Has anyone seen Dreamgirls? I saw it today, and that movie is AMAZING! Jennifer does an outstanding job!

I saw it today too and lemme tell you that when Jen sang "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" tears welled up in my eyes. It was literally THAT GREAT. She better get that Supporting Actress Oscar or at least Best Original Song.

This is OT but I was thinking about Elliott after the movie and how much the Dreamgirls situation reminds me of AI Season 5. Elliott is not unlike Effie in that he has such a beautiful and unique voice with so much soul, passion and musical personality but since neither of them are considered "conventionally beautiful" or "mainstream" they are pushed aside in favor of somebody who is beautiful but less talented and more "appealing" aka Katharine McPhee. Perhaps it's my bitterness talking but that is totally the way I see it.

BTW anybody think that Jen could be the next Aretha? Seriously, her voice reminds me so much of hers, even though it's unique!

I loved the play. I loved the movie.

I had never paid any attention to an AI programme until 2006 (Elliott hooked me in). Therefore I had no idea who Jennifer Hudson was before going to see Dreamgirls yesterday.

She proves it, AI can offer exposure to the industry but talent and commitment to your craft will get you on the road to a successful career and respect within the artistic community.

Jennifer Hudson was Wow in every sense!!!

Jennifer was fantastic in Dreamgirls, tears welled up in me when she sang her big song, she so made me believe her pain and her emotions. I just kept thinking of Elliott and how much I want him to have his big moment, when that cd hits and I will be cheering him and crying as well. Jennifer is a beautiful talented girl, and when she wins that oscar, I will cry again, for all those talented people. who don't always "fit the mold", but through their talent, always shine

:goodpost: I totally agree with everything you said. I haven't seen it yet, but I will SOON, and I can't wait. Some of the most beautiful people that I've ever known don't "fit the mold" and thank goodness! :glomp:

Jennifer Hudson stole the show! :woohoo:

I went to see Dreamgirls on Jan. 1st with my sister. Jennifer was unbelievable! When she finished singing "And I Am Telling You..." everyone in the theater started clapping! I've never heard of that happening before. AND after the movie ended and the credits started they were showing the names and faces off the main stars (Beyonce, Jamie, Eddie) then it came to the part "And Introducing Jennifer Hudson"....again she got applause from people who were still in the theater. I thought that was the coolest thing ever!!! She deserves nominations and wins for BEST ACTRESS (that supporting actress stuff is a bunch of crap!) JMO

You're right that the Best Supporting Actress is nonsense! Jennifer WAS the show! :woohoo: :rocker:

I've seen it twice already and I agree that Jennifer gave an incredible performance. Her voice is amazing, that much I knew. Yet I still wasn't prepared for that big song. Awesome. And her acting was spot on. She was strong and feisty yet vulnerable and even fragile. I hope she wins the Oscar. She deserves it.

Eddie deserves props as well. I think his Supporting Actor nominations are well deserved.

In the Broadway show, Effie is the main character, not a supporting character, they only did that because of Beyonce.

Sorry Beyonce, but you got OWNED GIRL!

Argh, was Jennifer Hudson really on Letterman last night? Did she sing anything, or did she just talk about Dreamgirls? Anyway, she DEFINITELY deserves the Oscar! :rocker:

She did both. She sang I Am Changing and she sang her face off. (tm Randy Jackson) It was an awesome performance. The audience applauded her at least three times during the performance. You probably can find it on youtube.com.
