Title: Heroes

Amunet - September 26, 2006 03:23 AM (GMT)
Ok.. Who watched it tonight??

I did and it was pretty spiffy so far!!

I'm loving Hiro and the cheerleader girl right now.
I'm sure the others will grow on me though!

Next episode looks very interesting and and yeah.... I really hope NBC keeps this show.

If you missed it, an encore is coming on tomorrow (Tues, 26th)... so catch it then :D

nikkib703 - September 26, 2006 02:45 PM (GMT)
Loved it!!! Each character was intriguing, and I found myself wondering about the cheerleader's parents (not just the dad), and if she was adopted by them for a reason. I was going to watch the Saints game, but then I remembered that this was on, and now I'm glad I didn't miss it. Now I'll have to tweak my work schedule so that I'm home on Monday nights!! This is one new show that I think just might live up to the hype!

DawnlikesElliott - September 26, 2006 04:17 PM (GMT)
I really liked the show. I find the character who paints things before they happen the most interesting. I also enjoy the cheerleader and Milo's Character. I don't really understand what the other girl's hero thing is. She sees herself? Anyway I loved it. I just hope they keep the show going so they don't leave us hanging with a ton of unanswered questions.

Triceradon - September 26, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
I liked the premise of this show from the previews. People with superpowers? Come on! But that's just one thing that's a certain must-watch-at-least-one-episode-to-see-how-I-like-it for me. The 4400 is one of my favorite shows. Like the X-men movies.

But the previews for this show didn't do it justice. I wasn't expecting it to be so good. Hiro is awesome (though, for slow readers the sub-titles may have gone too fast). The cheerleader in the previews didn't really seem to be that great a deal. But I like her. The brothers are cool. Even the woman who played in Final Destination -- now THAT'S exciting. It's like "I didn't do it! It was my reflection! I swear!" The taxi driver and the artist were also nice touches... I really like that diversity in the cast. Japanese, Indian. Nice. They don't seem forced.

Oh, and btw, when the younger brother was telling the older brother about his dreams (sorry, didn't remember any names but Hiro's, lol) I kinda thought it was weird that the older brother was on the banner in ads I've seen online. I was thinking maybe he was hiding his own little power... I hope the future of this series is as good as this first episode. This first episode was soooo great! It was a lot of character development to me. I really liked it.

Might be my favorite new show of the season so far! :bounce:

ElliottCat101 - September 26, 2006 10:05 PM (GMT)
My sister saw the first episode back in July and told me she wasn't sure if I was going to like it. Now that I've seen the first episode myself, I agree with her: I'm not sure if I like it! LOL

It had things I like. I liked the character of the Taxi driver guy. He seemed really nice and cool. I also liked the painter guy, and I think he has the coolest power! And the younger brother (as you can see, I'm great with names! LOL) was cool as well, and I thought it was funny that it turned out he was wrong and really can't fly!. And it had some plot points that I liked, like the fact that the Cheerleaders dad was also the evil guy!

But it also had things I did not like. The stripper, for one, I found annoying (And what exactly is her power anyway?! She has split personalities or something? That's not a power!) I didn't like her son either. I thought he seemed like a brat. I thought the cheerleader was over dramatic. Why is being able to heal almost instantly going to ruin your life? On the contrary, it seems like it would make life much nicer! LOL But seriously, nobody needs to know if she doesn't want them to... And while I thought Hiro was funny, it really annoyed me when he was like "I'll prove to you that I have powers!" And then waits until his friend leaves the table to actually use his powers! Why didn't he do it in front of his friend if he wanted him to believe him??

I think I need to watch it a few more times and let the plot develop a little more and the characters grow on me, and then I'll decide if I like it or not. As of now I'm really not sure.

:imo:

Amunet - September 28, 2006 06:45 AM (GMT)
I agree with the cheerleader being a bit too dramatic, BUT she is supposed to be a teenage girl.. and well.. you know how teenagers are. Their life is one big drama queen fit.

I'm also curious to know if the younger brother has a power of his own! I really wanted him to fly, but it's cool that his older bro can. I do hope that char gets his own power.

As for the whorey mom.... it's like she has a doppleganger. I dunno how it works though.. maybe when she's unconscious.. it's able to come out or something? *shrugs*
I'm sure we'll find out more about it later on.

nikkib703 - September 28, 2006 10:40 AM (GMT)
Many of your comic book superheroes have alter-egos, or a split personality, if you will. I think maybe the mom-on-the-run has something similar to that, because when she 'awoke' from her experience with the two thugs, she looked as though this was something that may have happened to her before, but she seemed to have no clear recollection of it. The times when she looks in the mirror make me lean toward this theory, also. Still doesn't yet explain exactly what power she might have, but it's something to think about...

yeah I think you are definitely on the right track!

