Love it! Especially the black & white version of that pic. Thanks for the heads up B.

Love it ...love it..... :etrain: :etrain:
KittyloverforElliott - January 22, 2007 08:11 AM (GMT)
I love the pic of Elliott but I cannot read the writing very well. It does not work for me.
sherwood - January 22, 2007 08:49 AM (GMT)
Well, that pic's definitely an all-time favourite...the sepia is nicer than straight BW...turn it into a watermark so the text is easier to read and change the colours of the fonts.
courtie59 - January 22, 2007 08:52 AM (GMT)
That pic is dangerous!! :thud: whether in sepia or in B/W.
I could barely read the text because I couldn't drag my eyes away from the pic...
:justkidding:
(I didn't have a problem with the text)
lindagt - January 22, 2007 10:19 AM (GMT)
Yeah that's good looking! I didn't have a problem with the text - I just pulled it up to the dark part and it was easy to read. Also glad Moody's Mood is in the default for a while - that's the song I pulled onto my myspace.
harleywoman - January 22, 2007 10:28 AM (GMT)
Thanks B. Looks good to me.

that's great, love that photo.
Thanks Brandon.

Great background. The text color needs to be changed; grey on grey is a negative. Experiment with reds and purples, and -dare I say -yellows (a light butter cream), for the text. We're currently redesigning the layout of our website at work and you'd be amazed at what colors work and don't.
GypsyNFla - January 22, 2007 12:37 PM (GMT)
I agree about the text Ohioguy. I'm with KittyloverforElliott; kind of hard to read (for me anyway). It's like trying to see through fog; that's the best way I can explain it.
Sorry to be critical! lol
May10787 - January 22, 2007 12:44 PM (GMT)
Love you Elliott
But please don’t give up your singing career for graphic design.
???????
PDXJon - January 22, 2007 12:51 PM (GMT)
Hehe. I thought this was announcing that Elliott changed his look again. :)
Soccerma - January 22, 2007 12:52 PM (GMT)
I love that pic of E. But it's hard to read the text.

I have to agree. I would like to see the text and all of the wonderful pictures in a
clear view. Great progress. Thanks!

Looks much better! The pic in the background is great, I think it's great that he's promoting himself by putting up his very first single (Moody's) on his website.

Hi Brandon, thank you for the info - okay, I always love Elliott's MySpace page - am I a fangirly? - I paused from my work to hear all of Moody's - love it.

Thanks for the heads up B! :rocker: (though I miss the flaming rawker hand....*sniff*). As for E's page, AWESOME! Amazing how a compromise was made concerning the silliest complaint I have heard...his profile pic. Good grief. Anyhoo, the new layout makes the complainants happy & still allows Elliott to, ohhhhhhh, I dunno, put up whatever pic HE WANTS to display. :ilikeit:

No kidden choe? The text is a grey-ish on my puter, the layout background is black, so it shows up great for me. Hmmmmmm, maybe it has been changed again since I looked...I am gonna go look again! :glomp:
OK, I am there now. Still the same on my puter. I scroll up the comments I wanna read right above his head & into his hair, text shows up clear as day there. KNEW he was growing his hair out for a reason! :rotfl:

If you want eye candy, try putting up the pick on your desktop. I did it at work and it's the first thing I see on my computer in the morning.

I would love to do this but I don't know how. Semi-illiterate on the computer. I can't put it on the computer here at home because my significant other might not appreciate it. He tolerates my obsession over E to a point, but that would be taking it over the top I think. Especially since it is his computer. But....I could put it on my computer at work, if I could figure out how.
Can someone tell me how to do it?
parsimmon - January 22, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
I have this problem often on many sites. What I do is right click as if I was going to cut and paste. Then I click on select all. It makes the background blue and the text white. Then I read the text. Then I left click again to go back to normal background.

Planegirl,
Just right click on the picture and then select set as background.

Ohioguy: Your suggestion about experimenting with colour is an excellent idea and got me really excited. It’s not my intention to present a lecture but I always hoped my four years of art courses would come to some use. Parts of my studies were in page layout in print publications, never web design, but I suspect some of the principles are the same. So here are some of the things I remember:
It is important to design the page to meet the demographics of your audience (your market). You want your reader to focus on interaction between components on the page (or in this case screen). You do not what to create distractions between the various components on the page.
Colour, like music, can invoke extremely powerful messages and emotions. The choice of colours may fail to make a positive connection with your demographic. You want to use background hues that do not fight for the reader’s attention and distract from your message. For example light blue, light yellow and soft grey make a good back drop for the human eye. Most people are comfortable with them and consider them pleasing because they are accustomed to seeing them every day as a backdrop in nature.
When choosing a complimentary colour for the font and other components on the page decide the emotion you want to invoke in your reader. That depends of course on your product and demographic. Do you want to grab and electrify them, or to romantically draw them in, or simply relate information, etc?
Some other statistic’s, suggestions I remember are: Women see colour better then men. Women are drawn to softer, warmer colours. Men prefer darker colours. European men more readily accept vibrant colours i.e. purple then do American men (but if I remember their was also an age component in that). Colour blindness is 16% more relevant in men then in women. There are different types of colour blindness. The human eye does not easily transfer the message to the human brain if THE MESSAGE IS ALL IN UPPER CASE. These were two quotes from a designer I worked with: Two font types on a page is enough, if you push it past three you have created a breakfast fit only for my dog, and you are fired. If you put anything in bold and italic you better have a really (&#$)#& good reason.
Emotions in the colour wheel: Red; Strong attention-grabbing colour charged with emotion i.e. passion, war, love. Violet; If light tinted it is aromatic and spiritual, deeper tints of Violet are luxurious. Blue; Full of depth, constant yet dynamic, cool dependable, sophisticated. Green: Fresh and relaxing. Earth green is very balanced and calming. Yellow: Welcoming and full of life, energy and warmth. Orange: The warmest of all colours; strong, vital, can be healing and playful.
