but rude.

By the way ElliottCat, the afterparty they're referring to is the LMBO concert at the Viper Room. If you can get tickets, you want to see this. Taylor's band is outstanding! Taylor in this type of setting is unbelievable. He will blow you away! Elliott said he would be there tonight. I know you've probably heard some of their songs together from these concerts, but there are not any that do it justice. I saw them at Coyote Joe's and it was just an amazing experience! I was not expecting to see Elliott at all and I was truly mesmerized by the whole experience! Then Taylor said slowly and matter-of factly, "Well you know I was on this tv show...with this guy..........And you know at first I was kind of mad at him.....because this guys got one of the best throats I've ever heard!" Then he introduced Elliott and Elliott came walking onto the stage! I was blown away! Their voices were indescribable together and the strength of their friendship was just so obvious. You need to see this to believe it! If you can make it, don't miss it. That was the most amazing night ever!

I would have signed the banner if I'd seen it, I even brought my own green Sharpie, but I got there close to 7 pm. Had to wait for husband to get home to watch our kid, so that I could have a night out adoring Elliott.

I'm so envious that you got to meet him, but happy for you at the same time.

I had floor seats but kinda far back, but it was all about being there to see and hear him sing "live" and he didn't disappoint. :D

I totally agree with you. I got to see Taylor at the St Paul concert...plus see him perform with LMBO. I think a lot of people take his laid back shyness as kind of annoyance.

Hey ElliottCat, your story was total coolness until I read that because I so could not wait anymore. The 2 weeks, did you just assume that or did one of them actually suggest/insinuate that? I guess we waited 3 months already so --- what's 2 more weeks.

Well it wasn't so much that Taylor didn't sign. Kellie Pickler didn't sign either, but she smiled and waved at us. I thought that was sweet enough. Taylor totally IGNORED us! Only once did he do the tiniest wave of the hand (and even then he wasn't exactly looking toward us), the rest of the time he pretended we weren't there! He would be standing 5 feet away with people asking him to come over and he completely ignored their existance. If he had just waved I wouldn't have been so upset. Chris never came over, but he smiled and waved. Bucky and Elliott came out a bunch. They only came over once, but they smiled and waved everytime people screamed for them. Kat smiled and waved. Taylor ignored. It's not that E has a friendlier smile and wave than Taylor, it's that Elliott DID smile and wave and Taylor did not.

I'm not usually mean when I talk about Taylor. I think he's talented and I voted for him during the finale. I know at other concerts he has been nice, and I know he might've been having a bad day, but I'm telling you in San Diego he was rude to me and all the SPers around me. I wasn't exepcting an autograph, but recognition that we were out there in the hot sun waiting to meet him would have been nice.

but it just might not have been a good day for him... We all have days like those.