SoulMusicRocks - September 28, 2006 07:23 PM (GMT)
This is an awesome show. I really like everything about it so far....all one episode lol. All of these characters have very distinct personalities and life stories that seem pretty enthralling. I honestly think that all of these people are connected whether they realize it or not. And this is why I'm sure that the reason for them having these powers deals with a pre-destined battle between good and evil.....classic, but still cool. At the end of the show, one of the paintings that guy created showed a city being destroyed by some type of creature. Does anyone remember that? So, I have a feeling that these people are going to need to band together in order to stop whatever evil that will manifest itself as the show progresses. I'm not sure if the cheerleaders father is the evil itself or if he is trying to bring forth whatever these people with the powers will have to inevitably battle at some point in the series. I'm not sure about the one woman from Final Destination's power. Their is something called astral projection where you can project your spirit out of your body and still effect the physical world. When you are going through astral projection, you are not aware of it. (This could be the reason why she can't remember anything). And as far as the younger brother, didn't he have an actual vision of falling from the building and being caught by his older brother? Perhaps that is a foreshadowing of precognition or the ability to see the future. I'm not sure though because that is what ability the painter has, so who knows lol. I like the show.

ECrazy3 - September 29, 2006 12:19 AM (GMT)
I know I really enjoyed this show. I thought most of the characters were enjoyable (except I'm not sure how I feel about Niki, AKA stripper/mom).
Though some of it was a little silly, I thought all together it's a very good series. I do agree that Elliottcat101 that Claire (the cheerleader) is a bit overdramatic, and doesn't realize what good (and how cool) her powers are. Hopefully that will change. I think maybe as she becomes more of a friend to that guy Zach he might make her see the good in it. Maybe.
Even though he doesn't have superpowers, I thought Mohinder (Taxi Driver)'s story was pretty interesting. A little confusing, but interesting.
I also wished we had seen more of Isaac (the painter). I think his character seemed interesting, and his powers seemed the coolest. I've got an interesting little fact about the earlier version of the pilot concerning him. It's just a little gross, so I'm not sure if I should share it here. But if enough people want to know, I'll tell. I don't think it'll have an effect on the show, seeing as they changed it.

EY_Forever - September 29, 2006 01:43 AM (GMT)
Hey! I loved this show. I wasn't expecting much from the 'pilot' but they did a really good job with it. I'm glad they didn't cram every character into the first one. Wow! Some surprises as well, eh? I guess my Mondays are planned. ;)

Amunet - October 3, 2006 02:11 AM (GMT)
Ooooo that was a good episode!!!

I'm so happy the younger brother can fly too!! YAY! I actually wanted to stand up and cheer for him hehe.

Also the story with Hiro... just WOW.
So he accidently teleported himself into the future? Or did he just have a vision? And apparently this big explosion is supposed to happen in 5 weeks??
And then with the cheerleader girl's psycho dad.. and and.. then the introduction of the dumb cop.
I only say dumb b/c well.. he didn't seem too bright. It seemed like a good char though.

And then slutty mom with the bodies....

*nodnodnod* I can't wait til next episode!!!! :rocker:

nikkib703 - October 3, 2006 10:24 AM (GMT)
Love that they're introducing new characters! I don't think the cop is quite as weak as some might think, judging from his interaction with the little girl. I also remember seeing the blonde woman who played his superior officer in the show Carnivale (also one of my favorites taken away much too soon!). I'm also starting to like the Asian character more as well. Looking forward to next Monday night!!

SoulMusicRocks - October 3, 2006 01:11 PM (GMT)
I thought the new character is really cool. Usually with telepathy you have to be close to a person to hear thoughts, though. So it was pretty cool that he could hear her thoughts from far away. Overall, I really love this show. It has such interesting and dynamic characters that all are in different points in their lives yet share the common thing of extraordinary abilities.

What did everyone think of the ending of this episode? It looks like the cheerleaders father (I need to start learning names lol) now knows that she is one of the people with a power. Also, I wonder what the fathers power is? I think it might be related to what Hiro saw happen to the city while in the future after teleporting to NYC. I have a feeling that the cheerleaders father himself is the monster that will do that or he is trying to free it.

