thecutehippie - September 4, 2006 05:21 AM (GMT)
Steve Irwin died in Australia...
Yahoo News Linkthis is terrible cause i know he's got a couple of small children...
and i had no idea that stingrays were that dangerous.
ElliottCat101 - September 4, 2006 06:53 AM (GMT)
that makes me so sad! I used to watch his show everyday!
And his children are so young! That is terrible news indeed. The Irwin family is in my thoughts and prayers..
LekiliLovesElliott - September 4, 2006 06:53 AM (GMT)
I was so shocked when I saw this. So sad for his wife and kids. :(
I'm not an expert, but I heard the stingrays that live in the great barrier reef are more bigger and powerful than the ones that reside in the Carribean or the ones they allow you to pet at certain aquariums.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I am heartbroken. I absolutely loved that guys enthusiasm and zest for life. This is so sad.

Irwin was also seen as a vocal critic of wildlife hunts in Australia. The federal government recently dropped plans to allow crocodile safaris for wealthy tourists in the Northern Territory following his vehement objections.
Irwin told the Australian television program "A Current Affair" that "killing one of our beautiful animals in the name of trophy hunting will have a very negative impact on tourism, which scares the living daylights out of me." |
-that sums up this man for me.
thecutehippie - September 4, 2006 06:59 AM (GMT)
yeah, i did some research about stingrays just now and discovered that their barbs are pretty long and look like daggers...and they contain venom...it would be the equivalent of being stabbed and the knife having poison on it, i guess.
i read on an australian newspaper's web site that his wife terri is off on an expedition in tazmania and hadn't yet been told.
his family's definitely in my prayers.
DJ babblefish - September 4, 2006 07:55 AM (GMT)
Oh my God! That's terrible that his family doesn't even know yet. Awful.
I can't say that I'm entirely shocked that he was killed with all of the crazy things that he did. I'm devasted about his family though.
He was definitely an entertaining fellow.
At least he died what he loved doing.. I'm sure that he wouldn't have had it any other way!
LekiliLovesElliott - September 4, 2006 08:00 AM (GMT)
According to CNN, his wife has been notified.
nikkib703 - September 4, 2006 10:36 AM (GMT)
I am so stunned by this. It's unbelievable. What a sad and sudden loss...his children are so young. This is heartbreaking news. We should all pray for his family and the zoo he loved so much.
katirpet - September 4, 2006 11:15 AM (GMT)
This man had such a thirst for life and a respect for all living creatures. It is always sad to lose someone of this caliber. My heart goes out to his family.

I came here to post about Steve too. What a shocker! His family must be devastated.
SoulMusicRocks - September 4, 2006 02:12 PM (GMT)
That is really terrible. He was a really good person and cared for animal welfare a great deal. It's a loss.
mcornelio - September 4, 2006 03:53 PM (GMT)
Steve Irwin is a great man who made a huge impact on the world because of his love for animals and people.
It's amazing what one voice and one life can do.
He will be greatly missed.
Our prayers go out to his family and friends.

My thoughts exactly. I read too that it is very rare that someone is killed by a sting ray. Very sad......
KrazeeK120 - September 4, 2006 06:48 PM (GMT)
I'm really sad. I always enjoyed watching the Crocodile Hunter on TV. From what I understand, being killed by a stingray is very rare. It was because of where he got stung (in the heart) that it was fatal, probably. He's handled much more dangerous animals than that before. Sometimes, there's no explanation for why things happen the way they do.
Triceradon - September 4, 2006 10:00 PM (GMT)
I was going to post it too. When I saw clips of him on the news and the reporter referring to him in the past tense, I was stunned. I didn't expect that AT ALL. I felt almost like... it was never even a possibility. Even with all the danger he put himself into, I didn't expect he'd die... I mean, eventually yeah, but when he was an old, old man... Dang.
This is sad news to me. I could only imagine how his wife, two kids, and friends feel... Actually, one of his friends were holding back tears in an interview. He spoke kind of in a wimper.
He was a cool guy. Funny too. Tuned in to late night talk shows when he was on. Enjoyed those times. Last time I saw him, he wore jeans and a blue polo, I believe -- way out of the ordinary from those khaki shorts and open shirt.
...Heh.
And, yeah, he died because he was pierced in the heart. From the news showed I watched, they say that stingrays are normally passive animals and sometimes people swim with them and stuff without incident.
Danielle.Hearts.E - September 4, 2006 10:13 PM (GMT)
I just heard this morning...
Rest in peace, Steve Irwin...you will be missed. You have brought so much knowledge to America. :restinpeace:
My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones. :(

I was so sad when I heard the news. I couldn't believe it. I really liked him. He was a lot of fun but I was always worried about his safety. My prayers go out to his family, friends and fans. He will be missed.

I'm so sad!!!! I loved the Crocodile Hunter
noira - September 5, 2006 12:53 AM (GMT)
I was also shocked and saddned to hear the news this morning. He was quite a character!
I cringed many times when I tuned into some of his shows, he sure liked to live dangerously. I feel terrible for his family and friends, but as someone said, he probably wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
What a great advocate for animal and wildlife welfare!!!
He will be sorely missed!
R.I.P.

I was so upset when I heard about Steve Irwin yesterday. I'm still upset about it. I loved his shows and his recent ESPN commercial. I tried watching some of The Crocodile Hunter shows on Animal Planet last night, but it was very difficult. Steve and his family and friends are in my prayers.
ECrazy3 - September 5, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
It's such sad news.
He was a great man, and a great father. His poor family is in my thoughts and prayers as well.
It's so very, very sad...

i was so sad when i heard this news, i loved this guy! his love for the animals was amazing and that's what i loved about him, cause i love animals too
i was reading in the animal planet website that there's the footage when this terrible thing happened
his manager said: "It shows that Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came up, and spiked him here (in the chest), and he pulled it out and the next minute he's gone," Stainton told reporters in Cairns, where Irwin's body was taken for an autopsy.
i really hope they dont show the video on tv :(

I hope it isn't shown, either. Not just out of respect for the man and his family, but I think I speak for alot of people when I say I would prefer to remember him for how he lived, not how he died, and you know, he really did know how to live, didn't he?
inyoureyes - September 6, 2006 01:32 PM (GMT)
Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. During his lifetime, Steve Irwin had a lot of those moments. He died doing what he loved to do.
RIP
erika-loves-elliott - September 7, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
I heard a couple of minutes after the article was submitted.
Its really sad. My brother and I watched his show all the time.
Two of his idols have passed already (Steve Irwin and Eddie Guerrero).
You should have seen his face when The Crocodile Hunter was on TV a couple of nights ago.
:(
