Title: Viper Room

sherwood - August 27, 2006 08:23 AM (GMT)
I realize there will probably be a full report out before everybody gets up tomorrow and this will already be old news, but for anybody on the other side of the earth still up at the wee hours, this is what I'm reading on Taylor's excoboard, care of people who are trying (with great difficulty) to make cellcert connection (whatever that is):

Elliott sang superstition and he and Tay sang "Gimme some lovin"

A whole bunch of industry people are there including from the Firm

and, this, about a girl at the venue who is reporting back to the poster:

She also had this to say about Elliott:
"He came out through the crowd by me and was talking to a few people, so I just asked him if he was signed yet. He said "oh yeah, totally," with a big smile. That's why I assumed it was known."
(she thought we all knew that he had a deal already).

I'm not quite sure if this pic is from last nite, but I think so...the poster said it was during 'Dance to the Music'.

Great Pic and Great News!! I guess he'll be making an announcement soon. :rocker:

sherwood - August 27, 2006 01:40 PM (GMT)
Uh-Oh, I dunno, Stazzie, did you see what Linda said in the thread just above this one? Sounds more logical to me. Otherwise it would clash with what Bucky said at the buses about all three of them.
See what can happen with a broken telephone?

courtie59 - August 27, 2006 01:52 PM (GMT)
Sherwood,
What's Taylor's "excoboard"? Apologies for the ignorance, but that's a new one for me.
Tks.

lindagt - August 27, 2006 01:54 PM (GMT)
Well I just think it's kind of precious because the world is all rejoicing because of two words out of Elliott's mouth - "Yes, totally" which may or may not have been the answer to the question she asked :D The outcome is going to be the same - whether he was answering that question or not.

Also of note in all the recaps on mj's - it seems that Elliott did quite a few songs last night with Taylor and the guys - which is not true of Ace and Bucky. He's almost like a member of the band already, lol ... And the same poster who told us that Elliott was signed - said that Use Me was the highlight of the whole LMBO show. And she is a Taylor fan. The Firm had people there and - maybe a John Mayer sighting? I'm sure that at some point Jessykaw will give us all the first hand details.

From what I can read on other boards, there probably will not be vids - hope I am wrong. Apparently the Viper Room was pretty strict about taping stuff. The Taylor board cell cert was supposedly courtesy of a fan who stuck her cell phone in her bra :rotfl:

Hey Linda, I'm reading a thread under AI/Taylor board about the Viper Room last night. A poster named TbSP was at the Viper Room last night and has some great things to say about Elliott. It's the next best thing to being there.

Wow Gypsy, that's a great thread. Yeah, I read on mj's about Taylor just walking off the stage and leaving Elliott there - he didn't expect it at all - don't know why he left - someone said he seemed in a hurry. The band seemed to help E out to finish the set by moving on to something he was familiar with.

Everybody loves Elliott - the theme has not changed. I've read comments from so many people who thought Elliott's performances bored them on the show, but they love seeing him perform live.

ohioguy45780 - August 27, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
It's all because of what material Elliott was stuck with on the show. Once we get into the real world of performing and recording songs, then we'll have a clearer idea of where Mr. Yamin is headed.

I agree, I think the Viper Room statement is an odd one.

I am certain Elliott has a deal somewhere. Indie, major, whatever. Surely his cousin Josh will place him under his own label if no one else will.

lindagt - August 27, 2006 03:44 PM (GMT)
This was my favorite statement out of that thread.

"Taylor knows talent when he see's it and Elliot has a voice better than anyone who has hit the the industry in quite some time."

Taylor is not the only one who knows talent when he sees it. :P

Oy, Courtie...and here you were just saying, you had no time for these boards? Well, here's the link, it's kind of like a Taylor etrain, and sometimes they have nice things to say about Elliott. I find it so much nicer than some of those sleazy threads they have over at Yaminions!

"Elliot's got incredible talent. He is still a bit "rough around the edges" as far as lives performances go but is making great strides IMO. Taylor is really helping him along. "

Hmmm...this sorta sounds like a backhanded compliment to me. Well, I guess it's a good thing Elliott has Taylor to "help him along".

As long as they promote him and buy his CD's I don't care if they think Taylor is singlehandedly responsible for Elliott's stage presence :D They are converting the massive Soul Patrol and that spells $$ for Elliott.

edit to add: I'm starting to think some of them are more impressed with Elliott than Taylor by now.