Did I mention I love this show? lol.

ECrazy3 - October 3, 2006 03:38 PM (GMT)
I have to say I loved the ending with Hiro. (Spoilers if you missed the last episode, but I think they were all mentioned in above posts.) I'm pretty sure he teleported and saw the explosion which Isaac (artist) had painted. I wonder, though - will this five weeks seriously be five weeks for us? Or will it really be the end of the season?
I like the new character. I thought he seemed nice, and very interesting.
All together I really enjoyed the episode, even better than the first one, but those were the main two things I wanted to talk about.

Amunet - October 3, 2006 09:18 PM (GMT)
I think the crazy psycho dad already knew his daughter had the powers.
Probably adopted her knowing she had the power or had some sort.
OR took her after he killed her original parents b/c one or both of them had powers or was part of some experiment.. or or.. Who knows! heh

I think it's also cool that they're introducing Villains with powers themselves. Like the serial killer guy.. can't remember his name. I think that's pretty cool and was very weird/disturbing how he killed that mother?

You think so? It seemed to me when he was watching the video that that was thr first he knew of his daughter having powers. He seemed dissapointed by the news or something.

BUT why would he have stolen that video in the first place if he hadn't suspected?
I hope they clear it all up later heh

That is true. I can't wait for next weeks episode. I'm sure in the weeks ahead we will finally start to understand how/why all of their destinies are connected.

Amunet - October 5, 2006 05:55 PM (GMT)
I read a good theory on what the younger brother's power might actually be.
Not that he can fly, but that he absorbs other people's powers.

Like when he was close to his brother, he was able to fly.
After being at Isaac's house (the druggy artist guy)..... he drew that stick figure drawing that showed him floating and his brother on the ground.

I think that's a pretty interesting take on what his power might actually be :)

Lene - October 6, 2006 12:50 PM (GMT)
I'm loving this show. I've also heard that NBC decided to pick it up for the rest of the season, which is good! NBC usually just cancels everything it puts on.

Anyways I am agreeing with the theory that Peter is some sort of an empath who can draw from other people's powers when he is in close proximity to him (and maybe a bit farther in regards to their brother since they seem to have a close connection).

WTF is Niki's power. I was over at TWOP and many people couldn't figure it out. I think the consensus is that she has some sort of personality disorder and that when she's Evil!Niki, that's when her power manifests.

Hiro-kun wa totemo totemo kawaii desu yo! Supaa Hiro! ;)

Anyone else think that neighbor chick to Mohinder's father is evil? Cause she's all too convinient to be good.

Not much of a spoiler really, but the father of Niki's kid is the last character that the show has yet to introduce. I wonder what powers he has, and it is interesting because it furhers the whole genetics thing because both parents have powers and their kid seems to have intelligence because of it. Although that doesn't necessarily have to be a power, it can be something else completely.

Hmm...

Love the show!

georgiafan1 - October 6, 2006 01:07 PM (GMT)
I love the show too. The odd thing about the cop was that he seemed to have just noticed that he had the power to read the thoughts of others while he was at the crime scene. He seemed totally surprised by it all, so he did not know how to explain how he heard the little girl, hence, his arrest. I admit that I was one of those people screaming at the TV. Great show.

I think Nikki might have the ability of Astral Projection. It is basically where you go into trance and your spirit is brought forth from your body and can effect the physical world. Another thing it could involve is the psychologically Freudian concept of Id and Superego. The Id is our uncontrolled and impulsive unconscience that if left unchecked by the Superego can go well....crazy. Maybe Nikki's Id is a psychic projection that has its own life. Who knows lol.

I agree about Peter's power being an empath or temporary absorption of another persons powers. I'm sure that within the next few episodes we will know exactly what both Nikki and Peter's powers are.

nikkib703 - October 7, 2006 02:17 PM (GMT)
Last night I was flipping channels and Monday night's episode was on the Sci-Fi channel at 7:00. Sci-Fi is owned by NBC, so they will probably be showing all of the episodes on that channel as well. Nice to know if you miss it on Monday nights.

And I can't wait to see what happens with the adorable Hiro and what he does about the explosion now that he knows.

Also, I'm curious about the new character's (the cop's) powers and if they will bring in any other new characters.

Well when my brother saw a 70 minute version of the Pilot back in July, he said there were two characters in it that didn't make the actual Pilot episode. One was the cop, which they've now shown, and I can't remember who the other one was... But he did say there was another one!

