LOS ANGELES - Goodbye yellow brick road, hello hip hop.

Elton John tells Rolling Stone magazine that he wants to record a hip-hop album with Grammy-winning producer Dr. Dre.

"I want to work with Pharrell, Timbaland, Snoop, Kanye, Eminem and just see what happens," John says in the Sept. 7 issue. "It may be a disaster, it could be fantastic, but you don't know until you try."

The 59-year-old says he is a fan of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" and Tupac Shakur's "California Love."

"I want to bring my songs and melodies to hip-hop beats," John says. "I love these beats, but I have no idea how to get them."

John performed Eminem's song "Stan" with the rapper during the 2001 Grammy awards.

John's new album, "The Captain and the Kid," is due in September.

Tupac Shakur's "California Love."

Love that song.

I found out about this about a week ago because I get Tupac email alerts from Yahoo.

He was inspired to do this after working on Tupac's "Ghetto Gospel", in which they used a sample of Elton John's "Indian Sunset".

Oh man.....I'm such a big fan of Sir Elton that I gotta hear this.

I guess that's what happens when you become a rock 'n' roll legend. You can just do the most outrageous things and get away with it :rotfl:

We should give Elton the benefit of the doubt, after all, the man is a musical genius. Alot of people were a little iffy on Grammy night a few years ago when Aretha Franklin sang Nessun Dorma, an aria that Luciano Pavarotti was supposed to sing, and she blew everyone away. Just because an artist is indentified with a certain genre of music doesn't mean they can't branch out. Whatever the outcome, it will definitely be interesting.

He just came out with a new CD, "The Captain and the Kid". So far, I've only heard "The Bridge" and it's pretty good. I'm still wondering if the hip hop album will be made, though! :D

I agree...I think it could be great to put an Elton melody to a hip hop beat. I think he should let the hip hop artists actually perform the song though. He should stay at his piano. Well, I should say, they could perform together as long as Elton is at the piano.

Most hip-hop hooks/beats come from classic songs anyway, so this *might* not be a bad thing.