SoulMusicRocks - August 27, 2006 08:34 PM (GMT)
This sounds pretty interesting. It's good to hear that Elliott is gaining a stronger stage presence and ease with singing on-stage. Taylor is a decent singer with a powerful stage presence. Elliott is a brilliant singer with a decent stage presence. Now with the AI tour and performances with Taylors band, I'm sure he has grown in confidence as well as learning stronger stage presence. Besides, it is having fun after the stress of a day on the tour too.

ETA: By "Superstition", do you mean Stevie Wonder's song? I'm sure that sounded awesome.

Taylor board

Thanks for the link, Sherwood! I'll take a look. I love reading the good stuff about Elliott and I also really like Taylor.

I know I said I don't have time for the Boards, and I don't really, but its addictive! Can't keep away for too long - I did try, as you know... :D

I think that the post-concert jams with Taylor are great for Elliott, also for the stage experience and also cos he's free from Idol restraints there. "Taylor knows talent when he see's it and Elliot has a voice better than anyone who has hit the the industry in quite some time." Taylor knows what he's talking about. I totally agree.

I'm expecting Elliott to be signed by a significant label and don't think I'm going to be disappointed. Not long now before we know.

arkansas_E_fan - August 28, 2006 02:34 AM (GMT)
Ok, let's just think about this answer to this question. This is Elliott can't you just see him being himself and actually answering the question for anyone that asked? Just something to think about.

Anyway, we all know Elliott is signed, it's just a matter of time until it's announced who he's signed with. :)

You know, its funny because so many of the people on other blogs who do concert recaps (or recaps of when Elliott has performed with LiMBO) say how surprised they are that Elliott is so good. It leads me to seriously wonder what they were doing during the AI shows this season. His voice hasn't changed - its the same gorgeous instrument we fell in love with during the season. Now suddenly they hear it? Well, I'm glad that Elliott is gaining new fans - better late than never. :D

Oh, and one more little celebration . . . :eisfree: :woohoo:

Many music lovers only become excited when there's raw passion involved, and a great voice is secondary. Wonderful to have both!

This was the funniest statement out of the thread.

" "Have you seen a little guy running around?" asks Taylor to the audience. everyone is like, huh? maybe some people know exactly what he's talking about.

"Ephraym?? Ephraym?? Ephraym..."

Then Elliott gets on stage and they sing, "Use Me" "

:D

Well Taylor's friends say he has a great sense of humor - we're it seeing now.

I think many people are just extremely visual rather than aural. Elliott's look -- and early in the show he had his shoulders hunched a lot and wasn't always projecting very much -- didn't grab them, and Taylor's or Kat's or Chris's or Ace's did. .... And since they don't really connect that well with things that come in first through the ears they just passed Elliott over.

As somebody said upthread, now that he's relaxed and moving and thus more captivating to look at, a lot of people pay enough initial attention to really hear his stunning voice and vocal delivery, as they just didn't bother doing on the show because they didn't get the initial visual clues that they tend to depend on.

It's really interesting to see recap after recap where big Taylor and Chris fans, especially, say, wow, Elliott has the greatest voice, and I never noticed him on the show. They truly do seem more impressed with him than with their own faves (though nobody really admits it.

What kills me is I read on that thread (I think) that "I used to actually nod off when Elliott started singing on AI"! What!? How in the world do you nod off?! I know people are visual but I would think that when you close your eyes the voice would hit you! Crazy!

They're really really REALLY visual ... Seriously, I think many many people are too easily distracted by what they see -- and whether it fits into a category of things they think they want to see -- to pay much attention to something subtle and complex that comes in through the ears. .... Besides not catching people's attention visually, Elliott's aural stuff isn't screaming. It's all about subtlety and communication, acomplex rhythms and riffs, nd many many people aren't attuned to that. Television certainly doesn't teach you to be, and most radio really doesn't either.

I just read another recap on mj's where the recapper said that Elliott and Chris were good on their duet, but that she completely nodded out on Elliott after that. In part, it seemed to be because she thought he looked bad in the Lakers jersey. Somehow, that managed to completely replace SINGING in her head. ... That's unfathomable to me, but there it is.

This also makes me think that Elliott's street-y, hip-hoppy style of dress and so on is going to mean that a lot of white people won't even give him a glance once he gets going. And we can see that a lot of people aren't sensitive enough listeners to be turned on by his voice. He really really needs good songs on his cd, and to have some that are pretty simple and radio-friendly, to get a lot of people to listen to him. ... Not that I mind him being a niche artist. But I do want him to have a big enough niche to keep on and on and on doing cds and tours.
