Title: These Songs For You...live
Description: What will Elliott Perform in Richmond???
donnysgirl - September 24, 2006 10:06 PM (GMT)
I have been listening to These Songs for You Live by Donny Hathaway all morning. I am a huge Donny Hathaway fan (hence the name Donnysgirl) and Elliott recommended this CD when I had the pleasure of meeting him in April. He also mentioned that if given the opportunity he would sing the entire CD!!! I met him before he sang A Song For You and he also mentioned that he wanted to make it far enough in the competition to sing a Donny song. With that being said I would put my money on him singing some of these songs as well. Here is my rundown of the set list:
From Live CD
A Song for You - of course
What's Going On - already performed the song like Donny with LMBO
Superwoman - Donny's interpretation of Stevie Wonder song
Yesterday - Donny's beautiful cover of the Beatles (Elliott in Beatles shirt?)
Others
I Believe To My Soul - of course (but not on Live CD)
Moody's Mood - only single concert goers can purchase
If You Really Love Me - early favorite of his
The beauty of this concert is that he can sing whatever he wants :thud: No real agenda...he doesn't have to promote American Idol or his new material...just be himself and have a great time with his AMAZING fans.
Any other ideas to add to the set list??????????

I hope that he sings the Bill Withers "Use Me" that he has been performing with LMBO. If he had to reprise anything he sang from Idol - in addition to A Song for You - I would love to hear him sing A House is Not A Home - the full version and just possibly Home for sentimental reasons - since he will be home.
I really like the idea of him exploring 60's and 70's soul with LMBO and I'm sure they will come up with some wonderful surprises.
You were really lucky to have that conversation with Elliott in the spring. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Oh, I just love every single song you mentioned! Hope he does a few of them anyway.

Ok...this is going to be fun! I totally fogot about Use Me. I LOVE when he sings that song. I also forgot about Home...that is a must for Richmond
If he sings any Luther I will lose it. I shamed myself the first time that he sang it....I was a total fangirl in front of my boss at the Finale. I just saw Heather Headley and Brian Mcknight last night and Brian sang Superstar....I am just getting over it.

I love anything Luther too - but I have to say I am OVER Never Too Much. There is such a catalog of Luther to choose from - something else would be nice. I hope he can do some Stevie stuff too. Doesn't LMBO do Superstition regularly as part of their show? There's a lot of stuff that LMBO does with Taylor that I would love to hear Elliott's rendition of.

As long as he sings 'Home', the full version, I wouldn't care if he sings the phone book! Ok, even if he doesn't sing 'Home' I will be thrilled to have seen him perform. But man-oh-man, if he were to sing Home...just....*sigh*
Can't wait for the Richmond show!! :woohoo:
donnysgirl - September 24, 2006 11:48 PM (GMT)
I know! I can't wait for the Richmond show myself. I can't believe it's almost here.
Lindagt- I'm with you...I don't want to hear any other songs from the AI concert. Don't get me wrong he can sing to me all night...but if I had to prioritize I would choose things we don't get to hear often.
Realitymom - Hearing him sing Home just might bring a tear to my eye. I have become such a nut...when Martha Stewart was promoting her Season Premier she used Buble's Home and everytime the commercial came on I would jump up like Elliott was singing.

The funny thing is that most of the songs the LMBO performs would sound a lot better with Elliott singing. I like Taylor, but his vocals don't cut me like Elliott. Is it October 8th yet?

I just can't wait to hear him sing. What a joy. Do you think he will give us a taste of some of the songs he has been writing?
ithad2bu - October 6, 2006 07:37 PM (GMT)
I'd love to hear any of those Donny songs, and truth be told, Elliott could sing nursery rhymes and I'd probably be happy.
While he said he didn't have any original things ready for LiMBO to learn this week, I have a feeling that the things that he chooses will be fabulous - just like the times he was given the choice of what to sing on AI. Definitely not the standard fare. I CANNOT WAIT to go to this concert Sunday!!!
That being said, I'm intrigued by the "Gnarls Barkley-style" original song that he's almost finished recording..... I love "Crazy" but must admit I don't know much else about GB. However, I'm looking forward to Elliott's funky, soulful, bluesy work, and if it's in the style of Barkley, then I guess I better go out and learn more about him too.
Back to Elliott.... He seems like he's stoked for this concert - in good health and voice....And coupled with LiMBO??? Brian at that keyboard is altogether an amazing site to behold.
Whee!!!!!!!!!!!! This is going to be SO MUCH FUN! A free, relaxed Elliott with a great band, in his hometown, outside at a fun venue. What could be better?

Hi Gogo,
Unfortunately, your NO Rain dance didn't do the trick until after the walk was over; however, there was still a GREAT turnout! My husband was amazed. He said he was expecting to see maybe 100 people, but when we drove up, the entire field was full of people, and the parking area was full. Everyone was in great spirits, so even with the flooding, thunder, lightning, and torrential rain, it was still a great success for JDRF! Yeah!
Thanks for trying! :)

Wow! You are all awesome!! :rocker:
Doing the walk in such terrible weather!
Kudos to everyone and enjoy the rest of the weekend. The best is still to come!!
Recaps please!! :D

Ditto to that Courtie. I'm sad our NO rain dance didn't work. I wonder how much they raised.

Well, from the looks of the park full of people, it seemed like at least 800 people (but I'm notoriously bad at estimates). If each of those people raised $100, that would be $80,000. Then there was the drive through booth, where people who didn't want to walk could drop their money off. I have NO way of guessing that, but perhaps a safe estimate could be 200, so how is $100,000 as a total out in left field guess??? (I'll be on the lookout in the papers to see if it's mentioned and to see how off the mark I am.)
Anyone else who was there want to give your estimates?

Yeah, I was kinda sad that he didn't sing "Home" last night. Kinda felt like that one was a bit of a sure thing... but Elliott continues to be a man full of surprises... unexpected, wonderful songs; new looks, new stylings, new dance moves. It's so exciting to be a fan of his b/c you just never know what to expect! But he never disappoints!
OMG... On the Today Show Wesdding, even though it's not Elliott's voice, they're playing Elliott's song at the reception - Home, It Had to Be You.... (OK, I know other people have been known to sing those songs before, but the coincidence of those being highlighted side by side can't be denied!

I know, I would have loved to hear home. But the great thing is that he did exactly what he wanted to do and "knocked us off our feet"! Who knew Ready for Love would have me wanting to melt into a chocolate puddle at the State Fair! As you know, I was in HEAVEN with all of the songs he sang from the "These Songs for You...Live" CD....Ghetto Boy, I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know, What's Going On, You've Got a Friend.... :thud: Goodness I love that man. Congrats to all of the fans on an FANTASTIC job on fundraising...everyone should be really proud (and dry by now).
