Title: I'm Entering A Competition To Sing W/J Timberlake

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I signed online today to find the most amazing contest opportunity. The winner of a vocal competition will get to sing on stage with Justin Timberlake at the Grammys!!! There is a good chance I'd probably die of nerves, but the top 12 alone get flown out to L.A. to meet him. That in and of itself would be an absolute dream come true for me. Say what you will, but in a world before Elliott NSync was a BIG deal for me. They were a huge positive experience on my high school life and their concerts were some of my happiest memories. Now, here is a chance for a no name like myself to share the stage with him.

With my luck I'd make the top 12 go to LA and freeze up like a clam

I need a bit of advice...if y'all remember my voice (I placed 2nd in ETrain Idol with "Misery") do you think I'd be better suited for "Come to my Window" by Melissa Etheridge or "If I Aint Got You" by Alicia Keys?

Ashley, I would love to hear how you sound on both. You have a beautiful voice, and this is way cool!

What do you think you would be more comfortable singing?

Ashley - I'm going to suggest the Alicia Keys song for you - Good Luck!!!!!

I JUST find out about the contest today, and though I've already started practicing both, I don't have a clip of me singing either. I haven't sang since the ETrain Idol competition, so singing all morning out of pure excitement has left me a bit raspy

I think I'm leaning towards Alicia Keys because though both songs are soulful, Alicia's is soulful in a more R&B way, as opposed to the rocker edge to "Come to my Window." BUT, the chorus of "If I Aint Got You" is pretty rough for me... it's just outside of my comfortable range. The Melissa song is fine, except for one note. (The "dow" part in window to be precise. haha) So I don't know if I should alter Alicia, or stick with Melissa and have to push through one trouble note. That in and of itself may be the reason I won't end up being a finalist at all...because my range is pretty limited. I'm about as Alto as it gets. But then again they seem to be providing choices that will allow for different types of voices, so I guess we'll see.

I'll post a clip as soon as I am able. The excitement alone prevented me from taking a normal nap today lol. Lying there and thinking about just the chance to meet him made my stomach do flips. The top 12 are chosen by a panel and Justin, and the next eliminations are made by the public through Yahoo music. The final three are announced at the Super Bowl, and they all get to go to the Grammys. All 3 rehearse with Justin, and then DURING THE SHOW the winner is announced. How nerve wracking would that be? I'm just a little nervous to think of a national competition, and people voting for me, and judging me on things beyond my voice (ie: my looks) that it's already making me nervous. Talk about premature though,, making top 12 is probably going to be a very slim chance out of the thousands of entries.

Way to go Ash!! GOOD LUCK!!

I think you know your voice, sing what you feel will showcase it! Alicia may be a lil outta your range, BUT, it could also show originality to change up the song to suit your voice! You have a beautfiul voice, have faith in it! :glomp:

Ash, that is awesome. I think either song would be wonderful. Good luck!
