Title: What If It Rains?
Description: Is it enclosed/covered?

I Love Elliott - September 24, 2006 12:12 AM (GMT)
Is it enclosed or covered in case it rains?
Also
Are the seats chairbacks or bleacher style?
I need to know what to bring...rain gear/stadium seat /etc.
Any other info would be helpful!!!

lindagt - September 24, 2006 12:15 AM (GMT)
It is a covered "shed" style venue and the seats do have backs to my recollection.

Thanks........
Lets just hope the wind is not blowing and blowing rain!!
Coats and blankets might not be a bad idea either. Southern VA has had some really cool nights lately.

just fyi, the joke in Richmond is that of course it's raining, the fair is in town! so slickers or something might be wise, even just for the walk from parking to amphitheater. Also, most parking is in a big grassy field. so don't show up in purty lil strappy sandals. and yes, i DO know that it's not really "purty". :D The facility has normal seats with backs and arms and they are actually pretty comfy with nice leg room. and i'm not a teeny woman! I think you will all be pleased with the facility. and don't forget to whack a mole and enjoy a lovely funnel cake on the way in! :bunny: :bunny:

GREAT Description! You're making me hungry for fair food too! Sausages and peppers!

Linda, while i do love ALL fair food (notice the caveat that i'm not a tiny woman!), the fair is the only time of year i allow myself a funnel cake. hmmmm, fried dough with powdered sugar. could there be anything better? well, Elliott, of course. but i get to have him AND funnel cake. the world is a wonderful place sometimes! :bunny: :bunny:

Exactly what is an elephant ear? I thought it was about the same as a funnel cake...what is the difference?

imthesame said she could not get to the Ohio State Fair this year to get a funnel cake, so she guessed she would just have to come to the Virginia State Fair to get one!

okay Sharon, there are many out there who will tell you that a funnel cake is synonymous with an elephant ear. They are clearly insane, you must stay away from those people! Both "foods" are made out of dough and they are both deep fried and they will both kill you instantaneously with their fat content! but there, the similarities end. an elephant ear is a big slab of dough that is just tossed disdainfully into the oil. it looks like a plate-sized rawhide that one might give a very large dog. A funnel cake, on the other hand, is an artfully drawn spirograph of dough, drizzled into the oil and fried until it is golden on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. Powdered sugar is sprinkled on top. Do not be fooled Sharon, and accept no substitutes. I'm glad i was here to help out before you made a dreadful mistake. :bunny: :bunny: :bunny:

Here in Canada we call those elephant ears Beaver Tails LOL. Of course there are NO calories in anything from the fair :rotfl: :rotfl:

I sure I could have joined you this year. I hope that everyone who is going has a wonderful time and you can eat some of that Fair food for me. LOL

Oh, I am so relieved to have read this very informative post from you, Maggiemay. I can plainly see that you are a connoisseur in this area. And, I do appreciete your direction here to prevent me, and others, from making such a fatal mistake.

:)

I have absolutely no interest in eating a Beaver Tail, thank you. I will stick with the funnel cake delicacy. Nothing else will do....elephant or beaver are both clearly inferior.

Are the seat sections in the amphitheatre "flat" or "elevated"?
In other words, are all levels (A-F) like floor seats in a concert venue? Or are they all elevated like the nose bleed section, in a concert venue?
Can't really tell by the seating chart.

Cindylooo - September 29, 2006 05:40 PM (GMT)
seating chart doesn`t give much info. Is there alot of walking? Are there stairs to each section? Just in case my mom goes, she is handicapped. Section E, are there stairs to this or is it all one level?
Thanks to anyone responding :)

lindagt - September 29, 2006 06:34 PM (GMT)
It's all pretty flat as I remember - there may be some gradation so that people in the back can see - but there are no "bleacher" type seats that I remember. Anyone remember anything differently?

I saw that too - but Weather . com is typically inaccurate that far out. We can check about wed. and they "might" be more accurate. I'm hoping for a crisp cool fall night.

I don't even START trusting the weather forecast more than 36 hours ahead of time!

(especially since Tropical Storm Gaston was just going to be a small rain event) NOT!

Gogo - September 30, 2006 07:46 PM (GMT)
Looks like we'll have to move the event to Las Vegas. Better weather there. Good excuse to go see my kids. LOL :rotfl:

The CA Etrainers are going to hopefully some day have an event we've been talking LV or wine country. See if Elliott comes our way.

I have not been to a concert there in several years, but a couple of notes that i can recall. All the seats are on a grade, but not nearly as steep as nosebleed seats. If I recall correctly, there are a few steps scattered about the place. but since it's fairly new, it must be ADA compliant, so i'd imagine that there are areas that will be accessible, if it all isn't. and there will be quite a bit of walking, but mainly between your car and the gate. the classic amphitheater is right inside one of the gates (there are maps on the state fair website). park near(ish) that gate if you'd like to minimize your walking. I hope that helps.

Oh, and there was some concern about the weather on here. as of this morning's news, they were calling for a rainy friday and saturday, but NOT sunday. since most of the parking is in grassy areas, it may be a little muddy. but as of today, they're not expecting actual rain on the day of the concert.