I completely agree with what you've said about both Mohinder's friend and about Peter's powers (man! It would be so awesome if it turned out he just absorbed other's powers!)

Concerning other characters, I have heard of a couple of other characters that had powers. One, I know very little about him, and I'm not sure if he was just a rumor or what, and the other I know a little more about. If you don't want to know about these people (who will probably just be seen tonight) don't read the next paragraph!
The first man, who may never appear, is a man who emits radiation from his hands. I believe he can't control it, he just always emits radiation, but I'm not sure... The second man is named DL Hawkins, and he can walk through walls. He also is a prison inmate, and I'm pretty sure he's Micah's (Niki's son) father.

Amunet - October 10, 2006 03:38 AM (GMT)
Oh that would be pretty cool if Micah's father also had a power.

Anywho! Hiro is getting cooler and cooler each episode! He's just so lively and full of nerd energy! You just gotta love him!

What about that ending though! EEESH. I probably would've freaked out more than that if I had woken up at my own autopsy :P hehe
That was pretty cool though. Wonder how she's gonna explain that one!

And who the heck was that black guy at the bar staring the cop down?? Apparently he knew what the cop's power was b/c it seemed like he was blocking him from reading his thoughts!
Or maybe it was whatever drug they slipped him taking affect. Who knows!

And and then Sylar(sp?) almost making the bitchy woman cop shoot herself
I guess he is all of the heroes rapped up into one big pile of psycho killer goodness! I wouldn't doubt if HE was the cheerleader's actual father!

I thought the whole Niki story this episode was pretty weak though. She goes over to her mother in laws house... then tells HER to leave her son alone? WTH?
They need to make that char just more likeable or something b/c so far every time she's opened her mouth she comes off as a total moron.

I'm gonna have to watch it again when they put it online!! hehe

CathleenSusan - October 10, 2006 06:19 PM (GMT)
Has anyone picked up on the 1/2 DNA strang symbol that is hidden (in plain view) throughout the episodes? I haven't watched Lost, but I hear that Heroes is using similar tricks and hints too.

Here's a link to some screen caps of the symbol popping up all over the place:

http://moonoversun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=77

SoulMusicRocks - October 10, 2006 06:42 PM (GMT)
Every episode of this show just gets better and better. They are allowing the characters to develop more complex relationships (Simonne and Peter). I agree with Amunet about Nikki's story. We probably will learn more about what is going on in the next episode with her story. Besides, Hiro and his friend will probably see her because they are traveling to Las Vegas.

Amunet - October 11, 2006 07:40 AM (GMT)
Wow.. I never noticed that that symbol is in the show THAT much. I noticed that black guy's necklace but just didn't think of what it actually was.. ya know?
That's pretty cool though.
Hey.. if they wanna be like Lost.. bring it on! Lost is popular for a reason and if they implemented the same sorta stuff in their show.. it could be huge as well :)
People love looking for clues.

her character is so sickeningly sweet and wide eyed that she better have a hidden agenda!

DawnlikesElliott - October 11, 2006 11:54 PM (GMT)
I love shows that keep you thinking and wondering. On the topic of this show being a lot like Lost I agree. Not only does it do a good job of showing each characters life like Lost, it has characters similar to Lost. Example; Kate from Lost is like the girl with the kid dark past that not everyone knows about. They also both have the middle eastern guy. Both have foreign guys who need translation. Both have blonde girls who have geeks/outcasts in love with them. That's about all I've got for comparing.
Regardless, I love Heroes and can't wait till next week.

Amunet - October 12, 2006 08:13 AM (GMT)

I heard that they cut out a scene involving Micah's grandmother calling social services on Niki. If that is the case then that scene makes a lot of sense...wonder why they cut it

With the cheerleader paying back that A-hole. And Niki changing to her "dark" self and whoopin some butt and "hookin" it up with the politician brother.

I thought maybe the black fellow was the father of Micah, but after tonight's episode I'm sort of steering away from that theory. I didn't think to look for the DNA symbol either until the end of the show, and I'm also thinking that maybe Issac might have a sort of split personality somewhat similar to Niki's, only not a violent one, judging from his trance-like state when he paints. Still not sure who Sylar could be....Clare's father is just too obvious for that one. Hiro rocks, BTW!!!

Yeah I don't think Clarie's dad is Sylar.
Too obvious plus... if he was Syler, why would he need the black guy to block his thoughts? He's be able to do it himself since he was ya know.. Sylar :P heh
